Theory of Blogging

John Gabriel has clearly spent an enormous amount of time, money and resources in his ceaseless attempt to create a general unified theory of internet use. Money well spent because, by George, I think he’s done it

Hayseed Dixie – Ace of Spades video

We’ve been championing Hayseed Dixie for a few years now. Their brand of redneck music works really well and now I’ve just been sent the link to the new video for their version of Ace of Spades. The vid’s kinda naff but at least you can hear what we’ve been talking about for ages. It also seems that Chris Moyles from Radio 1 has also picked up on them but seems to think that they’re British for some reason.

ASIMO can run!

ASIMO, the fantastic robot that the research team at Honda have been working on for the past few years, can run! He/it has been clocked at 3Km/h and as you can see from the video, that’s not too shabby for a robot. Can’t wait for a consumer version of this – unfortunately that looks like being about 10 years away.

Blunkett Gone – Bedtime for Bonzo

Well, we’ve finally had some good news this week. Tory wannabe David Blunkett has finally resigned. No doubt some other puppet will pick up the ID card mantle and it will still get pushed through under the guise of anti-terrorism but with a bit of luck we might just possibly have some proper debate now instead of having a ‘voluntary’ scheme imposed upon us here in the UK.

(On a, hopefully, unrelated note – how come everytime I post something about the BNP, I get people supporting them in the comments – do they spend all day searching for mentions of themselves? Losers.)

‘Shroom Law Fudged

It’s long been difficult to understand the laws surrounding ‘magic’ mushrooms in the UK – I think if you pick them for personal use on a sunday in full moon when there’s an ‘R’ in the month then it’s legal or something like that. I’m not the only who thinks like that – the courts are confused too.

Piercing Looks

Years ago, Solomon and I chatted about the possibility of creating pierced spectacles that could be worn through the bridge of the nose and not on top of the nose like most normal glasses. I think we decided that whilst totally feasible it just wasn’t the most practical thing (although the flip-up feature is quite handy). Fast forward to the present day and someone has made some Pierced Eyeglasses. I’ll let you make your own minds up (& I’m sure Solomon will have his own unique take on this).

World’s SMallest p2p program

All it took was 15 lines of code to create TinyP2P the world’s smallest p2p file-sharing program. Just don’t forget – p2p isn’t illegal, despite what people try to tell you, what you do with it might be though.

Gmail? Pah! How about a 1TB email acount?

If your gmail account isn’t big enough then maybe you need to shrink the amount of pr0n you collect. Alternatively you could look at getting a Hellacious Riders 1TB email account which allows 500Mb attachments. It’d be lovely if there was a way of streaming from it too but you can’t have everything I guess.

cheers Al

Programmer says he developed vote-rigging prototype for Florida congressman

There have been rumours about vote-rigging in some US states that used touch-screen voting booths but now I’ve just stumbled across this article about a programmer who has sworn an affidavit saying that he developed a vote-rigging prototype for a Florida congressman. Funnily enough, the congressman is staying silent so far…

Declaration of Annexation of the United Kingdom as part of the USA

There’s an old document floating around on the interweb full of rules for our Yank cousins (found here). As retaliation it’s only fair to print the American response so here’s the official Declaration of Annexation of the United Kingdom as part of the USA. Both articles are essential reading for everyone on both sides of the pond.

Mechanisms and Movement

Judging by this bit of this web site I bet you wouldn’t guess what they sell! Considering I’ve just spent the past 20 minutes learing all about the Stirling Engine and the Geneva Stop in the medium of flash animation it’s hard to believe these guys actually make DIY animated paper models. These guys must really know their stuff. In polite company I wouldn’t usually admit to enjoying such a site but I happen know many of our readers would also quite like to geek all over this site. I am in good company.

We love unexpected Google Image Search results – whilst having a interweb shufty for things associated with Xmas I searched for xmas sh1t3 (correctly spelt, of course) and I was somewhat surprised by the outcome. NSFW. NSF weak stomachs.
