Rent-a-D1ldo – PSA

Oh. My. God.

Please tell me that this is a joke. (Doubt you’d want to open it at work but not really NSFW).

Need a ButtKicker

All gamers are used to force feedback devices these days (rumble packs or vibrating joysticks for those who still don’t know what I’m talking about) but how about this – the Buttkicker is a device that straps to the underside of your chair and…well, I’ll let you work out the rest.

(Also note the very unfortunate photo on the homepage – makes you wonder what other devices they sell!)

Generate a Composition

If you happen to be someone who enjoys downloading brash, loud, beepy nasty ringtones then don’t bother reading this post you tasteless oik (and expect your phone to be dropped in your pint if you like to demonstrate your ‘ringtone collection’ down the boozer). However, if you like to download ringtones with a better cool factor, you can try composing your own on this site. Cool bit of kit. It helps if you actually like freeform jazz though as there seems to be negliable difference between most of it’s creations.

USB Key essential nerd download

Mike Tech Show, a good podcast site, has put together a 62Mb download of essential software to carry around on your usb keyring. I don’t think this is a definitive list (where’s the USB-friendly version of Thunderbird or the usb bootable version of Linux?) but it’s a good comprehensive start. You can see what’s included and download it from here.

PSP firmware downgrader released

Following on from our post a few days ago about a possible PSP firmware hack to allow you to run homebrew software, it seems that someone has already managed it. I’ve not tested this myself yet so please do your research before you attempt this hack but it’s good news for all early adopters out there.

Bad A55 Mofo Pencils

Does the guy in the cubicle next to you doubt how much of a bada55 mofo you are? Put him straight with these fantastic pencils. I’d really like some of these – they appeal to my perverse sense of humour. (NB. link and link’s url contain some very naughty words indeed).

Filthy-mouthed weatherman

I assume this was live TV and the weatherman bloke simply forgot. It’s amazing how a tiny slip of the tongue can lead to such an outburst of eloquent and delightfully delivered profanities. Turn it up and wait for his smile at the end. What a charmer.

Animal Acts

Ay oop, all. I’m back from my hols and it looks like you’ve got on alright without me. I have no idea what JC has been up to and, frankly, I can’t be bothered checking out what he’s been posting so I’ll just start with some lovely animal pics. There’s a tidge of photoshopping going on in one or two… but that’s quite acceptable considering the general quality of the authentic snaps. Sorry if I repost anything… if I do then it must be good and therefore you won’t mind seeing it again.

There’s something I can’t quite put my finger on about this site – Minimiam has lots of images of small figures in unusual ‘landscapes’ and just looks great – I’m not sure what it is but it’s strangely enticing.

Commercial Breaks and Beats

We first blogged this site way back when we first started this site over 3 years ago but it’s well worth an extra post. Commercial Breaks and Beats is a database of the music used in UK tv adverts (and amazingly, not every entry is Moby!). Also of interest if you like this kind of thing is UK TV ADverts which does the same but for actors and actresses who do the voiceovers and US readers might like to try Sounds Familiar(although I’ve not checked this one out yet).

cheers for the reminder our kid

Hacking with RFID

I’ve expressed concerns over the growing use (and reliance) on RFID tags in shops. For some reason recently we’ve seen this form of tag being utilised more and more by large corporations as a way of tracking goods and purchases in stores and in many areas, RFIS is now being used to pay for services by eliminating checkouts. The guys over at RFIDAnalysis have proved that using low-cost equipment, you can copy and crack other people’s tags and get yourself some free petrol. More fuel for the fire – I’m glad that more of this proof of concept work is now coming out – wonder if the UK id cards will still include RFID tags?

How many condoms can you wear at once?

It’s such a simple question, you wonder why no-one’s answered it before – then you relise that no-one in their right mind needs to know how many condoms you can wear at once.

Opera is now totally free

Not Fat Ladies singing – I’m talking about the web browser Opera which until recently wasn’t as popular as Firefox due to the built-in adverts unless you paid. Now they’ve decided to give the full, un advert-laden browser away for free. I’ve used it on and off for several years and like some of the features a lot (ability to zoom in on pictures, tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, RSS feed reading) although some like mouse gestures never did grab me that much. If you want a good solid browser then I’d recommend it (but then again, I’d also recommend Firefox too).

Salvo’s Restaurant blog

Salvo’s is a small restaurant here in Leeds which has been a regular haunt of mine for well over a decade now. One of the owners, Gip – a well known and liked person about town has started up a Salvo’s blog covering plenty of foodie topics – I’ll be keeping tabs on this one to see how it goes – he’s got some recommendations for places to eat throughout the country and if Gip recommends it, it must be decent, trust me.
*Edit* I’ve just found out that Salvo’s was listed in the top 10 Italian restaurants in the UK this month in the Times newspaper so congratulations to them for that achievement
