Stereotypes

How much do you believe in stereotypes? This site makes you think about your preconceptions by mixing photos of people together.

(sorry if this is a repeat)

The Desk — LEGO

First lego link for a while – this time a lesson in making sure you read the smallprint in contracts before you sign them otherwise you could end up paying for a very expensive desk for your employees.

For the first time in 17years, Monkey will be screened on UK terrestrial television. That’s gotta be a good thing.

Printed organs

Last week, news reports started surfacing about research that has been done into ‘printing’ live organs using inkjet printers. Kind of scary but fascinating. Imagine being able to make a liver or kidney using a modifed printer.

Terry Tate – Office Linebacker

Over the pond, they’ve just had the Superbowl. The highlight of this every year seems not to be the game but the adverts inbetween it – one particularly funny one this year was the Reebok one. Made me laugh anyway.

The State of the Union Address Drinking Game

Tomorrow/Today (depending on your timezone) is Dubya’s State of the Union address, so why not get some beer in and play the State of the Union Address Drinking Game & if he says, “I admit it – I wasn’t democratically voted into this country and am not the rightful leader of my people, I am, in fact, nothing more than a dictator who bought my presidency with lies & money” – then I’ll buy every single one of you a drink. Fair?

Cool Sculptings

Remember the film Cool Runnings? In an amusing ‘Truth is stranger than fiction’ twist, a team of people from Kenya want to enter a snow sculpting competition in Quebec despite only one of the team having actually seen snow before.

(nb: yes, I do know Cool Runnings was based on a true story but it sounded better this way)

BAE taking the p1ss

After BAE recently announced they were getting rid of 1000 jobs in the UK, you’d have thought that they wouldn’t need to advertise for someone to take the p1ss.

Wanna play WarGames?

You must all remember the classic movie ‘War Games’. At the time it seemed really cool & hi-tech but now seems a very unlikely simplified version of hacking. Well, actually not! It seems that according to this report, anyone can hack into the american dept. of defense network – you can register your own .mil domain (www.grom.mil?) or merely get admin privileges on an other network.

Of course I will warn you that it’s generally a bad idea to attempt to launch nuclear missiles without permission first. I’m sure George wouldn’t mind ;o)

Redneck Limo

So, you’ve made a fortune selling beaver & possum skins to rich people who think it’s mink. You want to marry your 14 year old cousin but need something really impressive to get her to the wedding in – then why not buy a redneck limo? You just can’t fail in a sensible car like that!

Govn’t expected to back down on id cards

Looks like I might get my birthday early this year – The Register have said that there should be an announcement tonight about the UK government backing down on identity cards following the Stand.org.uk & Privacy International aware-raising campaigns that I posted about last week.

A personal thank you to anyone who did send a letter to the House of Commons about this issue.

JBoom’s a B3ta regular – he’s developed a customisable Rizla Machine for designing your own rizla packets. Bit too much effort to actually print out and use but full marks for a creative idea.

That Darned Cad!

I’m off to the Jongleurs comedy club in Leeds tonight and one of the guys who’s playing is a guy called Jamie Mathieson who has also started to do some little flash animations.

This one, entitled That Darned Cad! is pretty darn good but you’ll need headphones for it.

Ok, this is gonna take some beating in the geek stakes – Var’aq is a programming language written in Klingon.

Yup, this is what happens when Poindexters combine their only two hobbies.

Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad. (but funny)

If it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be married to the missus so she has a lot to answer for!

365 Days Project

I know that I’ve blogged this site before (in fact it was only a couple of weeks ago) but this is a reminder that the 365 Days Project run on otisfodder.com has a new mp3 posted everyday for download. There has been some amazingly weird music so far (& from me, that’s very weird indeed) – today’s is for a song described as like the “b4stard son of the Pearl & Dean theme song” done by the Utica Club Natural Carbonation Band.

Bookmark this site – you’ll thank me.

If you want some style tips from those originators of funky fashion – the Swedes then here’s a page with some brilliant photos of Swedish pop bands in loon pants & moustaches.

Is that really a young Rolf Harris in a band with Gaz from Supergrass?

Cool T-shirts

In my never ending quest to fill my wardrobe with hundreds of t-shirts but only one pair of trousers, one pair of socks & some pants my mum bought me, I found EGG74 mentioned on a Popbitch newsletter. They do some excellent tees but I’m torn between a Ming the Merciless one, an Oddjob one or the Sackrace one.

Subscriptions are finally here!!

Some of the more observant of you may have noticed a “subscribe” box in the right-hand sidebar. I’ve only had a couple of days testing but so far it looks good. This is the deal;

1. Find the Subscribe box in the right hand bar.

2. Stick in your email address

3. Hit enter.

4. That’s it.

5. No, really, it is that easy!

You’ll then get a daily email with all that day’s posts from the gromblog. It’ll save you having to visit the site everyday (but please do anyway). Currently you can only get daily mails (no weekly ones available so be warned – you will get about 300 odd mails a year from me!)

Please give me feedback on this & let me know if it works for you. (P.S. you will need to be able to receive html emails – otherwise what’s the point?)

Oh yeah, please tell your friends to sign up as well. Ta.

Chick Rock

Following my earlier Iron Maidens link, extensive research has enabled me to bring you

Cheap Chick – The World’s only ALL GIRL Cheap Trick tribute band! (hardly surprising)

Whole Lotta Rosies – an all-girl AC/DC tribute band

& finally, Exit – a female U2 tribute band.

Anyone got any more?
