Watching Paint Dry

Sod Big Brother – Watching Paint Dry is the new reality show. The first

reality show to do exactly what it says on the tin.

Thanks to Carl for all 3 of the previous links

The Agonizer

The AGONIZER bears cartoons of naked women torturing animals, and has useful

controls such as POUND, STRANGLE and GRIND. Ohh yes please. As guitar effects pedals go, it’s a nice colour at least.

Battle-Ship Island

‘Gunkanjima’ or BattleShip Island was once the world’s most densely populated island until the coal ran out. Photographer Saiga Yuji visited the island in 1974 just as it was being abandoned. Recently he gun-revisited the forgotten ghost-island and took more eerie photos.

Pavement art

Usually the pavement art you see is dire to be flattering. What a refreshing change to see these wonderful creations. I wonder what they look like from a different angle though…

South Devon Chilli Farm – Chillies and sales of Fresh Chillies in the UK

Being (a) a person who likes to change career every decade or so, (b) currently a codemonkey and (c) keen on the chili and the chili plant, I can’t help but be slightly jealous of these chaps! Their tale is nicely outlined on “the beeb”.co.uk. I used to think that my next career choice would be a pirate… or an astronaut… But now.. hmmmm. I wish you the best of luck in your venture, Steve and Jason.

German Pop Idols are ‘Simply the Best’

This is so atrocious that I had to share it with everyone. Apparently this video shows the latest bunch of hopefuls from Germany’s version of Pop Idol singing during the pre-match warm-up of a soccer match. Dire is not a strong enough word but it is damn funny.

Chav Top Trumps

Top Trumps – a giant amongst card games and the only type of ‘trading’ card game that a grown adult should play. A new cut-out-and-keep version has just come to my attention, this time featuring that modern UK phenomenon, the Chav. So print out your own set of Chav Top Trumps, grab a pair of scissors and get playing.

Cookie Mongoloid

Cookie Mongoloid is Sesame Speed Metal! See the Cookie Mongoloid in all his blue, furry, googly-eyed glory backed by the baddest of gender mixed metal bands as they decimate and regurgitate your childhood favorites in an abrasive metal wrath. See their harem of gothic gyrators, the Cookies, demonstrate such elemental concepts as up and down in a blaze of lights, smoke and pyrotechnic cookie shrapnel.

Half Life 2 Case Mod

Even though Half Life 2 isn’t officially out yet (but the leaked beta from last week is v.good), some people are sure it’ll be one of the best games ever. This case mod gives you an idea how dedicated some of the fans are – it’s an amazing piece of work – the level of detail down to the ‘radioactive’ water in the cooling system, and the fact that the keyboard and mouse match is what makes this one of the best case mods I’ve seen.

gromBlog

With any luck, I’ll be moving the site to a new webspace today in preparation for a redesign. Hopefully you won’t notice any difference but please make sure that you refresh (hold CTRL & press F5 on pcs) regularly or you might find yourself staring at the old page for a few days whilst the DNS changes occur. Please also let me know if you spot any errors in things like the comments, RSS feed, archives or even if you just can’t see the site – if you don’t tell us then we won’t know so all feedback is appreciated.

Robochrist

Went out last night to a club in Leeds for an old friend’s wedding bash (congrats Youngy!) and saw RoboChrist. This guy was superb – a one man industrial cheese-monger. He stood on stage alone except for a guitar, his backing tape and a face full of paint and blew everyone there away with his thrashy noise interspersed with a genius use of samples – Ministry never sounded this good (but then they didn’t have Johnny Vegas, Grange Hill and Count Duckula samples!). If you get the opportunity to see him then I guarantee that you won’t fail to be entertained by him. Definitely a star in the making.

Diamond forever lost for F1 team

This weekend the world of Formula 1 went to Monaco – the single most flamboyant and extravagant race of the season. The Jaguar team struck a sponsorship deal with Steinmetz (classy diamond dealers) and embedded £0.14m diamond in the nose cone of their cars… This is what happened… (btw, congratulations for Jarno Trulli for his first win of his career and for kicking Schumachers butt)

Eric Idle’s FCC Song

Eric Idle doesn’t like the FCC – so much so that if this song is played on tv or the radio then it could cost him a cool quarter of a million dollars! This is because the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) are the people who fine you for swearing on the air in the States. The FCC amusingly describe themselves as ‘an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress’ although quite how they can be independent when they are appointed by the government and report directly to the government is a mystery known only to themselves).

Futurama Panoramas

Futurama is quite well known for it’s animation techniques and when the cartoon was originally aired, it was the first fully 3d rendered tv cartoon. This meant that there were some impressive techniques used such as long tracking or scanning shots. Punkasspunk website have taken a load of framegrabs and stitched them together into some cool panoramas perfect for multi-monitor desktop piccies.

£200,000 diamond lost in Formula One Grand Prix

Yesterday’s Monaco F1 Grand Prix was a fantastic race for many, many reasons (mostly involving the fact the Schumacher didn’t win!). One news story that didn’t appear until after the race was that the diamonds in the front of the Jaguar cars that were implanted to advertise the new Ocean’s Twelve movie were actually real diamonds worth about £200k each. Apparently, after Christian Klein crashed early in the race – the diamond on his car went missing. Perhaps the plot for Ocean’s 13 might have just written itself.

Inuyasha Demon

I’m not a fan of any of the whole trading card thing – like Dungeons and Dragons before it, it seemed like too much of like hard work doing maths to try to win a game that only exists in your head and that you seem to have to make up as you go along (sorry if I’m offending any nerds here). I did, however, manage to waste about half an hour tomight playing Inuyasha Demon which I assume is based on a cartoon of a trading card of a game of an animated manga film of a comic book or something.

If you’ve ever wanted to play at being Robin Hood then you’re a few hundred years too late. If you’ve got a very active imagination then you might possibly be able to pretend by playing Bowman the online archery game. It’s better than the graphics would suggest.

I don’t want to translate this page as I think it would spoil the effect. Suffice to say that you should not follow these instructions on how to increase your computer memory yourself as the interface is quite experimental.

Mills Darden must surely hold the record for the worlds most awesome man! He was 7 and a half feet tall, weighed over 70 stone and (not mentioned in this article) it was said that in still air and on flat ground he could be heard shouting from 11 miles away!!!

Top 100 scary moments from the movies

Retrocrush have put together their Top 100 Scary Movie Moments – the sort that make you cringe when you remember them or hide behind the sofa. They’ve done pretty well in their picks – many aren’t obvious. I especially liked the exploding head animated gif from Scanners.

The Infinite Cat Project

It started on a forum with a photo of a cat. Then someone posted a picture of his cat staring at the photo of the first cat on a monitor. Then there was a photo of another cat looking at the second cat looking at the first cat. Repeat this a few more times and the Infinite Cat Project was born – it’s currently up to iteration 125 – that’s a lot of pussy!
