I don’t know anything about this site except that there are a lot of interesting flash experiments on it. Have a nosy around.

gmail swap

Apparently, yesterday’s gmail post was incorrect – the mailbox isn’t 1TB – it was just a temporary bug. It hasn’t stopped the popularity increasing though – sites such as gmail swap are starting to pop up.

As a side note, I made the mistake of not hiding my account name to some guys at work and seem to have been signed up to a number of rather disturbing newsletters and websites including one for Horse Lovers, several swinging, dating and dogging groups and the weirdest one – a Judith Chalmers fan club who promise me naked photos of the aging Holiday tv show presenter. Which was odd.

Darius Donger

If you don’t subscribe to Popbitch you may well have missed this image of Darius inadvertently exposing himself on stage to a small child! Needless to say it’s somewhat NSFW. [In addition, seeing as we've been talking about penguins and collective nouns recently, Popbitch also claims that after years of deliberation, a group of penguins in water is a 'raft' and a group of penguins on land is a 'waddle'! Awww bless]

Mirror.co.uk – GOING FOR A THONG

Remember the guy who was selling his wifes undercrackers on eBay the other day? Well he’s hit the headlines! Here’s the full story. [edit point] I’ve just noticed that the page he put up has now been removed for legal reasons’… curioser and curioser!

Gmail – Google mail increased to 1 Terabyte!!

Wow! I was given the chance of testing the new Google mail service, Gmail recently and was impressed with their claim to give you 1GB of storage but since Lycos and Yahoo have announced similar offers, it seems Google have increased this amount to a ridiculous 1TB – yep, a whole Terabyte. Since this is supposed to be funded by content specific adverts, I wonder what adverts will get served to me based on 1TB of pr0nographic spam?

Ja Da

This is a lovely animation of a rabbit, someone who looks like a young Maggy Thatcher, some nekkid fat lady and a guest appearance by Bez of the Crappy Bumdays.. sorry – Happy Mondays. Great! But it’s in Swedish… or something… shame… still funny though!

CBBC Child-friendly Search

Although it’s not our normal type of thing, I’m more than happy to give publicity to the new CBBC Search engine from the BBC. It’s a child-friendly search engine dedicated to sites suitable for 6-12 yr olds and all sites are vetted by the BBC. It’s a good thing.

Josh Nimoy was one of the artists who created the infamous What is Victoria’s Secret website. His personal site also contains many good experiments (scroll down for the list) – I particularly like the BallDroppings musical toy.

Joey Deacon

Whilst we’re being politically incorrect… If you are not English and not between 25 and 35 then you won’t remember Joey Deacon. This here site may explain a little about what we 25-35 year old Brits find so funny about this chap. In a nutshell, a kids programme ‘Blue Peter’ introduced Joey to the public in an attempt to strum their heart strings and suggest to children that disabilities were unfortunate yet natural happenings and there was nothing funny about them what-so-ever! One thing Blue Peter forgot to take into acount was… Kids are cruel!! Even now, a whole generation of Brits cannot help but giggle (in a slightly embarrassed way) when someone sticks a tongue into their lower lip and goes ‘joey!’ The following gallery may go someway to illustrating just how funny people still think it is.

Downing Street Fighter game

It’s a fairly poor Street Fighter clone but Downing Street Fighter makes up for itby giving you the oppotunity to beat the daylights out of UK politicians such as Blair, Prescott, Hague, Smith, Kennedy, Brown, Clarke, Portillo and Cook but why oh why is there not Blunkett – now that, I’d pay money for.

Fancy a Petabyte of storage?

If you’ve ever run out of space on your hard drives then you’ll appreciate the Petabox – that’s one petabyte of storage in a rack – for the less geeky of you , that’s a million gigabytes (most home pcs have about 60-100 Gigabytes). The funniest thing about it is that it boots from a USB keyring! As a side note – this is storage unti was built especially for the Wayback Machine – go and have a cringe at how bad your favourite websites used to look – caution though – you could get seriously addicted.

“Official” Nitendo pics

Nintendo have released picture and details of thier next handheld, Nintendo DS, a dual screen (hence the name) design with more than a nod back to the old days of the Game & Watch.

The inverted commas around official in the title are because I can’t quite believe that an already flagging Nintendo would launch an already dated looking console.

Which would you prefer: something that looks like a couple of pocket neo-geos gaffered together or a PSP that looks the badgers-nadgers?

No, it’s not April 1st – it seems that Doom 3 is finally set for a summer release. Of course I’ll believe it when I actually get my hands on a copy.

As usual, no news on Duke Nukem Forever and Half-life 2 unsurprisingly.

How to Change a GFX Card without Invalidating your PC’s Warranty

Sweden produces almost as many nutters as Japan (except they’re not as small – therefore have less comedy value). The Datadocktor’n team are prime examples of Scandinavian idiocy. In this guide they teach us how to swap your graphics card without invalidating your PC warranty. Once you’ve stopped laughing then check out the other projects they’ve done over the years.

Yranoitcid

I knew there was a word for fear of long words. I knew also of the irony inherent within that word. For it is a word that sufferers cannot utter for the word itself contains 15 syllables! But, alas, I couldn’t remember it! So off I potter to try and discover a way of reversing the use of a dictionary. Lo, I discover this site amongst many other… simply type in a brief description of the word for which you hunt and it lists off many possibilities. Lovely. (btw, the word is hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia)

Blacked-out terms in classified documents can be deciphered

Rather impressively, a couple of bored cryptologists have found a way of deciphering redacted words (the blacked-out ones) in documents released via Freedom of Information acts. There are many of these memos that obfuscate key words to protect sources and this solution to decipher them is alarmingly simple (like all the best ideas).
