MicrowaveCam.com
More microwave joy than you can point a transducer at. MicrowaveCam.com. I’m particularly keen on the bar of soap.
T-shirt round-up
Every now and again I like to do a t-shirt post since I’m such an addict for them. So here goes;
Go Ape Shirts have some cool new designs in – I’m loving the ‘Eliot’s New Friend’ ET Vs Aliens mash-up and the ‘Boo Boo Walker’ however if I only had to get one Star Wars tee then I’d rather have one of Eelus’ Shat-at or Chewbarber shirts (in fact I already have some Eelus stuff on order).
I’ve just got one of the new BoingBoing/Feed Your Head shirts from Imaginary Foundation which is very good quality and very Terry Gilliam in design.
I’ve mentioned them before but I still like the subversiveness of Wrong Clothes designs but I don’t think there have been any new designs for a while (I think one of our readers might be able to correct me on that- hint hint)
I really do like Barking Irons tees but the prices are still way too high thanks to their popularity in the USA and it looks to me like they might have changed shirt supplier as the new ones don’t have look to have the same worn-in feel as the last range (I might be wrong on this). Mind you, they’re no way as expensive as my ex-favourite shop, BAthing Ape which is just ridiculous for prices and have disappeared up their own ar5e with their pathetic exclusivity demands (some shops will only allow you to buy one of each style and it has to be your size – supposedly to stop you selling the clothes for a profit).
Finally if you want good designs and a (albeit slow) friendly service then I can recommend ZeroBoutique – as worn by most of the Suicidegirls (and me).
Readers recommendations most welcomed.
The Babykeeper
What kind of warped mind would think that the Babykeeper was a good idea? It’s a baby carrier designed to allow you to hang your baby (between 6-18 months) on the door of the toilet cubicle. Yep, that’s right, I said ‘hang your baby on the toilet door’. This gets a well deserved OMGWTFBBQ from me.
Frank Zappa: Statement To Congress September 19, 1985
No reason to re-publicise this Statement To Congress that Frank Zappa made in 1985 at the height of the PMRC witchhunt led by Tipper Gore, wife of Al Gore (who I’m baffled to find is now supposed to be a good guy but I guess compared to Dubya, anyone can fill the good guys shoes – it’s all relative). Well, I say no reason, except that it’s still highly relevant and intelligent – I wish more people who come forward as figureheads for free speech and tolerance.
And if you can’t trust a man who has spiders, jellyfish, molluscs, fish, asteroids, microbes, motherboards and streets all named after him then who can you trust?
Lifelike statues
I’ve seen these extraordinarily lifelike statues in magazines before but only as close-ups without anything to indicate scale and I hadn’t realised that many of them are huge and some are very small. They’re by the Australian sculptor Ron Mueck who I believe did work years ago on the movie Labyrinth. The sculptures are absolutely outstanding but due to the faithful reproduction of naked bodies as works of art I unfortunately have to mention that this could be NSFW.
Chumby – your hackable friend
My friend Imran is currently at elite, invite-only geek-fest Foo Camp and I’ve been trying to catch up on what he’s reported this year. (Foo Camp is where you are likely to hear about future Amazon, YouTube, Googles etc whilst they’re still in their infancy/back of a cigarette packet stage).
The first very cool looking thing he’s mentioned is Chumby. A gizmo that’s designed to be hackable – kind of the anti-iPod in that respect. Check out some of the first posts about this funky gizmo. Not only can you hack the software and the hardware, they also want people to design ‘clothes’ for it’s exterior. I bet the guys at Make Zine are wetting themselves already.
Making the Hatemongers pay
Pranking – that finest tradition and non-violent way of screwing the system or those extremists who cannot have a rational discussions with people they disagree with. Take part in some inspired pranking by costing one particularly dispicable bunch of hate-mongers a whole bunch of cash. I love the idea that people are ordering these things for free and then selling them on eBay although strictly speaking I’d be much more comfortable donating profits to non-denominational, partisan charities.
Go on – give it a try and cost them some cash.
The Interactive Jackson Pollock
Cool interactive Jackson Pollock image maker – click to change colour. good for cd cover backgrounds if you’re lacking some inspiration.
A Very Different Clothing Catalogue
Hmm, ShaiWear clothing company has an, ahem, unique idea to sell their new range of clothes – the SexPacking Summer 2006 Catalog (NSFW) gives the game away slightly – the very cool interactive catalogue is basically a fully fledged pr0nographic video with the ‘models’ wearing the clothes for sale. I call it cool as the actual interface is very good once you notice it instead of staring at the models and their appendages.
Play too many FPS games?
You know when you’re playing too many FPS (First Person Shooter) games when you start bunny hopping down the street or ducking behind any boxes you see in side streets so that you can reload. Some people have told me they see an arm holding a gun in their field of view too but I wonder if their friends had stuck some of these FPS glasses on them whilst they were asleep.
indie coffee shops
One especially for our US readers and anyone over there on work/hoiday. If you’re sick of bland Starbucks coffee and want something a bit more unique (but not called ‘Central Perk’) then check out indie coffee shops to search for your nearest independent java hut. You get a Google map of the location and you can search by options such as wi-fi, outdoor seating, non-smoking (although I’d have thought a Smoking option might be more use these days). Nice, simple idea, well executed.
Extreme Knitting
Not what your gran did: Knitting for Psychos!!
DWISOTDN
A new thing to spot? Does What It Says On The Domain Name. Not an OOTINLTO or, even, a YAUEIW, but when Googling(TM) “microwave corn on the cob” I got MicrowaveCornOnTheCob – and very tasty it was too.
Extreme Wheelchair
This guy doesn’t let a wheelchair stop him from (to use the vernacular) “busting some phat moves” including the first ever (probably) landed wheelchair backflip. “Get in there”, “sick” and all that.
Boat moving
OK, so you’ve got a bl00dy great boat and an even bigger bl00dy great dam. You’ve got a problem… the boat wants to get to the other side of the dam. What do you do? Any ideas? No? Why not build an even bl00dier bigger still boat-train and winch said small but still huge boat out of the water, up the hillside and dump it in the water at the top? Simple really.
Millions of Bo0bs
Speaking of millions, here’s the Million Boob Webpage – SFW but ultimately pointless but I’m not one to shy away from a theme.
All Peers beta released
We’ve mentioned Allpeers before on this site but it was just vapourware until now. Wired reports that the beta version of this Firefox extension to allow you to easily and safely share files between trusted friends is available to download. I’ve just grabbed the file and will be testing it out over the next few days.
Rainbow Puke
RainbowPuke.com – A happy place for sad rainbows. A site for images of rainbows spewing multi-coloured vomit. Nice.
Interactive City Projections
Painting the city with moving images – or drive-by animal projections. Great idea.
Happy Birthday Blogger
Blogger.com is 7. Happy Birthday.
Macc Lads on YouTube
*sigh* Those were the days, as a spotty teenager thinking the MAcc Lads were the best band ever. Watching this old news report just made me laugh out loud. They were talentless, loud, obnoxious but funny as fcuk and everything a punk band should be.
/me goes off to dig out Sweaty Betty (d/load of album from this link)
Early 80’s Pirate Computers
Another one for JC to rub his thighs over here. In the early 80′s this chap, Pete Perkins, used to build Apple and IBM copies which were twice as powerful and helf the price. And he didn’t even get his ar5e sued off. Early 80’s Pirate Computers
Game theme tunes on instruments
On YahoogleTubeVideos there are approximately 13 schmillion clips of people playing various video game theme tunes on instruments (mainly the Tetris theme tune, mainly on the piano and mainly very badly indeed). Now, I know JC has been seen to rub his thighs in time to the odd ukulele tune so just for him here’s a rather good example of a theme tune played by a video star wannabe… Zelda on Ukulele. And for dessert here’s Jean Bourdin playing a hugely expensive scaff plank to the tune of Mario.
Internet Soul Portraits
What do you think a website looks like naked? Strip the text away from some of the interweb’s most popular sites and they look pretty much like this.
Play Classic boardgames online for free
I love boardgames but rarely have anyone who has the time to play them with me. Imagine how chuffed (that’s happy to non-northern UK people) I was to find that Atari have put loads of them online including Monopoly, Yahtzee, Scrabble, Boggle. (Obviously they’re all multiplayer too – bit pointless otherwise!)
Gmail Has An Audio Player
Bet you didn’t know that Gmail Has An Audio Player built in now. So if someone sends you an email with an mp3 attached, you can play it straight away in gmail withoutany hassle. Now combine this with the much vaunted GDrive (come one, come on Google, don’t keep me waiting!)you might eventually have a decent truly portable mp3 share/player.
Socialmeter
Socialmeter is YAWTO app (Yet Another Web Two Point Oh) that handily allows you to see how many ‘social networking sites link to you – here’s the socialmeter report for us.
