Infinite Gif
I love this gif from B3ta board member Magigale. It’s only a couple of inches squared but you can tile it horizontally and vertically and it loops beautifully. Class job.
Tastes like Chicken
The BBC are reporting that the US army have new food rations that are designed to be rehydated by urine to save on carryng water. It was invented by the same people who were behind the Indestructible Sandwich a couple of years back.
Douglas Pledger
We’re big fans of Douglas Pledger round these parts. He’s a multimedia god. Friends with Osymyso and ‘John’s Not Mad’ creators, Cartel Communique. Douglas’ artwork is excellent and covers a wide variety of fields from dvd covers to childrens books all with very fresh perspective. I expect to hear big things from him in the future.
Dykedolls – Dolls for Dykes
As the name suggests, DYKEdolls are dolls for dykes. Modelled on the Barbie style but these ones come with strap-on, vibrating extras.
Castlevania
Here’s a very cool flash game – the classic game Castlevania redone as a flash game – whip the ass of some skeletons and cast pathetic spells against dragons in your quest to kill Dracula. V.Cool.
The Church of SpongeBob Squarepants
There really is a church for everyone these days so in a fit of ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ I think I’ll throw my lot in with the Church of SpongeBob Squarepants. Mind you I can’t see anything about free love in their tenets but at least they don’t want my money.
Summer Surveillance – Pizza Delivery
Althoughthis animation is quite amusing, it’s not too farfetched and highlights the issues that will occur if many countries continue to adopt mindless ‘security’ related policies – Just think folks, this is David Blunkett’s dream (well, that and being able to see).
Godfrey Bloom – Cock
Although I don’t want to give any publicity to racist tw@ts in the UK Independence Party, I would like any who meets Godfrey Bloom in a dark alley to beat the living daylights out of him – even better if the person delivering the beatdown is a woman. This guy is on the European Parliament’s women’s rights committee but comes out with such childish statements as ‘No self-respecting small businessman with a brain in the right place would ever employ a lady of child-bearing age’, ‘(I want to deal with womens issues because) I just don’t think they clean behind the fridge enough’ and ‘I am here to represent Yorkshire women who always have dinner on the table when you get home. I am going to promote men’s rights’.
Godfrey Bloom – you are a c0cksmith of the highest order.
Congratulations to Solomon, Sputnik & Mir
If anyone’s happened to notice that Solomon hasn’t posted for a few days, it’s because he’s become a daddy! Big Congratulations especailly to Sputnik and I hope everything is well for you guys and baby Mir Jancy Rose. Now get some sleep!
Cuddle Party
The thought of a being at a party with a room full of people who want to cuddle me scares the living daylights out of me – I just know the big momma in the corner would take a shine to me and bearhug me to death.
Post box or CHEESE?. Possibly the hardest test in the world!
I’m ashamed to say that I only scored 87.5% on the Post box or cheese quiz. In my defence I thought the last one was a trick question.
One-Legged Dance Master
If you’ve ever played Dance Dance Revolution or any of that ilk then you’ll be aware of how hard it is for everyone except 10 yr old girls to play. Now I’ve been totally humiliated by the skills exhibited by this One-Legged Dance Master. Props, indeed.
Amazon Purchase Circles see what Microsoft Employees buy
Since Microsoft have a reputation for being nosey about what’s on your computer – why not us eone of Amazon’s new features to spy on them. Using the Corporate Purchase Circle section of Amazon, you can check out what Microsoft Employees are buying. Current favourites are as bland as you’d expect with Coldplay and Sting, debugging books and wireless routers. Unsurprisingly, the iPod doesn’t make an appearance.
Wil Wheaton – Just a Geek
We haven’t had a good Wil Wheaton post for a while now. Wil was Wesley Crusher in Star Trek TNG as was in the movie Stand By Me when he was a kid. Now, he’s still part actor but mostly a top-notch blogger/author/geek and he’s got a new book out called Just a Geek – have a squizz at the sample chapter and you’ll see that his style of writing is very engaging – stories of auditions mingle with tales of his family and the ocassional Shatner reference.
Audi’s Escher Advert
Audi new advert for the A6 needs repeated watching to get all the finer points. It’s based on the designs/illusions of M.C. Escher and is damn fine. (use the marvellous Bugmenot to bypass registration or pass:ravi, user:ravi).
Bikini Bounce
We need very little reason to post a link to a game called Bikini Bounce which involves using a pair of breasts as a trampoline. If only you could play a real-life version.
Booze Snorting
We posted about the concept of inhaling alcohol over a year ago and were a bit cynical as to whether it would ever get licensed and produced. Well, the AWOL – Alcohol Without Liquid Machine has found its way onto sale in Florida.
Arise Sir Berners-Lee
Good news for Tim Berners-Lee (‘creator’ of the interweb) – he’s been made a knight.
Pants People
Over-priced Pants People, Agent Provocateur, are about to release their first album. Ex Bananarama & Shakespear’s Sister Siobhan Fahey is one of the featured artists and she covers Joy Division’s marvellous ‘She’s Lost Control’. The video features the only woman worthy of carrying the mantle of Bettie Page – Mrs Marilyn Manson, and the resurrector of Burlesque, Dita Von Teese. (All links contain NSFW material)
Prodigy new album
Not that I’d ever recommend illegally downloading music – oh no, hang on that’s a lie – I wholeheartedly recommend it – especially if you go buy a copy if you like it. The Prodigy have been very quiet for the last few years whilst concentrating on solo projects, marriage and spending their money. The album is due out at the end of next month or you could go here and get it now.
Dirty Belgians
I had to laugh at this bus-stop advert from Belgium. (Those are bubbles, right?)
Get off IE without noticing
If like the rest of the sane world, you are wanting to make the move away from Internet Explore and wish to start using a different browser then here’s a handy hint to make life a lot easier. Download Opera then go to this page of customisations and download the simple scripts to change Opera’s default behaviour so that it looks and acts like IE but without all of the bugs and vulnerabilities. Try it on your mum’s computer and I bet she can’t tell the difference.
The $400 yo-yo
Due out later this year is the $400 yo-yo. It had better do more than ‘walking the dog’!
Any Excuse for a celebration!
I’ve been ill for a couple of days hence the lack of our usual amount of posts but thanks to the guys for covering up nicely (bet you didn’t even notice). All better now but I realised I missed the 2,000 post milestone for us. This post is the 2009th post since we first started back in June 2002 (I think that was when we properly started – the domain existed from the day that .me.uk domains came out in Jan 2002). We average about 4 posts a day during the week which takes a lot of work to find that many quality links every day & I really appreciate the help that I’ve had over the years from Al, Kaye, Popcorn & Solomon. The site now gets over 2,000 unique hits per day & I’ve started to notice the bandwidth start to creep towards my limits (which is doubly impressive if you consider that it’s basically a one page, text-only site)
I just want to take this opportunity to thank all our readers, tell you all to keep sending links in (and apologise if they don’t make it onto the site) and remind everyone of our other services. You can grab our RSS feed (which has just been fixed on the UK Weblog Aggregator after our server move) or sign up to the daily mailing list version of the site using the box on the right of the screen.
Next up – the much awaited face-lift, hopefully sometime I’ll get round to fixing the archive page and re-code the main page so that search results are much more informative.
Feedback as always is most welcome.
I love you all.
Media Center in a Wall Socket
Check this little beauty out. It’s a wall socket like a normal electriacl plug outlet except that this oone hides a hard drives, USB ports and, I presume, a system board so that it’s effectively a pc embedded in your wall. It’s a prototype so no idea if it will ever see the light of day but good idea nonetheless.
In mod we trust
Case moders are the riceboys of the geek world. So it was only time before we (for I am modder) got the equivilent of the Ponty* cruise, Modfest. Note the interesting use of a Barbie doll.
*or the Donny or any other place name shortened and suffixed with a y
Another ebay oddity
Yeah, this will probably be on every other blog but it’s a slow day.
$1mil Star Trek flat for sale.
As seen on Richard & Judy!
Oakley MP3 Sunglasses
After lots of discussion about whether these were pie in the sky or genuine, it now seems that Oakley are, indeed, to launch a range of MP3 Sunglasses. V.Cool.
Gene Simmons’ Firestarter
Gene Simmons, long-tongued, make-up wearing, KISS singer, has covered the classic Prodigy track Firestarter complete with MTV-blinging video. I challenge you to show this to any teenage kid and see if they think he looks a) cool or b) like a kiddie-fiddler. Bet b) is a popular choice. (the guitar’s not bad though).
