Player Haters

There really should be a way to knight non-UK people. My first nomination would have to be Jon Stewart from the Daily Show. You can watch it on Comedy Central in the US or on More4 in the UK. Just check out the superb section on violent video games. I don’t know of anyone else who so consistently cuts throgh the cr4p of politics.

USB Teddy

Is a great way to keep data safe from your kids. How? apparently children find it disturbing when you pull off his head to plug him in – nice.

Pac Man – the insatiable hunger

Pac Man’s pill popping habit has turned him into a wife beating alcoholic deadbeat. Videogame theatre documents his demise.

Longest animated gif ever?

After 5 minutes I’m still not at the end of this little animation of a person trying to open a door.
(oh drat, I was so busy typing this that I missed the ending – someone tell me what happened although I think I can guess that either he opened the door or he dies).

Optical Ilusion

Stare at the middle of the video clip for a bit and everything will go really wobbly. If you think it’s a trick, play the clip again and don’t watch whilst the wibbly thing is spinning and just look at the image at the end… or look at the wibbly thing and then look at your hand afterwards (it’s quite a freaky effect if you do the latter). And don’t worry, nothing with fangs is suddenly about to leap out at you going “AArgrgrgrhhhh!!”

If youhave nothing better to do with your time then why not watch rubbish get deleted in real-time from wikipedia. Strangely fascinating and depressing.

BumpTop 3D Desktop Prototype

I like the idea of this desktop manager. The BumpTop 3D Desktop Prototype looks quite natural to use and probably quite useful for someone used to extremely messy desks (it’s my own patented filing system, honest!).
cheers Mark

How to earn the respect of your fans

I though this guy’s application for a football managers job with Middlesborough was really funny but what makes it is the excellent response at the bottom of the page from the club’s chairman.

ZX worlds smallest bicycle

There are some things in life that just don’t add up. For instance, today I’m wondering how Alan Sugar created an empire from producing crap computers, whilst Clive Sinclair destroyed his successful computer empire by continuing to design crap transportation concepts.

Burn baby burn

I recently spent a really interesting weekend copying 9 years worth of CDR data to an external harddrive before it self destructed. What actually is the point of CDRs is now they only have an average life expectancy of two years?

Gabba Gabba Hey!

There has to be something inherently oxymoronic about Gabba Gabba Hey! – the Ramones-based punk musical. They even boast 18 songs in 60 mins but any Ramones fans will be disturbed by how few songs that means they’ve crammed in. Still, bet it’s a bit of a giggle – even Tommy Ramone guest-appears in it along with Angie Bowie, Tony James and Hugh Cornwell.

Re-animating Marlon Brando

Here’s a very funky video showing how they used old footage from the 1978 Superman movie to re-animate (quite literally) the now dead Marlon Brando’s role as Jor-El in the new Superman Returns movie.

The Light Pick

Discussion point: The Light Pick – pointless or actually not a bad idea. Do you really need a metronome with flashing leds in your guitar picks? I’m waiting for the first lawsuit from someone in the crowd at a gig who gets blinded by the guitarist throwing one of these into the audience.

THE GREAT UK PETROL REVOLT

I got sent an e-mail this morning and usually I ignore stuff like this but I thought I’d pass this one on; it’s about petrol prices in the UK and just how stupid they are. You might have received this e-mail yourselves, you might not… and maybe there’s something we can do about it… maybe there isn’t… but surely it’s worth trying? Instead of pasting the whole email here here I thought I’d make it pretty, W3C valid and stick it on t’web. Clicky please => THE GREAT UK PETROL REVOLT. Right on comrade!

Frank Zappa & John Belushi

Another fantastic reader submission (you guys & gals rock!). This one is something I never thought I’d get to see – Frank Zappa and John Belushi playing together on Saturday Night Live back in 1976. Yes, it’s jazz but it’s Zappa and therefore pure genius.
To quote from the email I was sent;
Things to watch for:
The drummer (Terry Bozzio) who has an uncanny resemblance to Animal from The Muppets.
Frank Zappa in a tight pink T.
The sexy xylophonist. How often do you get to use ‘sexy’ and ‘xylophonist’ together?
thanks Kim!

Bioengineered Buddies!

Mass produced, bio-engineered pets might not be to everyone’s taste but you can’t deny the presentation and design is great.
(This isn’t real btw – took a while to track down but it’s an art project by talented sculptor Adam Brandejs)

Batman Onomatopoeias

Some days I just love opening my email as I know that every now and again I’ll be sent something brilliant by our readers (actually, everything you all send is brilliant). I’m truly grateful for ebing pointed to the Batman Onomatopoeias. You know the kind of ‘Biff!’ ‘Bang!’ ‘Pow!’ and even ‘Clange!’ that used to flash up onscreen during the fight scenes. I even love the word onomatopoeia so it’s a double bonus.
Al, you’re a gent – I even think I’ll make a collage of these for my next grompilation cd

Fanatics

There’s this game, right… called phutbull… or something like that, and lots of people like it… well there’s no accounting for taste, is there? Anyway, some people like it so much they dress up in various national colours and make patriotic fools of themselves. Strange pastime… smashing photography (with the occasional pretty lady dotted around for good measure)

The Duke Nukem Forever List

Just in case you hadn’t noticed how long it was taking for Duke Nukem Forever to be released, here’s the The Duke Nukem Forever List detialing many things that have happened in the years since the last DN game.
(perhaps the most telling thing is that these days you have to explain to many youngsters exactly what Duke Nukem is/was – imagine having to explain to someone what Doom or Half Life is!)

Folding Shirt

A while ago JC posted a video of a t-shirt folding device. The video went into exquisite detail about how to craft this thing out of carefully measured and cut rectangles of cardboard neatly held together with gaffer tape. Sorry mate, but I’m going one better! From the creators of origami, the original Ninja Folders themselves, armed with nothing more than lethal foldy fingers, behold the 3-second t-shirt folding sensei. (This is so neat it’s almost poetic… and I bet you will all learn how to do this! I got it sussed in about 30 seconds and it will stay with me for life!)
