Zappa Vs Lofton
Fantastic ‘Crossfire’ interview with the indescribable Frank Zappa and some right-wing Washington Post guy called John Lofton about freedom of expression and censorship laws in the US. It’s quite a long video but it is wonderfully entertaining if you know your Zappa from your Zapata. If you don’t know your Zappa where the hell have you been all your life? Praps you should read some of these. Link goes to ifilm.com.
Wind Up Sushi Set
What on earth does Wind Up Sushi do – I mean, what is there to wind up – do they just vibrate a bit – wouldn’t that be freaky having raw fish wibbling about on a plate?
thanks Phil
Gmail – Anyone still not got an account?
I’ve still got quite a few extra Gmail accounts going if anyone still doesn’t have one and is interested – just leave a comment or email me and I’ll sort you out.
Maim that Loon with an Office Micro-Claymore
If work’s a little slow this week then why not start setting up some booby traps for those lazy sods who are still off work. Bleach Eating Freaks had a competition a while back for weapons made out of office supplies. The site seems down at the time of writing but I think that’s only temporary. One of the best (if by best, you mean ‘potentially harmful’) was the Micro-Claymore submitted by Nathan Walton. You can see his other (slightly less scarey) entries to the competition here.
People looking like their pets
Do people buy dogs that look like themselves… or do people end up making themselves look like their dogs? You decide. (Scroll down a third of the page for the pics)
We are the road crew
Smashing ‘lemmings’ style game involving PA cabs, sweaty roadcrew, musicians and (probably the lowest of the low) gig security! Courtesy of Gprime.net. Possible repost but who cares.
Exhaustively Informative but Utterly Pointless Websites pt.7 – ASCII Cows
Here’s another addition to our occassional series of Exhaustively Informative but Utterly Pointless Websites – this time the opic is ASCII renderings of Cows. Random enough for you?
Parcel Routing game
This is not a game to play when full of Seasonal cheer. No idea what it’s called but the premise is pretty simple – route the parcels to their correct vehicle. Gets pretty hard after only a few levels.
Child’s Play – Retro Gaming Focus groups Pt.2
A while back these guys let a bunch of schoolkids loose with some classic old-skool retro videogames and asked their opinions. They’ve reconvened the focus group to study more games and give thier opinions on such classic games as the original Legend of Zelda, the original Grand Theft Auto and my favourite game of all time – the wireframe arcade Star Wars game, which prompts one of the group to say “It feels like they’re trying to give me flowers. But flowers that you’re allergic to, so you’re trying to blow them up.” Funny Stuff.
Desktop Antiques from a Parallel Universe
Kaden Harris makes cube toys – you know the sort of thing geeks have on their desks at work. Kaden’s ones aren’t your usual nerf guns or silly putty, oh no, his are more like antiques from a Parallel Universe. He makes tiny trebuchets (sling shots), guillotines and my favourite, the hypnodisk. They all work (well, not 100% sure about the hypnodisk) and look like HG Wells meets HP Lovecraft in a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen kind of way. He’s even got a sale on for the next 3 days which makes the toys much more affordable but you’d better be quick.
Ifoundyourphoto
We’re big fans of ‘found’ stuff here. I’m fascinated by people-watching and peeks into other people’s lives so I was happy to get an email from Victor telling me that he’s a reader of our little site. He runs ifoundyourphoto which, in his words, “…has 158 found photos most of which were lying around the streets of Boston. There are pictures, negatives, IDs, Drivers licenses, xrays….basically anything that isn’t 4color presswork or digital output (though I have recently found a discarded photodisc). Its scheduled for some updates, but has the base functionality and isn’t too awful to look at”. Good work fella – I especially liked the B&W; shots onthe first page.
DR31 – one hell of an annoying game
Just stumbled across this annoying and addictive game – DR3I takes a short time to understand then you get sucked in.
Merry Xmas everybody – I guess there’ll only be sporadic posts for the next week but feel free to sign up for the daily mailshot so you don’t miss anything while you’re on holiday – sign up using the box on the right of the screen.
Are You Man enough?
I can’t stress qute enough how NSFW this link is but this one goes out to every man who thinks that he would make a good pr0nstar.
Man wins contest to become pr0nstar with one catch: If he can’t finish the deed, he gets F’d in the A. Queue up a bout of performance anxiety followed by some crying, and it’s strap-on time.
Fun with Light Sabres
This site lets you play with every light saber from the Star Wars movies. Which is nice.
Fontifier – Your own handwriting as a font
Here’s a very cool idea – I’m also amazed that I’ve not seen this service before – Fontifier lets you scan in your handwriting and turn it into a font. Mind you, since my handwriting is worse than an illiterate doctor, it’s probably not a smart idea for me to use. Mine is so bad I can’t read my own writing.
What’s wrong with this picture?
No prizes for guessing what’s wrong with this picture.
Possibly the worlds Dirtiest Computer
Is this the World’s Dirtiest Computer? At least it’s earthed judging from the photos.
President Of Advanced Motorists Is Banned
Amusing snippet of news – the President of the Advanced Motorists society has had his driving license revoked after being caught speeding for the 4th time.
Look into my eyes…
Look into my eyes… not around the eyes… look into my eyes… you’re under! Click on the picture and drag it… 3.. 2.. 1.. You’re back in the room! (NSFW)
Crazy Asian Drinks
Anyone who’s ever drunk a thirst-quenching Japanese drink only to gag on the gelatinous globules that seem to exist inside every one will appreciate the effort involved in doing a taste-test round-up of those Crazy Asian Drinks. Sample quote:”As you swallow, the chunks invade your mouth, march upon the gullet and occupyyour stomach where they celebrate until you upchuck“
One of these things is not like the others…
It’s time for yet another GIS result that isn’t quite like the others – this time it’s burgers which does the necessary. (as usual – one result is NSFW)
Giant Mecha Robot being built in Alaska
A bloke called Carlos Owens is building a very cool mecha robot in his backyard. If you don’t know, a mecha is human controlled robot – like Ripley uses in Aliens or the ones in the big fight scene in the last of the Matrix movies. Check out the very cool picture.
The Apple Graphing Calculator Story
Skunkworks are projects that are generally classed as ‘under the radar’ (if you’ll excuse the management-speak). This tale of the Apple Graphing Calculator is one of the best examples I’ve seen. The whole tale reads like the script for OfficeSpace2.
Loads more info on the H2G2 movie
Slashdot have posted an update on the forthcoming HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy movie. There’s a mirror of the short video mentioned here since the original was slashdotted within an hour of posting. The final link is to the Ain’t It Cool pre-review (did I just invent a new word there?).
Unnecessarily Exhaustively Informative Websites
It’s been a little while since we’ve had one of these. If there were awards to be won for ‘most random selection of things on one page’ and ‘most unnavigable site’ then this site must win hands down! Upon closer inspection, you will find that about 5% each page has something to do with an insanely tedious statistical analysis of cars and the rest is a huge variety of links through to Amazon… cue the ‘shameless prostitution of webspace’ award!
Am I a Freak?
Weirdest s3x education video ever. Am I a Freak?is a BBC animation about a girl who’s unsure if her kebab is packed badly or not. If you see what I mean. This is hilarious and scary. I blame the parents.
eBay item Alien Bacteria and Haunted Outer Space Grandpa Ghost
If that title isn’t confusing enough, check out this eBay auction for Alien Bacteria and Haunted Outer Space Grandpa Ghost. I’m still not sure what’s being sold here – it looks to me liek someone has bid $575 for an envelope of air. I can’t describe this auction properly without resoting to quoting from the page so here’s a choice snippet;
“I…spilled some of the “Magic Air” on my left foot. My shoe grew from a size 11 to a 17 DDD in less than 15 seconds. I ceased pouring any more of the Magic Air out and placed the Haunted Purple Glass in my cupboard.”
cheers Bob
BTW – does anyone know of a quick and simple site that will let me take a cached snapshot of a page like an eBay auction so that when the auction finishes, we can still laugh at them?
Scared of Santa photo gallery
Santa used to be a friendly old man. Not any more – much like clowns, many people see Santa as an evil person whose only purpose is to frighten small children. Proof of this (as well as being the source of some fantastic photos) comes from the Scared of Santa photo contest. Who could fail to be freaked out by a Santa like this serial-killer-visaged psycho.
Google Suggest
Google are trying out another new feature and yet again, it’s surprising how well they’ve managed it. Google Suggest is an auto-complete version of google. Simply start typing and it will do predictive text for you. It’s much better than it sounds and it succeeds with even more unusual words (like grom).
Xmas shockwave thing
Now, I’m sure this was blogged last year but it seems to be doing the rounds again. And why not? Oh, yes – do try and click a reindeer.
