Ofcom rethinks ban on iPod gadget

Not exactly the fastest reacting quango on the block, Ofcom have finally hinted that they are rethinking the ban on FM transmitters and other low power radio devices in the UK. Don’t expect anything other than very low pwer devices to be covered, remember, this is the law that makes pirate radio illegal (not necessarily a bad thing, most muppets who run those stations wouldn’t what an emergency broadcast frequency is).

Tattyworld

I’ve just discovered Tattyworld which I know some of our readers will love. It’s halfway between B3ta and Worth 1000 in the photoshop stakes.

Suckadelic’s SuperVillians

One of my favourite t-shirts is a bootleg one bought in a dingy market in Belfast for £5 which has a picture of a pink Storm Trooper on it. Now I’ve found that Suckadelic makes bootleg action figures inclduing a pink, gay storm trooper. It’s extremely camp but I love it.

Poker Trojan is new twist on old scam

Techdirt have more information on the recent discovery of a trojan embedded in a poker application – the hackers benefit by using the rootkit to run an old scam but in a very modern way.

Mesmerising new FatBoy Slim Video

Always someone up for trying new things in his videos, Fatboy Slim’s new video (scroll down on the myspace page) features comedian/juggler Chris Bliss juggling in time to the music – it’s as mesmerising as the video of his juggling that we posted a few weeks ago.

I hadn’t been onto the Is This You? website for a while so I was pleasantly surprised to see that several people have been found.

Seamless pictures

There’s something beautiful and, I think, a bit naive, about these Seamless pictures – I think they’re all the work of Rob Gonsalves.

Hey Hey 16k

The Hey Hey 16k is spot on lyrically (musically is another matter though) – it should bring back many happy memories if you’re a 30-something geek like myself.

If only I’d known sooner! According to 94 yr old Huang Chunyi, the secret to long life is looking at beautiful women. Does that mean I’m going to be immortal?

gromblog Subscriptions

I’ve just heard that one of the services that we use to allow people to receive gromblog by email is going to close. Bloglet is going to be no more but they’ve setup a deal with another company called FeedBlitz which has allowed me to import the hundred or so readers who subscribed to Bloglet over to Feedblitz so don’t worry if the daily mailout looks different from now on. Of course you can still subscribe or unsubscribe as you wish – you have the choice of using the new FeedBlitz service (let me know if you have any issues with it – it’s new to me too) or you can use the alternative FeedBurner mailshot – See the right hand sidebar for both options.

I could watch this for hours – it’s strangely hypnotic – I just realised that I had this screen open for more than 5 minutes with headphones on without noticing the time pass – try it and you’ll see what I mean.

NB: Don’t be put off by the intro, keep watching the whole way through, it’s worth it.

Rare deleted Star Wars scene: ‘Biggs Return’

I’m obviously not the Star Wars nerd that I thought I was – I thought this Biggs Darklighter scene was a spoof, not a rare, delted scene from the original movie – shows what I know – just google Biggs Darklighter on google and see for yourselves.

647 names for Mary-Jane/Bud/Dope/hash/…

If there’s one thing stoners are good for it’s… erm, I’ve forgotten. Wow, that’s a cool cloud formation, doesn’t it look like a polar bear?
Sorry – where was I? Stoners like ruminating onthe important things in life, like renaming their favourite herb again and again in the vain hope that the ‘Man’ won’t know what they’re talking about. Except that ‘the Man’ keeps an official list of all 647 ‘Street Terms‘ for weeb/cheba/doobie/blow/etc.
You can buy the poster here if you’re a 14 yr old boy who thinks it will offend his Mom, everyone else can just read some of the names and imagine the scene when you go round to your dealer’s house and he offers you some ‘Macaroni and Cheese’ – pasta-related guffaws all-round, I’m sure.

Sickipedia

I’ve had some mails recently saying that we have been too geeky in our recent posts and asking if we could post soem more, erm, shall we say, ‘fun’ posts. Never one to disappoint our readers, head over to Sickipedia – the wiki for sick jokes (and trust me, I do mean sick ones – these are NOT pc and hopefully will offend everyone at least once). You can even submit your own.

StreetWars

StreetWars is a 3 week long 24/7 live-action water-pistol assassination challenge. You stalk (quite literally, judging from the videos) your target and squirt them with a waterpistol – sounds simple but check out the lengths that these guys go to. Not sure which side of the fine line between it being cool and scarily full of freaks it is but it’s interesting to watch nonetheless. Most interesting for UK readers is that the next game is in July in London and they’re looking for people to take part – it’ll be interesting to see how they cope with the new ‘secure, terrorist-proof’ city (ha!).

5minutesaway is a useful site to bookmark if you travel a lot in the UK – you can search on the site for facilities (fuel, auto spares, hotels) or entertainment (restaurants, cinemas, takeaways) that are less than 5 minutes away from the major motorways.

Fat Fingers

Fat Fingers is a great idea and one that I almost didn’t post for fear of sharing it with too many people. If you’re an eBay addict after some bargains then go to the site and type in an eBay search and it will search for you using multiple typos/misspellings – a great way to pick up a bargain that no-ones else is bidding on.
