Moo Cards

I don’t usually link directly to BoingBoing but I wanted to highlight their post about Moo Cards – mini business cards made from your Flickr images. Flickr Pro users can get 10 free cards as an opening offer – I’m ordering my test batch right now.

Male Restroom Etiquette

I think most people have are aware of Male Restroom Etiquette, indeed we’ve posted demonstrations here before but I particularly liked this version made with Sims2.

Unorthodox Taxidermy by Dr Seuss

I hadn’t realised that Dr Seuss didn’t just write children’s books – he also made the move into 3d models and you can still buy examples of his Unorthodox Taxidermy (albeit at a high price).
Bonus trivia – lots of people know that Green Eggs and Ham uses only 50 words (apparently this was the result of a bet with Dr Seuss’ publisher) but only one word is polysyllabic (‘anywhere’).

Salt Shaker and Coin Through Table Revealed!

Much like Penn and Teller, I love magic and am equally obsessed with the explanation as much as the trick itself – the sheer amount of effort needed to make something look real is often awesome – check out the effort needed to pass off the Salt Shaker and Coin Through Table trick. Dig around this guys site for many more explanations.

Meat, a short film about Cannibals

Meat, a short film about Cannibals in Park Slope, Brooklyn is very odd but highly watchable – it’s 15-odd mins of straight-playing but funny, good movie-making from 1997 and there is something about Leah Foster who plays the lead that impressed me.

Catepillar Infestation in Sweden

I don’t know when these photos were taken but blimey! That’s one helluva lotta caterpillars. Two things spring to mind – Firstly, I wouldn’t want that bike back afterwards and secondly, at least the swarms of butterflies will look quite pretty (unless they’re moths in which case I’d suggest the residents don’t leave their lights on after dark!).
*Edit* according to this page they are moths and it was in 2005 – that’ll teach me to post before RTFA

Geeks vs Girls

If you’ve ever worked in IT then you’ll sympathise with the geek in this clip from the Dutch version of ‘Beauty and the Geek‘. (but then if you’ve never worked in IT, you might sympathise more with the girl although if you managed to surf to this site, I’m guessing you’re more of the former)
thanks Ergo

Nacho Gravitas – grompilation download

Finally finished the new grompilation cd. You can download it for free from http://rapidshare.de/files/33545420/Nacho_Gravitas_grompilation.rar.html.
It’s a rar file and contains the cover artwork in one tidy package. Please feel free to grab it, tell your mates and send me any feedback, good or bad. If anyone’s interested in the other 20 or so grompilations then let me know and I’ll upload them too.
*Edit* Just for Dan P – here’s the Megaupload link too.

New grompilation almost ready

Those who have known me for a long time will be well aware of the numerous ‘grompilation’ cds that I inflict upon anyone crossing my path. I have a slight issue in that they’ve become too popular for me to keep up with as I now have to burn about 50 copies to mail all over the world each time. Just can’t afford to keep doing that so I’ll be burning a few copies and uploading the rest for anyone to grab.
See the comments for the provisional tracklist and if anyone’s interested then please leave a comment and/or email me and I’ll gauge whether to publically release the mp3s and artwork or just limit it to people who normally blag one.

A contact of Carloz have just upped some great shots of Banksy’s US show pre opening yesterday. Banksy wasn’t there but a live painted elephant was present in the corner of the room.

Why Johnny can’t code

I was quite speechless when I first saw this essay on Salon called Why Johnny can’t code. It sums up a lot of my feelings about computers these days – quite simply, there is no way for young children to learn the basics of computing or maths with the basic (pun intended) tools.
cheers Imran

Pandora Internet Radio

I’m sure we must have blogged this before but I don’t remember doing so. Besides, it’s such a cool ‘Web2.0′ app that it’s worth blogging again in case you’ve forgotten about it. Pandora Internet Radio – Find New Music, Listen to Free Web Radio – You tell Pandora the sort of thing you would like to listen to and she’ll serve up all types of cool choons you’ve probably never heard of. Unless, of course, you’re JC who knows everything that’s ever been released ever.

GoatsePEG

Bit of geek humour for you here. There’s a well-known geek tool for the Mac called Etherpeg which shows images flowing across a network (in turn based upon Etherpeek – a commercial product which shows data (packets) flowing across a network). Now, some people, quite rightly don’t like the idea that they’re sat in a hotel or conference using the wifi access and someone else is peeking at the images they’re looking at, and so GoatsePEG was born. Every 60 seconds it loads the infamous (and please don’t go looking for it) Goatse.cx image as an image tag (so you don’t have to see it but the person sniffing you does). Revenge is sweet (and rather gross).

Modding an Xbox 360 laptop

From the ‘goddamn, that’s cool but why on earth’ dept:
Ben Heckendorn was commissioned to make an XBox 360 laptop – the cocky git also included watercooling (although looking at the size of the original heatsinks, this was a must). The making-of webpages are very well done and show you a lot of detail and allow you to share his pain in making it. The grand total was around $1200 and I hope his customer was happy.
