Bernie Ecclestone – Die, Die, Die.
I’ve just heard the news that Silverstone has been dropped from the 2005 Formula One schedules. Personally I was planning on going there next year, having had a great time at the Belgium Grand Prix this year but money-grabbing nazi Ecclestone has put a downer on that one. Don’t you have enough money already Bernie?
Flickr photo slideshows
I haven’t logged onto Flickr for a month or two but, friend of gromblog, Imran has just pointed out a couple of very cool new features to me. First up is the photo tagging. Every time you upload a photo to flickr, you can add your own tags to the image. Now you can create a slideshow of every image that has been uploaded to Flickr with any tag you want. Check out the slideshow for ‘sleeping’ as an example – it’s arty, hypnotic and addictive.
The other cool feature is that when you upload or view a photo, you can add notes to them in slices like hotspots – I’ve seen people upload a photo of a bookshelf and every book was clickable to take you to the Amazon page for that book. If anyone wants an invite for Flickr – I have 5 more to giveaway – just ask in the comments.
The Official God FAQ
In case you ever had any deep theological questions that you can’t get answered by your local ministeries or philosphers, why not see if the answer is in the Official God FAQ. Everything you need to know about religion is in there in a simple, easy to read and understand format.
More ‘One of these things is not like the others’
We’re getting close to saturation point on these Google Image Searches. Keen-eyed (or bored) readers are sending me several of these a day now but I still love them. There’s even a possibility of one of our readers setting up a site especially for these since they’re so popular. Today we bring you
university
engine
and machine.

Jpeg Vulnerability is in the wild
We don’t, as a general rule, tell our readers how to look after their computers or what software to use but for once I’m making an exception for the new JPeg Vulnerability. Bascially this new bug can easily enable someone to remotely takeover your computer just by you looking at a picture in an email or on a website etc. I’ve seen the details and the proof of concept (videoclip – v.scary).
The long and short of it is that you need to patch whichever system you use to ensure you don’t get hit by this. Go to windowsupdate and then officeupdate to get all the patches that you need and FFS make sure that your virus scanner is up to date. (this bug isn’t limited to Windows so you linux smuggies can wipe the smile off your faces – you’ll need to patch too!).
This has been a Pubic Slurfice Anoncement.
Bloglet updates
Quite a few of our readers only read the site by using the daily Bloglet email bulletin that you can subscribe to by using the box on the right-hand side of this page. Just to let you all know, I’ve changed the format of this email so that from today, it should look a lot better and you will finally have Titles showing up so more posts wil make sense now!If you ever have any problems or don’t receive any mails then please drop me a mail and I’ll sort it out – the service is a very good one but ocassionally it fails and I have to manually reset it, which I can only do if I spot that there’s something wrong.
One of these things…
Yet another in our series of ‘One of these things is not like the others’ – this time a GIS for moustache. As usual, one result is NSFW.
The Internet’s Most Accurate English-to-English Dictionary
The self-proclaimed Internet’s Most Accurate English-to-English Dictionary has now been updated to include Spanish to Spanish, French to French and German to German. I’m not quite sure why though. I guess it does live up to it’s claims that your original grammar, style, and spelling are left intact.
Another Deadly Car Alarm
One of our eagle-eyed readers has just sent me a follow-up to the anti car-theft device – this one on eBay is guaranteed to shock the thieves. It’s basically a farmer’s electric fence that you wire into your car body. Wonder if any crooks would try to take you to court for using it? cheers Bob
Using Google to access photocopiers, printers, webcams etc.
Saw this article today – about using google to access photocopiers and it brought back some memories. Just had a quick play and managed to get access to several companies printers. The webcam one was always the most fun though – (*hint* find out about Axis network cameras and learn about the management web server built-in – they’re dead easy to control remotely). Not tried photocopiers yet – might have a go tonight.
Bloglines Web Services
For any RSS geeks reading this – the guys behind the superb aggregator Bloglines have just released a new tool called Bloglines Web Services. It could be the start of turning RSS into the killer app it deserves to be. Simply put – RSS as it stands is flawed as there is no way to stop your server being hammered by countless repeated hits even though your content might not have changed. this new tool should help stop that issue by providing a decent feed cache. Check it out if it’s your bag.
The MacDonalds Job Simulator
Slow loading but nice MacDonald’s Job Simulator.
Rand 1954 PC of the Future – Fake – Does Not Compute
Many people will have received this image in their inboxes last week. As you’ll see from the article, it’s actually a fake image – what’s more humiliating is that it was from a Fark photoshop competition which I look at every day – I must have missed that one somehow so I too fell for the trick. It wasn’t intended as a hoax but that hasn’t stopped fellow farkers calling the original artist, ‘lukket’ an internet hero.
New Innovative Anti-Theft Device for Cars
Here’s an innovative new anti-theft device for cars. Looks high-quality.
Le Hip d’Hop
I’ve no idea how you pronounce Hip Hop in French without sounding like Inspector Clouseau but there must be somewhere on this Hip Hop site that’ll tell you – it has everything else including flash graffiti, breaking, slamming games etc.
One of these things is not like the others
I love this one. We’ve named this recurring feature of the site after a section of well loved kiddies programme, Sesame Street. Now let’s see what happens when we Googlie our ol’ Sesame Street favourites Bert and Ernie. NSFW.
Alternative Lorem Ipsum Generator
Malevole is a coder who’s featured on these pages before – this time, he’s devised a new tool that will appeal to anyone who has to create layouts. Normally the block text of ‘Lorem Ipsum…‘ is used but malevole’s Text Generator simply asks you for the amount of paragraphs and returns you a block of text to insert. What makes this fun is that the text seems to have been taken from the scripts for old cartoons and tv shows like Knightrider, The Muskehounds, the A-Team and Top Cat etc. Makes coding more fun.

Unfortunate Brand Name
I apologise in advance to one of our readers who had a coffee-spat-over-the-monitor moment with one of our earlier posts today so I’d better warn you not to click on this link until you’ve emptied your mouth of all liquids. I guess some of our British playground slang just never made it across the Atlantic.
Laura Boles – Dumped by Powerpoint
Is Laura Boles the first person to be dumped via a Powerpoint presentation?
Chav-tastic
Spotted by one of our spies – go to Argos.co.uk (low-rent UK shop) and type ‘chav’ into the search engine. See what results you get.
Google Image Search – colours
The results you get when you search google for everyday colours are quite interesting. There’s 8008135 for pretty much every result. Check out red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, violet, and magenta. Even puce, mauve and taupe get a look in! The only colour I’ve found so far that doesn’t reap 8008135 is vermillion!
btw is this the pri.me post with the most links ever?
Geek Man Action Figure
I’m not sure why this is called an ‘Action Figure’ – maybe because it sounds less sissy than ‘doll’ but who would want a 6 inch Geek Man Action Figure? Is it for geek girls to play with? I can see Mrs. grom buying it as a voodoo doll though.
Flash game thing
This is a lovely flash game thing. It is enjoyable but… umm… if you can figure out what it’s about then leave a comment.
Jaws in 30 seconds with bunnies
AngryAlien have done it again – this time they tackle Jaws in 30 seconds with bunnies. It’s every bit as good as it sounds.
God hates Bush
It’s official! Look what happens when you overlay the 2000 election results map of Florida with the paths of Hurricanes Ivan, Charley and Frances (The pink counties are Geedubbya, the blue counties are Gore). I dare you to say this is mere coincidence!
