Nathan Barley’s TVGoHome compendium

Now that Nathan Barley has entered the mainstream, I figured it was time to revisit his old tvgohome stomping grounds, only to discover that it’s no longer online. Luckily, nothing is ever lost on the internet and I’m pleased to bring you the c¦_¦nt compendium (NSFW contains many, many rude words).

Hounds of Love

One of my favourite songs at the moment is The Futureheads’ inspired cover version of Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love. They’re such nice boys that they’ve got some web geek to make them a Hounds of Love game for you to play.

Everquest — now with extra toppings

Online game Everquest (aka Evercrack thanks to it’s addictive qualities) have added a new command to it’s latest update. One of these is ‘/pizza’ which, in an act of utter genius by the game programmers, pops up a browser window and directs you straight to the online order page for Pizza Hut.

The Baby Name Wizard’s NameVoyager

They call is “the baby name wizard”. I prefer to call it “the graphical representation of name popularity over the last century with added functionality“. Not as succinct, I know, but it does sum it up nicely. Try typing your name in.

Breaking The Law

Even more genius than John Cage’s original 4’33″ is this idea. Go to iTunes, get a copy of Ciccone Youth silent song ‘Silence’ then strip the DRM from it and offer it as a free, utterly illegal download. Go on, break the law, download a cracked mp3 of silence.

Burglars Beware

Breaking into a geek’s house is never a good idea. Mostly because all you will get will be box sets of Babylon 5 or X-Files dvds which are notoriously hard to shift at a car boot sale. This chavvy Burglar fell foul of another problem with raiding a nerd household – the webcam that mails it’s images to a remote server.

*Edit* Got a brief mention on the Guardian’s blog for this article. Which is nice.

The most embarrassing thing in the world

Just imagine how it would feel to appear on Blind Date (Which is bad enough). Then imagine you get asked to dance in front of the audience… and you can’t dance! (horrors!) But you do it anyway because you’re a good sport! Then the audience starts clapping and smiling… stoking your ‘showing off’ fire! Only when you’ve finished your piece do you realise your n0rk popped out! Now would be an appropriate moment for the Earth to open up beneath her feet. LSFW and somewhat embarrassing to watch. Link directly to mpeg.

P1mp my…

We have seen wholesale p1mping of pretty much everything. This is the first p1mp my coffin I’ve seen! (LSFW due to the deceased – but I love his pink jacket. In fact, I guess this is also ‘pimp my deceased’)

First review of HHG2G

It was only yesterday that we were drooling over the first trailer of the new Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy movie and then today Ain’t It Cool News has the first review of the full film. There are spoilers but let’s face it – you should know the plot by now anyway. Summary quote, ‘The rest of the movie is not just passable, but near perfect.’ Which bodes very well indeed.

Matisyahu: The Jewish Rap/Reggae Superstar

Oy Vey! We’ve just been laughing at this guy at work – Matisyahu: The Hip Hop Hasidic Reggae Superstar. Not laughing in a bad way – he’s actually very good but it’s just very surreal seeing an Orthodox Jew rapping and singing in a Jamaican stylee. Bahamian Barmitzvah anyone? Good live performance and interview here.

Cory Doctorow’s ‘I, Robot’

For something a little different why not pop over to infinitematrix and have a read of BoingBoing head honcho Cory Doctorow’s short story I, Robot. Cory’s a good writer, I’ve read most of his published work – while it’s not especially groundbreaking and a lot of his personal bugbears get incorporated (see the many not-very-hidden references to DRM/copyright/format wars etc), I did enjoy it in the same way I still like picking up old Phillip K Dick or early Neal Stephenson stories. Good stuff.

S3x Gandams

“Japan is famous for all things small, plastic, shiny, and imitation. Miniature plastic food. Miniature plastic robots. Miniature plastic human generative organs. So naturally I thought, “Why not combine them”.

With thinking like that, no wonder we love these s3x toys made into real toys.

New version of Messenger Encrypter released

There’s a new version of Secway out today. It’s a simple, small program that encrypts your MSN/AIM/ICQ/Yahoo messenger traffic. I’ts very handy if you use Messenger programs at work and best of all, it’s free for personal use. I’ve been using it for ages and actually forgot it was running it’s that unobtrusive.

A little while ago we blogged what I believe are called some ‘sick’ hip-hop moves. Well, our friends over at muchosucko have found a clip of moves which are just plain bonkers.
*Edit*Just a warning – this site has plenty of NSFW banner ads at the bottom and in the sidebars so be careful out there.

Another puzzle

This one looks pretty tricky – and claims it’s only been solved by just a few people. Nothing more to say really. It took me only a couple of minutes to get to level 4 but now I’m stuck for ideas. Why don’t you give it a bash?

Bulls and balls

In Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum said “Nature has a way!”. Meaning? Basically, don’t fvck with nature because she is a damn site harder than you could ever be! I think this is a good illustration of that quote, although I’m not sure if it is quite what he had in mind! Clip involves a bloke and a bull – it maybe a little shocking at first but no one is hurt in this clip (well, apart from the guys pride!) LSFW.

ASCII Movies

We have posted this site before but last time they got so much publicity that the site went down for a while. I’ve just been reminded of it so here’s a large collection of movies rendered purely in ASCII. Watching the matrix like this somehow seems right!
