Real Life Super Mario Bros
Brilliant real life re-enactment of Super Mario Bros.
OOTTINLTO – Chernobyl
Not strictly a OOTTINLTO as there are 2 odd ones out but the GIS for Chernobyl is still odd enough to post
cheers Chris
National Day of Slayer
June 6, 2006 is 6/6/6 no matter what calendar you use so help celebrate this momentous day by taking part in the National Day of Slayer.
the first pedant to say that the date is actually 06/06/06 will have their IP banned – that means you anistropia/cubby/Solomon and all you others!
Hammerhead, the CD thrower robot
Lego that can kill – now that’s got to be a good idea! Check out the Hammerhead, Lego CD thrower robot and then have a look at some videos of it in action. Cool or what?
The Annual MySpace Stupid Haircut Awards
This, it has to be said, is a work of sheer, utter genius. Rob from Demonbaby has put together the brilliant First Annual MySpace Stupid Haircut Awards where he, not only foudn some of the worst haircuts on the afore-mentioned site, but also found the miscreants superhero alter-egos too. It was so successful that he’s already managed to do the Second Annual MySpace Stupid Haircut Awards which is just as good, if not better, than the first one.
Nintendo’s Wants to Wii on Microsoft’s XBox
Information about the next-gen Nintendo console has been gradually dripping out for a while now and everyone was used to the codename for it – ‘Revolution’ which was a decent enough, if uninspired, name for a console. Excpet they’ve just left themselves open to a huge range of jokes as they’ve just announced that it’s real name is to be Wii. Yep, that’s Wii pronounced like Wee, the slang term for urine.
No further comment other than to say that I’m not sure if I want a Wii on top of my Xbox.
Nmap Demonstrated by Removing Clothes
Most geeks are well versed in nMap and most of them will be aware that it was used by Trinity in the Matrix movie but I hadn’t seen it demonstrated by a girl taking her clothes off before. Unfortunately the video itself isn’t there any more but the screenshots are (NSFW though). More screens here.
For a geek bonus, see the comments below for a list of movies to be shown at a Linux/Unix film club near you soon (very geeky humour!)
Thanks to tigersden for the nMap links and the T&F; crowd for the film titles
This is how we do it in LA
I love the mental image of Ronan Keating looking on in horror from BA’s VIP lounge as Snoop Dogg and entourage smashed up Heathrow Terminal One after not being allowed in.
Boys Beware!
Gosh Darn it – those homosapiens are everywhere! This old US Public Service Announcement from the 50′s is both funny and scary in equal measures, just remember, Boys Beware!
Reader’s Sites
We’re going to do a post soon on sites run by our readers. I get a lot of requests to post reciprocal links by our readers but generally I don’t post them – there’s no offence intended, it’s just that most of the sites don’t fit in with out usual type of links.
In an effort to spread some love around and also let everyone know the type of people who read this site (and currently there are a few thousand of you per day once you tally up all of the people who subscribe to the daily emails and RSS feed!), I’ve decided to do a big post full of reader’s sites so send me your links to the usual address and I’ll gather them together to post next week.
(& thanks for reading – we love you too!)
The Cloud Appreciation Society
This is a repost but to be fair I think it was about 3 yrs ago when we first posted about the Cloud Appreciation Society. I was recently reminded of this wonderful site by Richard, thanks for the mail!
No further explanation of the site is needed – it does exactly what it says it does.
Judge creates own Da Vinci code
I’m breaking my own rules here by posting something about the tediously awful Da Vinci Code. It seems that in the recent case about Dan Brown nicking his ideas (no idea how he got away with it since none of his ideas were remotely original), the judge spent most of the plagarism case creating own Chav-inci code. Which would be more amusing if he’d actually paid attention to the case and found against Mr Brown. I can only assume that he didn’t want to award to the other side either and that his judgment was the lesser of two evils.
Sex Toy or Baby Toy?
Having taken this test and getting a mere 5 out of 15, I think I should stay out of my child’s nursery since I can’t tell the difference between a Sex Toy or a Baby Toy! (this page and answers page is SFW but I wouldn’t go rooting about the rest of the site at work!)
Top 10 Strangest Home Gadgets
There are some cool gadgets on this Top 10 Strangest Home Gadgets roundup – I particularly like the cd lamp.
The $100 XP Trick
The title, The $100 XP Trick refers to a bet on a forum that you could get 3d Pinball or Minesweeper running on a computer whilst installing Windows XP. It’s actually very simple indeed and probably a god-send to sysadmins and support people who have to spend hours of their lives watching machines install again and again – now you can do something more (or less) productive with the time that would normally be spent watching a timer on the screen.
Escher Impossible Waterfall Illusion
Beautiful ‘working’ model of the famous Impossible Waterfall Illusion by Escher. The best bit with this one is that, not only does it show water flowing but it also shows how it’s done afterwards. Here’s the original drawing and we did post a lego version a couple of years ago (proper site is this one but seems to have permeanently exceeded its bandwidth.).
The Beerbelly
Men! Now you have an excuse for carrying a few extra lbs around your waist with the new Beerbelly. Fill it with beer, wear a loose fitting top and turn up to work with a brand-new six-pack – perfect for the world cup season.
Controversial ads top 10
Here are the Top 10 most complained about recent commercials on British television. The one good thing this shows is that some taste is shown since the godawful Crazy Frog advert complaints were upheld.
Nice cup of tea
Cuppa is an OS Mitten application that will hopefully stop me having to drink toxic sludge after forgetting to remove the green teabag from my cup. Does anybody here drink Pasta tea or is this a windup?
UVTattoos
I’m not going to comment on this much – I’ll leave that to our many inked-up readers but some of these UV Blacklight Tattoos seem quite cool in a ‘yeah, but they’ll look rubbish in 20 years from now’ kind of way.
Breaking the Ice Barrier
Silly little game which gives me an disproportionate amount of fun. Click the mouse at just the right time to break the ice walls or just repeatedly send your man face first into the wall – I find the second choice much more comical.
Glossary of Yorkshire Medical Terms
This is superb – it’s a real Glossary of Medical Terms for doctors working in Yorkshire who don’t have English as a first language. Keep it handy for those times when ‘Barnsley’s playing at home’, you have fishdocks on your honda or toot babby is roaring. I live in Yorkshire but most of these are new to me too.
Lily Allen – LDN
I’ve been loving the track ‘LDN’ by Lily Allen for the past few weeks when they’ve been playing it on 6Music (the absolute best radio station ever and all available online wherever you are in the world). It’s a very jaunty, pop tune with a fantastic ska break. I only found out today that Lily is actually chief-mong Keith Allen‘s daughter but I won’t let that stop my love of this marvellous summer tune.
Vitamin – A resource for web developers & designers
It’s been mooted for a while now but Vitamin is finally live – it’s a great resource for web dev and designers. If that’s you then go and have a look – if that’s not you then I wouldn’t bother, it will just make your eyes roll to the back of your head with the amount of mentions of Ajax and web 2.0.
Precision Driving
BAck in the 80′s Computer graphics were too expensive for most companies to use so things were still done by hand – check out the precision driving demonstrated in these Isuzu adverts from back then – all the driving is real stuntwork and is outstanding. I’m not sure, however, of the benefit of advertising that your car seems to like to drive on 2 wheels most of the time!
A Tour of Microsoft’s Mac Lab
I wish Blogger made use of tags – that way I could tag this post as ironic. David Weiss is a Microsoft employee who writes an interesting blog that I’ve visited a few times now – he just put a write-up of a virtual tour of Microsoft’s Mac Lab which is well worth a look for mitten-wearers. I’m particularly impressed with the 64 Mac Minis connected to one keyboard, mouse and a 30″ screen – geek heaven indeed.
Orangutwang
Orangutwang – good game, great name.
Abscess of Infernal Decay
Some FOAFs have put together a spoof Death Metal band a while back called Abscess of Infernal Decay which was an amusing joke for a while but of limited appeal until they stuck up their own myspace page a week or so ago. Unitl yesterday they only had a few friends who mostly got the joke but checking on it today, the band seem to have attracted the attention of a ‘certain type’ of female. I’m seriously impressed but also worried at the level of quality control these poeple have.
Webtard t-shirt
I think I need this Webtard t-shirt.
