Motivational gaming posters … now with more sarcasm

Talking of fd’ Flickr toys, one we’ve featured in the past is the Motivational poster maker which has been put to good use in this Motivational gaming posters competition.

fd’s Flickr Toys

This doesn’t count as a repeat post – more of an update. fd’s Flickr Toys collection has grown even larger and now features such gizmos as a Warholizer, Hockneyizer, captioner and more slideshow, gallery tools. Bookmark it.

Jammin Johns

If custom toilet seats and/or guitars are your thing then you’ll love Jammin Johns. Me, I can probably manage to live without them. Ithink I’m too worried about the combination of a sound hole being postioned right behind my very own ‘sound-hole’ – the acoustics would be terrible.

SmackBook Pro

If you have a fancy new Mac Book Pro then check out this stunningly simple hack for the motion sensor. The SmackBook Pro uses the built-in gyro that normally is used to shut down the hard drive if the computer senses a jolt (to protect it if it falls) but instead shifts to a new virtual desktop screen if effect giving you multiple monitors on one laptop.
If, you don’t have a MacBook pro but do use multiple machines and monitors then you need to know about Synergy an opensource program that allows you to use one keyboard and mouse across several screens and ‘pooters. It’s utter genius – I can have a Unix machine with monitor next to a windows PC with monitor and the keyboard/mouse is controlled across the network so as the mouse moves off one screen it appears on the next screen (see?).

USB Airsoft Turret

If you get one of those USB foam pellet launchers for Xmas this year and fancy hacking it a bit to make it more’useful’ then check out the USB Airsoft Turret which tweaks the original by adding a BB gun to cause some real damage/welts. Evil.

World’s tallest man saves dolphin

Bizarre news of the day – the World’s tallest man saves dolphin. (Mind you, mrs grom is convinced that either the bunnies or the dolphins are going to take over the world so who’s going to save us from the dolphins then?) (and just in case nobody saves us, I, for one, would like to welcome our new dolphin overlords).

Bruce Potts ROCKS

Bruce Potts is a striking chap. The first thing people do when they see him is to try to strereotype him and make assumptions based on his looks. He’s actually a retired teacher and professor of Public Speaking who very eloquently teaches on the subject of tolerance which is pretty apt when you look at him. I’ve heard him speak and he’s a really nice guy.

Humping USB Dog

Has anyone still not seen the pointless USB humping dog? It’s not even a pen drive, it just humps away. As my friend put it; ” I wish I could have been in the meeting where they took it from an idea, on to a prototype, testing, production, marketing etc. and at no point did anyone say WHY?”.
Indeed.

Flickr Easter Eggs for Xmas

I’ve just come across a nice little easter egg in Flickr which you can see here and here. Simply add a note to an image (anyone’s image!) and type ‘ho ho ho hat’ or ‘ho ho ho beard’ (without the quotes) for the easter eggs to appear.

NORAD (North American Air Defense) will be attempting to track Santa as he makes his deliveries this year. It’s good to see the USA defence budget being spent wisely. I suggest you also pop along and check out one or two of the promotional videos for real Santa footage.

Expanding table

I have a penchant for the peculiar grey area between art and engineering – that strange intradiscipline land where a structure is so beautifully thought out and executed that it starts edging into the realm of fine art and sculpture. For example the work of Hoberman and Heatherwick (yes, I am aware of the irony of bad functionality of these websites!). Anyway, check out this table for cool! Reminds me of the Camberwick Green music box
