Apple’s Minority Report touch screen monitor
Check out this beautiful demonstration of a Multi touch screen patented by Apple – it’s straight out of minority report and completely redefines how we interface with computers – I seriously think that this kind of technology will be the biggest change in computing since the internet became ubiquitous. Imagine how different creating music, video and 3d modelling will be if you used this.
Dungeon Escape!
Enjoy this sweet low-budget Dragons Lair type game, Dungeon Escape!
Nailed it!
There’s a distinct nail theme to this post. First up is the news story of the Russian man who you have to respect for managing to drink some much that he can’t remember how a 10-cm nail got in his head.
Then there was the story last week about vaguely creepy ex-Games Master TV presenter Dominik Diamond not being crucified for a tv show he was working on. I know the feeling – I’m grateful every day that I’m not crucified at work.
LOOK AT ME BEING SERIOUS!
Serious sense of humour failure in this video – this guy probably ranks just under Pol Pot as an enjoyable boss to work for.
“You used the air that costs money?!?”
Marc Ecko on Tagging Air Force One
I like things that are both amusing and thought-provoking and Marc Ecko’s tagging of Air Force One (the US presidential plane/mobile warroom) is certainly that. Watch the video of him tagging the plane then listen to him talk about why he did it.
cheers Scutler
*Update*Turns out that this is a hoax and Ecko really is a spoilt rich kid idiot as the many people who emailed me have pointed out.
Silvio Berlusconi – typical Italian?
Recently freed from his responsibilities as Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi gets used to life as a normal Italian.
Cheers Chris
XBMC Fox – Firefox Extension for XBox
Here’s a really cool idea for readers with chipped/modified XBoxs – XBMC Fox is a – Firefox Extension that allows you to send media URLs to XBMC so if you see something online that you want to play on your xbox (movies, pop video, mp3 etc then just right-click in Firefox and send to your xbox to watch it on your tv. Neat.
New Linux Gaming Live DVD
If you’re used to knoppix or other live dvds then you may want to check out SuperGamer-1, a Linux live dvd packed full of games ready to play. Very handy for train journeys or nights in boring hotels, just stick the dvd in your drive and boot up straight to the dvd and jump in to frag away.
Glasto Posho
I’m still upset that there isn’t a Glastonbury festival this year since mrs grom and I really wanted to take go with our young kid. We’ve never stayed in the camping fields with the commoners before and we’re not going to start now with very young children (we’ve always managed to blag in with stallholders or bands in the past) but mrs grom just found a alternative – the VIP Luxury Accomodation of Camp Kerala – it’s a farmer whose fields adjoin Michael Eavis’ but check this out – it’s £6,000 for the weekend (and I think you have to buy your own tickets in on top!). That’s $10,000 to stay in a tent for the weekend – do you get your own supermodel letting you snort colombian marching powder from her thighs for that money? Not exactly the Glastonbury Festival ethos really is it?
Flickr Toys
We’ve already posted many Flickr Toys in the past but this is a nice collection of very good inspirational tools. I also like using Flickr’s Interestingness feature (users tag some of the best/most interesting images posted to this pool which is always a fascinating pool to visit) but FlickrLeech goes one step further and allows you to search the Interestingness tag by date – go click on it and pick any date and be amazed by the quality of the images – I’m going to go make some desktop backgrounds made of mosaics of some random days.
The Happy Couple
Ahh – what a Sweet Couple. At least they’ve got each other.
cheers Steve
Anti-pest Doorbell
I love the idea of this Anti-pest Doorbell to discourage Jehovah’s Witnesses and other unwanted callers. It’s dead simple, you have to insert money into the doorbell before it will ring – if the people are friends then you can give them the money back, if it’s an unsolicited caller then you keep the money.
DIY TicTac flashlight
Nice simple DIY project for you to make this Holiday weekend (in the UK) – an LED TicTac flashlight.

More New 30 Second Bunny Movies
The Angry Alien team should need no introduction by now, just head over to Angry Alien and catch up on the new movies including Brokeback Mountain, King Kong and both beeped and unbeeped versions of Reservoir Dogs (unbeeped is much funnier) as usual all are performed in 30 seconds, by bunnies.
TinyKISS vs MiniKISS
It’s a crazy world sometimes. I thought the idea of one pint-sized KISS tribute band was funny on its own but now I hear that there’s some kind of midget rivalry going on between two (!) mini KISS tribute bands.
Clerks 2
Not sure of the UK date but August 18th is the US release date for Clerks 2. Not that I’ve been waiting a decade for Kevin ‘Godlike/childlike genius’ Smith to film this or anything. All the usual suspects are in it – Jay, Silent Bob, Dante, even Jason Lee who seems to have taken a weekend off from filming ‘My Name is Earl’ to do his bit judging by his moustache.
The door that is like Star Trek but better
The classic Star Trek door that opens when you approach it is now commonplace is shops but I’m quite taken by this prototype High-Tech Door. To see the full effect, check out the (real-player) video (especially the funny bit at the end where it doesn’t quite work and almost garrotes the guy).
ACME Mapper
Ooh, now – this is good. I use Google Maps a lot but there are certain annoyances like the lack of ability to put markers on the map or the way that you can’t see the maps in as big a window as you’d like. ACME Mapper 2.0 adds this functionality and more (want topographical maps instead of street maps – it’s there too (although USA only at the moment)). One of the best features is the simplest – a crosshair to show exactly what you’re centred on.
Web Click Psychology
Interesting experiment in web click psychology. Can’t say anymore without skewing the results – just go have a look – there’s no trick involved or ghost screaming at you (if you’re one of those sceptical people).
Google Calendar Launches
After a long wait from when it first surfaced, Google Calendar has just launched. It’s an online calendar (similar to Outlook’s calendar function) but obviously isn’t tieed down to any particular computer so you can access it on any machine with internet access. I’m going to test it out with the usual range of odd browsers (the PSP built-in one or mobile phones) but if it’s like most other Google sites then it should work fine, which is one reason I like Google’s products despite the whole China issue.
Simply Google
Simply Google is, quite simply, a simple de-googlized version of Google. Ah, just go and have a look and bookmark it if you think it’s any good. Personally I’d like a localised version of this so I could use the UK versions of maps, froogle etc but keep the .com version of the main search and news pages. Another good idea would be a link to the Google Cheatsheet which I couldn’t see (might have just missed it though). All in all, not a bad idea – can’t wait for version2.
The Love/Hate T-Shirt
This superb example of typography on a t-shirt is all over the web at the moment but I love it. Simple but clever (like me)
Geek Humour
Micorsoft are due to release their new version of Internet Explorer soon. It’s going to be IE version 7 but typically, geek humour prevails, check out IE7.com. They’ve got a point though.
How to conduct an interview with sensitivity and tact
I think this is quite old now but I’ve not had a monitor-splattering moment quite like the one that this video caused for quite a while now.
The backstory is that the guy being interviewed had apparently had his crown jewels/wedding tackle/outdoor plumbing/insert your own euphemism here removed by mistake during an operation. It’s a lesson in how to conduct an interview with sensitivity and tact. Direct link to the video
Popurls
If you’re an information junkie like me then you might like to check out popurls – it’s a great, simple webpage which aggregates the RSS feeds from most of the main ‘web buzz’ sites (like digg, del.icio.us, reddit etc). It makes a good start page but I’d like the ability to customize it to add in more sites (like pri.me.uk for example ;o) )and you will benefit from changing the colour scheme and expanding the amount of links shown but good effort nonetheless.
P1mp My Snack
Ever wanted to try a monster Wagon Wheel, Jaffa cake or other piece of gigantic sugary goodness? You might want to head over to P1mp My Snack for some mouth-watering inspiration. The 2lb wagon wheel looks particularly desirable.

Stop! Bullet Time
Bullet Time is a 2 minute lunchtime reflex testing game – just click the mousethe dodge the bullet – I got level 10 on my first go but can’t beat that (without cheating anyway).
Omni-Directional Forklifts
This one should appeal to Solomon since I know he’s been hiding the fact the he has a fork-lift driving license – how cool is the Airtrax Omni-directional Forklift – they’ve even managed to reinvent the wheel!
