Banish these people from the gene pool

This week has been a bumper week for what the Japanese call ‘cosplay‘ (dressing up as characters from mange, anime, cartoons or films – sometimes for sexual kicks) – first there was this infamous Tron costume which just reminds me of Milton Waddams from the classic film Office Space (go rent it if you haven’t already). Next up is this couple wearing cornish pasties on their foreheads – oh sorry, it’s a Klingon Wedding – my mistake.

StationRipper – the streaming ripper

I’ve used some fairly poor quality software in the past for trying to rip streams from the internet but I’ve just found out about StationRipper via /.. As long as the original stream is good quality and you’re on broadband then it’s a good piece of software to run. Although it looks limited to Shoutcast streams, it’s not – you can entry any url and it’ll capture it.

Back to the Future car on eBay

There’s a full recreation of the DeLorean Gullwing that featured in Back to the Future on sale on eBay at the moment. I’ve seen a few other half-hearted versions but this baby is as close as I’ve seen – it also has one improvement over the cars used in the movie – this one is roadworthy (time-travel not guaranteed).

Mike West & The Man from Delmonte

Please excuse the personal post for once but I’ve just received copies of cult 80′s indie stars The Man from Delmonte‘s cds that were reissued by Vinyl Japan. Although I hadn’t forgotten quite how good they were, it still brought back an awful lot of memories so I went to track down Mike as I lost contact with him after he left Manchester in the early 90′s to move to the USA. It turns out he’s now in New Orleans and doesn’t seem to have changed – he’s still got the magical touch with his evocative lyrics and has released 9 solo albums, is still playing a ridiculous amount of gigs (average is 300 per year), has defined his own musical genre (levee-billy) and is much in demand as a producer. I wish him all the best.

Look-a-not-likes

Another regular feature of pri.me.uk is our addiction to lame Lookalikes. Here’s another collection for you all to laugh at. The popstars page alone has enough dodgy looking people to fill the whole of next months Chav of the Month!

Two of these images are not like the others (pt. too many to mention)

Yet another in our ongoing series of spot the odd-one-out on the Google results page – this time it’s another image search for ‘giant cow’. As per usual, the odd ones out are NSFW and aren’t that hard to find.

Carpal Tunnel Onset Accelerator

If you use a computer all day then you should be aware of the condition known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, caused by repetitive actions. If you haven’t got the syndrome and feel left out then why not try the Carpal Tunnel Onset Accelerator – it really works!

Arty stuff

This has probably been blogged before but not in my tenure so I’m going to do it now. Lovely art site, Potatoland has this great website visual shredding facility. If you’re not doing much at lunchtime try these.

Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy movie – first details

Here’s a rather long interview with the producers of the forthcoming Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy movie. It goes a long way to restoring my faith in it being a decent movie and not the usual Hollywood foobar as they even went as far as only allowing Douglas Adams’ biographer and the editor of h2g2 to be the interviewers. I was rather astonished to hear that rapper Mos Def is to star as Ford Prefect but he is an intelligent bloke with a wicked sense of humour so it might just work – I’m especially looking forward to Warwick Davis as Marvin – the test images look like nothing I’d expected but from what I’ve seen and heard, it’ll work very well.

Banana Guard – protect your bananas

The Banana Guard is a fantastically pointless gadget. It’s a curved box for storing individual bananas in – I wonder if they’ve taken into account the EU regulation that governs the size of bananas (it states that bananas must be “free of abnormal curvature” and should be at least 5.5 inches long!).

Another one in our ongoing series of bizarre search results – this time it’s a google image search for tintin. The expected results contain two unusual results (both NSFW) and you’ll probably need to make sure safesearch if off to see what we’re talking about.

Welcome Jude Roman Fairbanks

OK. When the delightful Gromsprog was about to enter this world I recall Grom getting all gooey and posting the odd baby-based link. Well now it’s my turn. This is what happens when a photographer and a web designer have a child. I’m afraid it is all rather soppy and lovely and it’s probably not worth checking out if you’re not, shall we say, “baby-oriented”… but I must confess to having experienced a little moistening around the ocular organ when I watched this lovely flash animation. Welcome Jude Fairbanks! *sniff*

How to get out of a Speeding Ticket in style

Justin Lee from Auckland, New Zealand has style – lots of it. He exhibited the largest cojones I’ve ever seen when he managed to wriggle out of this speeding ticket. I’ve done some checking and it all seems genuine so top marks to Justin for either mastering the art of time travel , learning to drive when he was less than an hour old or just blagging his way out of this ticket.

Anyone want an old Amiga, Atari, spectrum,C64…

There’s a fantastic opportunity for old-skool nerds on eBay at the moment – it’s a huge collection of vintage computers and consoles. The photos make it look like my old bedroom before my wife ‘had a tidy-up’ (her words, not mine!). It really is a geek’s wet dream and although the price doesn’t seem cheap – for what you get, it’s phenomenal value for money but you’ll need a big truck to cart the lot away with you.

Full fps game code is under 96Kb

Small is indeed beautiful (according to my wife) and this is proved by .the .produkkt who have just released a beta of a full fps game called .kkrieger – the most amazing thing is that the file size for the code is only a mere 96Kb which would fit inside the readme file for Unreal!

(I’ve just tried to run it on my work pc and it crashed before it could run but I’ll try it again later at home.)

Underoos – pants for kids

Underoos are back apparently – retroCRUSH report seeing them in the shops once more. These fine garments consist of a vest/t-shirt and pant* combination with designs on them to look like a superhero, tv character or even the morally dubious Daisy Duke. If anyone knows where to buy these please let me know – I’m intrigued to see what the new designs they’ve decided to inflict on children are.

*pant is used here in the UK sense of the word ie: to indicate an item of undergarmentage and not the US derivation meaning an outergarment (or trousers to everyone else).

Certified (and certifiable) genius Rob from the best use of the internet ever – Cockeyed.com has calculated that there are 600,426,974,379,824,381,952 ways to spell Viagra – that’s somewhat appropriately over a sextillion (although I doubt such a word exists).
