Cornelius – new album
Listening to the ever-excellent Phill Jupitus breakfast show on 6Music yesterday (go and have a listen online if you haven’t heard it before) and he mentioned that a Japanese listner had sent him the new Cornelius album. It’s not got a UK release date yet but I’ve just ordered it from Amazon Japan for about £16. The official Cornelius website has loads to play around with (unfortunately the English site is borked but you can get around the Jap site easily enough. I did like the Gorillaz-like interactive website, especially finding hidden links all over the VR pages
little piece of trivia for the nerds and geeks – apparently Cornelius is the second cousin of Joi Ito
Bollards To That
My hometown, Manchester, has a fairly unique way of shutting roads off to vehicles other than buses and other approved vehicles, bollards that raise and lower when ‘approved’ vehicles approach. The trouble is that, despite absolutely loads of signs everywhere warning people, some geniuses still try to get past the (incredibly fast raising) bollards with humourous results (assuming you aren’t caught out by this – I hope the baby in the black car was securely strapped in and was ok).
The Great British Venn Diagram
The Great British Venn Diagram would have helped me win an arguement the other day.
French game
Here’s a fun little game. Balance the big ball whilst pinging the little one. I got 29.6 seconds. Very hard.
Man seeks woman like kebab
‘I like my women the way I like my kebab. Found by surprise after a drunken night out and covered in too much tahini. Before long I’ll have discarded you on the pavement of life, but until then you’re the perfect complement to a perfect evening. Man, 32, rarely produces winning metaphors.’
cheers our kid
I Suspect I may be Preaching to the converted
Especially if Si is back from hols but a friend recommended the Middle Age Shred Skateboarders Site for people with less fear of broken bones (or possibly just thinner) than me.
World’s Most Expensive Cocktails
Wow. The world’s most expensive cocktails really do live up to their titles although I think it’s cheating to include jewels as part of the drink to bump the cost up. Even without the added bling, some of these still make it up to thousands of bucks for a tiny drink, much as I love cocktails, I think I’d rather have 4 decent mojitos and the rest of the money to spend on other things.
Jack Thompson called names by judge – with video
One of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen (especially at the end when everyone’s phones start going off). Jack Thompson, the wacko attorney who keeps launching lawsuits against the gaming industry and most notably backed out of a large donation he promised to charity, had his hearing about his action against the new Rockstar game ‘Bully’videotaped to hilarious effect. It’s not the greatest audio but you’ve gotta love hearing a calm and seemingly fair judge call him “inappropriate, unprofessional, and contemptible” and then say that he “continues to show disrespect for this court”. Classic pwnage!
*UPDATE*Part two including an elevator interview with Jack is here.
Doctors’ Slang
Every trade has it’s own acronyms (my most commonly used one is PICNIC – Problem in chair, not in computer. If you’re going to the doctors, hospital or vets soon then you should brush up on your medical slang and acronyms. I giggled over ‘Throckmorton’s Sign’ more than I probably should have.
Pirates of Silicon Valley-Microsoft steals from Apple
Much like Imran who sent me this link, I’d heard of the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley but never seen it. This clip from it on youtube called Microsoft steals from Apple shows an interesting story with some very hammy acting. I watched it through my fingers.
Advertise on a roadie
As Bill Hicks once said do they have to put a f**king dollar sign on everything? You can even buy adspace on Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s roadies these days.
Sign of the times
Local hackers broke into Crawley’s parking management display system this morning and posted suitably puerile messages to the early morning commuters.
Monster stencil animation
Nice video of the view from a train window passing alongside a huge running tiger(?) skeleton that animates as you travel past it.
Super Hair Mohawk
I’m so impressed that they managed to cut letters out of this Super Hair Mohawk cut even though they did have to resort to using glue. Temporary and a lot of hard work but I didn’t think it could be done so kudos for doing it.
Confidential Google Research on YouTube
Funny little spoof on Google’s research on YouTube prior to buying it – some choice lines in here “I had no idea they were videos, I thought they were pictures” and “I’m a rater, not a creator”.
cheers Ian
Video the Vote 2006
America – your country needs you! Video the vote 2006 is looking for people to go to voting stations and document any repeat of the hideous problems that occurred at the last election. Once edited the footage needs to be posted to youTube as an attempt to protect voters tenuous democratic rights. Even if you don’t live in the US this is a real heartwarming vision of how the internet can be used to expose the evil work of politicians.
The UK doesn’t need to worry, as our next election will be live on Channel 5, hosted by Simon Cowell, Jack Osbourne’s mate and marks the return of Jonathan King to family entertainment. All votes will cost £1 unless mobile carriers decide to steal our children.
Couple of Funny Images
Great expression on this newsreader’s face – can’t blame him really.
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won…
Xbox 360 Premium With Fractel 360 Modchip
I hadn’t realised there was already a modchip out for the XBox 360 – so tempted to get myself an early XMas present, unfortunately my wallet says no.
Demeter Fragrance Library
Shocking site (both in design and technical terms) but fabulous products! These guys seem to be able to bottle just about any airborne scented molecule going and sell it to you! So if you fancy reminiscing to hemp flowers, feeling repulsed at mildew whiff or wish to luxuriate in the scent of grass then this is your place.
News Sniffer – watching the censors
News Sniffer provides a good public service by monitoring news websites for censored comments left by the public and for changes to news articles. Check out the most censored threads from the BBC website for an idea.
My only grumble would be that it’s currently checking the BBC News, Guardian and Independent newspapers, all of which are the most technologically savvy and also generally the most intelligent sites.
The Horrors of Filesharing
Just been sent a link to a very good ‘Reefer MAdness’ style Public Service Announcement on the dangers of Filesharing.
cheers Ian
Chinook Landing on Rickity Hut
I’ve gotta say that when I first saw this incredible image of a Chinook Helicopter landing on an Afghan hut roof was fake but I’ve checked it on Snopes and it seems to be genuine.
cheers Pricey
Penn & Teller:Bullshiat – Conspiracy Theories
Penn & Teller tell it like it is in their excellent Bullsh1t – Conspiracy Theories tv show. If there was some way of voting Penn & Teller and fellow sceptic James Randi to the US presidency then I’d apply for citizenship.
I have one big problem with conspiracy theories – they’re just that, theories – where’s your proof?
Firefox 2.0
Ooh lovely, how about a nice cup of Firefox 2.0?
Lik-Sang.com Out of Business due to Multiple Sony Lawsuits
Shame to see that Lik-Sang.com has been put out of business by the effects of Sony’s numerous lawsuits against it. I bought my PSP as a Japanese import through them and as a result many of my friends bought PSPs when they were finally released over in the UK after seeing mine. Ironically literally 5 mins before reading this news, I hacked my PSP to play homebrew software but I think I’ll go and grab some Sony games to stick on it as well just as I’m in a very bad mood with Sony.
Neil Young :: London, England 2-27-71
Neil Young fans rejoice! Here’s an album from Neil’s archive recorded back in 1971. The concert, taped in London was the first outing for many of the songs that went on to be bona fide classics.
Man buys tank for supermarket run
Since we’re on a tank theme.
UK Blog Search
Not sure who set this up but someone has been testing the new Google Co-op search tool (basically create your own custom search site) by setting up a UK Blog Search based on the old UK Bloggers group. It’s a perfect test for Google Co-op – go and have a try .
