Shooby
"Shooby" Taylor according to Wikipedia, is ‘a little bit famous’ for scat singing
. Simply put, this is pure musical genius! Since words fail to do this guy justice you should just go and listen. He’s kind of like getting used to beer when you were 14… a bit strange at first and might make you wince a little, but give it time and patience and you’ll be justly rewarded. Ladies and gentlemen, Shooby. (PS, check out the lyrics!)
Opacity
Opacity.us is a beautiful gallery of old and decaying buildings. Amongst the photography projects are such delights as a disused Stella Artois brewery, a monastry and an Art Deco Belgian tuberculosis clinic. Sweet.
Two new Google Goodies
Two new features/easter eggs I’ve just discovered on Google. Firstly, if you add “&imgtype;=face” to the end of any Image Search – like this, it’ll restrict the results to images of faces which is quite cool (N.B. AFAIK, none of the results actually show me, I’m Google-shy as far as photos go).
Secondly, Google Translate now allows you to do single word translations (like Babelfish always has) – this is far more useful than it sounds and I await the firefox extension with baited breath. It’s limited to a handful of languages so far and some of them are in beta – here’s an example transdation.
Slint play Spiderland
Intelligent music fans will probably want to check out the All Tomorrows Parties website to take note of two cracking gigs coming up – Slint playing Spiderland and Sonic Youth playing Daydream Nation. Which reminds me, I dug out this album the other day and spent the whole afternoon shouting along to ‘Thieves’ at work causing a few odd looks (nothing new there).
OpenCoffee Leeds {Duo} at Loftart (Tuesday, July 3, 2007)
After missing the first OpenCoffee meeting in Leeds and hearing that it was rather successful, I’ll do my best to make OpenCoffee Leeds {Duo} on Tuesday 3rd July even though I have meetings bookending it. If you’re in the area and are even remotely geeky and/or interested in technology or tech-business start-ups (or just like coffee and free wi-fi) then please pop along.
Ten years of daily show inventions
The Daily Show have been covering new products for a long time now and here’s the funny round-up of Ten years of daily show inventions – the Gaydar inventor particularly makes me proud to be British (and confused).
Banned!
It’s official… according to the greatfirewallofchina.org, pri.me.uk is banned in China.
Daft Hands
Ok, so everyone else has already posted this but you know us, if we’re not the first to post a new meme then we resist posting it until our readers flood us with requests so here’s the very complicated Daft Hands – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. One take, lots of blurriness and you have to sit through the intro before it gets going but it’s worth it. A unique idea, done well.
Interesting Job
You can mark puppeteer down as a job I never thought that I’d want to do – until I saw this.
Wikington Crescent
Wikington Crescent is a (kind of) version of Mornington Crescent game for Wikipedia. Don’t ask me to explain the rules – that would be cheating.
Second life in Real Life
If you’ve never visited Second Life then this here’s the Real Life version. It’s funny because it’s true.
How to solve a maze with Photoshop
Very nifty use of photoshop (or any other paint tool) to solve mazes. Simple but effective.
Blade Runner 25 years on
Most movies, especially sci-fi ones, don’t hold up well over time for look and feel/authenticity. Blade Runner certainly has though and on the 25th anniversary of the classic movie, Adam Savage, of MythBusters fame, agrees that ‘there are ways in which Blade Runner surpasses anything that’s been done since‘. Bear in mind that this comment comes from a man who’s worked on the special effects of Star Wars I & II, all the Matrix movies, AI and Terminator 3 (we’ll forgive him for the latter). If you’ve never seen it, go find it, if you have seen it, use this as an excuse to watch it again.
3D persistence of vision bonsai tree
I’ve been toying with building a little POV gizmo – doubt mine would be as good as either the 3D bonsai tree or the stunning bike wheel-based Che POV. You can buy cheap kits from the MAKE:Zine store.
IM In UR Blank Tee
im in ur x y-ing ur z – make ur own tee.
Duck!
St Maarten’s Princess Juliana airport is infamous for it’s short landing strip – here’s what you see if you’re sunbathing on the beach when a 747 lands there.
Vertical Soccer – Impossible Is Nothing
Adidas had an interesting way of living up to their motto of Impossible is Nothing (a very Yoda-ish use of grammatical structure) by inventing Vertical Football (I’d question the over-enthusiastic American newsreader who keep calling it ‘actual real games of soccer’ – for an actual real game, you need things like more players, goals, referees etc).
BBC – Glastonbury 2007 – Video Player
Let’s see, I didn’t go to Glastonbury Festival this year, instead, I sat on my fat behind and watched it on tv, thanks to the BBC’s superb coverage I saw more bands than I would if I’d been there, didn’t get muddy, have to put up with poor live sound in the crowd or sleep in a field. Even better, you can also join in and watch several hundred hours of astounding music on teh BBC – Glastonbury 2007 – Video Player (cued up to Gogol Bordello’s superbly frantic set but also check out Lily Allen’s set for the first time Terry Hall and Lynval Golding from the Specials had been together on stage for 22 yrs – to perform ‘Gangsters’ – oh yes! (You can also see that momentuous occassion here http://youtube.com/watch?v=Uo_OYGLYp7U )
Die Hard by the 30 Second Bunnies
You know the score by now – the Bunnies do movie re-enactments in 30 seconds. New ones include Die Hard and from the home page, you can see March of the Penguins, Pirates of the Caribbean and any others you might have missed before.
I can’t believe I’m posting more Mime!
We posted Johann Lippowitz (David Armand)’s classic interpretive mime of Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn over a year ago (that link’s to the more recent Amnesty show featuring Natalie herself). I wondered if he’s done anything else since – the answer was ‘Yep’, here’s Paul Young’s ‘Wherever I lay my hat’ and Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’. More Karaoke for the Deaf please.
Which Headline Rocks More?
I can’t make my mid up whether You Dropped Your Bible and I Saw Your Thong
is a better headline than
Flushed bra causes sewer collapse .

9 things I learned about the world from stock photos.
Keep Calm and Carry On – redux
I posted about the original Keep Calm and Carry On poster from WWII a while back but now some cheeky people have purloined the design and made some rather nice T-Shirts and tea-towels.
This post is for you, Robert Tourtelot
This post is for you, Robert Tourtelot. (see boingboing for background).
I can’t get enough of incompetent loudmouths on the internet.
Aqua Sphering for Two
Possibly NOT something you’d want to do on a first date.
Star Wars – Behind the Scenes
Some funny and interesting behind the scenes/bloopers/outtakes from teh original Star Wars trilogy.
‘Crazy’ Theremin Cover Version
We’ve made no secret of our love of theremins here at prime towers and this cover version of Gnarls Berkley’s ‘Crazy’ On A Theremin is brilliant. Nice video too.
for more, here’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy and Legend of Zelda.
Musical Tesla Coil
I’m gonna quote directly from Kaye here, “It’s a big f*ck-off electrical arc. It’s playing tunes. Some of which are from games.
Yup, it’s ticking all my geek boxes!”
The wonderful Musical Tesla Coil – enough to make your hair stand on end.
(This also gives me the overdue opportunity to post the Tesla Dalek and the Abandoned Tesla Power Station photos.
Japanese-style Tetris
Despite their love of all things electronic, this human version of Tetris looks far more fun!
Cool Site Speed Tester
I like the way this website speed tester breaks down the results by item – it lets me see that the irrepressible.info link I have is slowing the site down. A useful tool.
