Snickers Irony

Anyone of a certain age from the UK will appreciate the irony of this new Snickers bar.

One of These Images is Not Like the Others

Congratulations to Carl for finally finding his first OOTINLTO. I’ve just received an ecstatic mail from him celebrating the fact fact that he found one and I’d like you all to share in his happiness. Don’t forget to send any more over if you stumble across them. So here it is (and it is a perfect example of a OOTINLTO) – Ladies and gentlemen here’s the GIS for shot put.

Stomp in Flash

Nice version of the Stomp stage show done in Flash (incidentally, when this loaded I was listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Born on the Bayou’ and it fitted beautifully!).

PSA

Just to let you know that I’m going to be incommunicado for a few days and I know Solomon’s extremely busy at the moment so don’t expect too many posts until next week. Sorry about that but this is merely a hobby and it costs you nothing (although it does cost me a pretty penny in both time and money!).

Have fun and don’t break the site while I’m away.

Calling all Satanists

Urgent news from B3ta;

SATANISTS! This weekend is your last chance to concieve if you want He Who Walks Backwards’ child born on 6/6/6. Any later and to be out then, he’d be premature and perhaps a bit weedy. Go, go Beelzebaby action!

Let’s get this right… Shaq is big. I mean BIIIIGGG!!! He is certainly no small dude. In that case, just how goddam big is the other guy?? Anyone know who he is? (NSFW banner)

A Guide to Cooking an Egg with Mobile Phones

I’m sceptical over this one so feel free to try it and tell us your results. The people over at Wymsey.co.uk reckon you can boil an egg using mobile phones in about 3 mins. I’ve seen eggs cooked using computer heatsinks and car engines before but never using waves like this. Possibly using old style of analogue mobile phones and a lot longer than 3 minutes but hey I really don’t care that much.

The Art of Retouching

We have posted some other examples of photoshop retouching in the past but I don’t think we’ve done this one from Glenn Feron before (although I’m sure Solomon will correct me on that). It’s another very good example of how much magazine shoots are altered and also how normal those pin-ups on your wall are in real life. Sorry to shatter your dreams boys.

1337 Scrabble Tiles

Are you tired of playing word games designed in the Victorian era? You need L33T scrabble tiles so j00 can get pwned by teenagers.

PocketMod

Here’s a cute lo-tech idea called PocketMod. It’s basically an app that lets you customize a piece of paper before printing it. Each mod will be something like a crossword, a calendar, blank music notation pages, lined or gridded pages, even Tic Tac Toe. You pick the pages you want, print it and then fold it to take away with you. Lovely, simple idea – it would be even nicer with more additions such as the ability to pull in news headlines for instance.

Lego Lawyers Say No One Else Can Be Named Lego

Remember last week when the Lego lawyers would scold you for going to legos.com instead of lego.com? Well, now they’re suing a Danish artist whose middle name is ‘Lego’ (apparently it’s a perfectly legal Danish family name).

Boo Hiss lego – you are rapidly losing the geek vote thanks to your overzealous lawyers.

Guess what this is?

A regular feature on the Random Good Stuff site is the Guess what it is feature which led me to

this page. How many things can you spot that are wrong, wrong, wrong on the latter link? (& I don’t just mean the unfortunate use of the word ‘knob’, especially in conjunction with the word ‘blade’).

BeeDogs – Dogs dressed as bees

Talking of odd subcultures (we weren’t? oh, ok, we are now then), I’d never realised that there was a large enough subsection of society odd enough to warrant the beedogs site. Yep, that’s a whole site purely about dogs dressed as bees. I think the site creator, Gina Zycher, deserves our praise for bringing a ray of sunshine to her corner of the internet.

Find-A-Human – handy site for our US readers

Hate dealing with automated phone systems that take 10 minutes before you get through to a human? Well, here’s a brilliant site (for US only unfortunately) to help you Find-A-Human. I wish someone would come up with a UK version of this site.

Cube of Toothpicks

Beautiful but pointless. Not me, this art installation of a Cube of Toothpicks. See the other mass-produced items formed into regular, repetitive shapes on the same page.

(& before the pedants start up, I do know that toothpicks are anything but pointless, in fact this piece of art probably has literally more ‘point’ than any I’ve seen before but you try making up post after post for our links – it’s tough work!)

Mexico City is SimCity

Oscar Ruiz is a helicopter pilot in Mexico and you need to check out his Aerial Photographs of Mexico City – I already knew that there was a surreal blend of those with money and those without but this highlights it superbly. The low cost housing looks like someone designed the city using SimCity. Governmental planning consent seems to be an alien concept judging from images like this one. Stunning images.

Windows Tips

I must profess to feeling a little stupid for not knowing this already but it sounds, from a quick straw poll around the office (and we are all geeks here), that many people didn’t know this. You can easily turn on auto-complete in the Windows command line interface with a simple reg tweak. Have a look at the winner of August’s Top Tips for details – now I can tick another arguement off when our Unix users try to gloat. There are plenty of other not-quite-as-geeky tips here as well which will suit every Windows user.

Mining Mars for the Future

Just seen a new ompany that’s been set up in the States – 4Frontiers have been set up specifically to focus on colonizing and mining Mars to ‘export’ (ie: rape) the natural resources available there. It’s an odd idea but what makes me notice this company is the amount of money that seems to be behind them. I’ve no problem with capitalism of this kind as long as they don’t attempt to lay claim to any rights of land (can you open-source an entire planet?).

Think this guy is scared of rats?

I’m still laughing at this video – it’s best savoured by playing it repeatedly on a loop as the guy’s reaction to being leapt on by a rat is superb but is ten times funnier if you loop the video and just watch him fall over time after time after time.

Warning signs that your child might be a Goth

Amongst the useful signs to look out for that might indicate that your child is a goth are;

“Wears a pin that says, “I am a GOTH.”"

“Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.”

“Uses the blood of Christian babies to inscribe pentagrams or other symbols on churches and schools.”

Not terribly pratical, but still intriguing, the Stonehenge Pocket Watch proves why Stonehenge was great for telling time by the stars but awful as a sundial – we don’t have enough sun in the UK to ever be able to tell the time with it.
