Yeah, right!

I’m having a little trouble working out how this bloke managed to shot himself in the face with a nail gun without noticing. Must have been a new extreme sport or some bizarre kinky game.

HowTo: Install OSX Tiger on Intel Machines (or USB Drives) Using Only Windows Software

I’ve been following this for a few days until I was satisfied that it would actually work but it now seems legit enough to post. A bunch of guys Mitten wearers have been working on enabling users to run Apple’s Mac OSX on a pc. Well, they’ve done it. Here’s some instructions on Installing OSX Tiger on Intel Machines (or USB Drives) using only Windows software.
Please note the highly amusing line; “Authorized users should obtain the OSX files from Apple. It is illegal to obtain them from torrent sites by searching under the following keywords: “VMWare files for patched Mac OS X Tiger Intel”“.
More info
here and a video of it booting and running also.

The Specials – 25 years on

One of my longest love affiars has been with ska music – I’m not talking about the pseudo punk ska a la No Doubt (although I am partial to some of that stuff), I mean the Jamaican and UK varieties like Toots and the Maytals, Jackie Mittoo and The Specials. As a treat to celebrate 25 years of the Specials, a couple of previously unreleased demo tracks are available for download from this site. You can get direct downloads with these links;

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

(yep, the classic old ‘? & the Mysterians’ track)

and

.

They’re not the greatest tracks but it’s nice to have more to add to my collection.

SPAMSHIRT – Wear Spam with Pride

Reclaim spam as your own with a custom Spamshirt. I actually quite like the randomness of some of these – they work better than many expensive sloganed t-shirts. Do a GIS for spamshirt for some examples already in the wild.

We Love the Smell of CUMMING in the morning

We’ve always been big fans of Cumming. That’s Alan Cumming, the James Bond baddie (Goldeneye) and star of one of the funniest comedies never to have been repeated on the BBC, The High Life.

His latest venture is CUMMING – the fragrance (presumably to be followed by the Second Cumming?). I love the idea of this product being for sale – at first I thought it was a spoof but it actually seems legit – what a star! Don’t think I’ll be splashing it on personally.

(& if this post gets past your internet filters then you probably need to get a more effective filter!)

Accessible UK Train Timetables

Here’s a very handy site to bookmark for our UK readers – Accessible UK Train Timetables is a simplified version of the National Rail site but it works in any browser and doesn’t use cookies etc – it’s well worth bookmarking on your phone if you have the ability as it should work perfectly on it.

Etsy – handmade shopping

Bring out the inner hippy in you with a trip to Etsy. If you want to buy or sell anything handmade then this is your place. there’s tons of godawful stuff like ‘Sacred Space Herbal Carpet Powder’ but there are a few gems in there. I guess if you don’t like what they sell then the idea is to make yoru own stuff to stick on the site and flog to gullible nutters.

Arcata Police Log

We haven’t had an Arcata Eye Police Log post for a while. We used to feature these regularly but then they went all commercial and released a book. If you haven’t ever come across the site before, it’s the police log of incidents for a small town in the States – here’s a brief example; August 2, 2005: “5:27 p.m. A man reported running naked through a north Arcata trailer park answered the door of his mobile home clad only in pants and mullet. Police advised him to stay inside unless he can manage clothing. “.

Funny Stuff.

Make your own PC Still

Computers can do many useful things but one important feature has been missing since computers began – the ability to distill your own booze. Sure there have been some attempts but now you can turn yoru old pc into a working still – it’s like Bill Gates meets the Dukes of Hazzard (not really, but it segues neatly into the next post (see above)).

The Sewell Sampler

Sound boards have been on the net for many years now but I’ve never come across one quite as amusing as the Brian Sewell Sampler. Brian is a perculiarly English person who’s primary job seems to still be as an art critic but normally he’s just employed to be a marvellously opinionated talking head used whenever a tv show wants a comedy vox pop.

Say No to 0870 – very handy site

The Say No To 0870 website is a very handy one to bookmark. It lists alternative freephone and geographical phone numbers that either cost less or bypass normal switchboards when you’re trying to contact companies. One word of caution – I loked up my company and the numbers were incorrect but other companies I’ve tried were right.

Trouble With Space Loo

NASA have had a few problems recently – accidentally blowing up a couple of bunches of astronauts, space shuttles needing repairs, not to mention today’s mishap (not being able to fuel up the Mars-bound rocket and having to raincheck ’til tomorrow). One thing that wasn’t massively mentioned was the problem of the recent crew being knee deep in space p00 because, despite being warned about potential problems by the crew commander, they insisted on sticking 9 people in the International Space Station. I bet they smelt pretty bad when they came back. Cheers Sputnik

WinPSPortal: The Offline PSP Portal

I haven’t had time to check this out yet but it does look like a great idea for those lucky few of us with PSPs – WinPSPortal is an offline portal – basically a multifunction webpage – that has calendar, word-processing, instant messenger functionality and a few little games. It’s free but there is a newer version expected very soon. There’s a demo available if you want to try it out too.

Formula One – boring in comparison to this

Solomon and I are wll known to be Formual One afficionados but even we find it a bit dull at times (although any race that Schumacher doesn’t win is worth watching IMHO). Compare the technical prowess of the F1 drivers with the sheer excitement and danger that other forms of racing have – just check out this video – they just keep on crashing again and again!
