George Bush singing “Sunday Bloody Sunday”

Another good video mash-up – George Bush singing “Sunday Bloody Sunday”.
How long must we sing this song indeed.

Game Over

PES is a very talented animator and all nerds will appreciate his Game Over short which recreates classic video games with household objects using the original sounds from the games. Clever stuff.

Stunning Star Wars artwork

OK, so the title won’t sell this post to non-Star WArs fans but anyone who appreciates high quality artwork will love these production frames from Episode 3 – click on each image for hi-res stunning images – check out the top image of Naboo for a goodn example.

BBC World Adverts

I saw some large versions of these cool adverts for BBC World and didn’t know what the point was – it just looked like a map with the countries jumbled about but look at these small versions and you should see the hidden figures a lot easier – Banksy fans will already know the much-overused rioter throwing a molotov cocktail (3rd image). Not sure if the adverts work if most people can’t see them without an explanation but I still prefer them to most billboards I see every day.

Fun with the AOL data leak

I’m not going to go into the details about the recent AOL data leak here – you only need to know that they accidently released search data of over half a million cutomers which wasn’t anonymised enough. The goons over at Something Awful have been having some fun looking through the results with hilarious results – each section is a collection of search queries from a different user and lead to an amusing but disturbing insight into the typical AOL user’s brain (I know that’s an oxymoron!).
Part 2 is here.

Obadiah Parker – “Hey Ya” (Outkast Cover)

Lovely cover version of Outkast’s “Hey Ya” by Mat Weddle of Obadiah Parker. In honour of me getting hold of Outkast’s new ‘Idlewild’ album today – sounding very good so far – they’re still the closest thing to Funkadelic for the modern age.

Writely, the Googlely Wordly Processorly

Google are one step closer to world domination with the release of their online collaborative word processor – Writely. The name sucks and in case you hadn’t guessed, it’s still in beta but otherwise it looks good.

Rollerblading in an Abandoned Water Park

I can’t believe that I’m jealous of a bunch of rollerbladers – in my opinion it’s skateboarding’s trailer-trash relation – but being let loose in an Abandoned Water Park does look really good fun.

Professionalism at Leeds United

Living in Yorkshire, I’m well used to straight talking but I still never expected to see a phrase like Ken Bates’ comment in a press release.
(and yes, it is a steal from Derek and Clive’s Jump song (lyrics NSFW)).

Dapper: The Data Mapper

Dapper is a very intriguing project which, I think, has a lot of potential. It’s a simple service that allows you to create your own custom API’s for virtually any website. (Non-geeks can look away now). Using a simple GUI, you can extract data from sites and twiddle with it as you please. Techcrunch have a decent write-up of it which explains it better than I can. If you do any form of webdev then you should take a quick look at it.

Tear it Up

In honour of the Cramps playing their first UK gig in 3 yrs, here’s an old video of them performing Tear It Up. I once worked as front of house security for a Cramps gig and spent most of the gig with Lux Interior teetering above me on top of a massive stack of speakers in high heels (him, not me!). I’ve never feared for my life so much during a gig – he also kept flashing his little friend to me between songs which was, erm distracting!
thanks Kim

Unusal choice of product shot

If you need to keep your murder victims nice and toasty you could buy one of these underfloor heating kits from this polished stone flooring manufacturer. They demonstrate this unconventional use by illustrating this product with what a appears to be a corpse lying on the floor. Notice this is not the only unusual choice of imagery on this page – I particularly like the onions in the ‘Polished Stone’ header image!

Google Maps + Google Video + Mashup – Claude Lelouch’s Rendezvous

“On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.”
