Planet of the Grapes

I know absolutely nothing about these guys other than they have the best name I’ve ever seen for a wine shop – Planet of the Grapes. Almost makes me want to spend money with them out of respect.

FAC 501

Anyone who was around in the Madchester era will be aware of Factory Records rather ‘ahem’ unique Catalogue numbering scheme (FAC 8, FAC 191 & FAC 215/216 were all personal favourites of mine) but you can add FAC 501 to that list – it’s Tony Wilson‘s coffin and funeral. He might have been a complete ar5e but at least he freely acknowledged it (& before anyone slags me off for dissing the dead – I speak from personal experience – he was a complete c0ck but I still have the utmost respect for what he achieved and the size of his ambition.).

Stuck In Customs

Stuck In Customs is the photo blog of a guy who travels a lot (hence the name). He takes a lot of beautiful HDR photos and shares them here. All together now, ‘Ooh, Aah, Gosh, Wow!’

Clowns KKKick KKK ass!

Oh this so rocks. A KKK rally was ruined by clowns who followed every chant of ‘white power’ with ‘white flour?’ ‘wife power’ or ‘white flowers’ whilst throwing bags of flour, white flowers etc in the air until the Nazis gave up and slunk off. Almost as good as this from last week.

Ingenious Tattoo Designs

Please note, the use of the word ingenious wasn’t mine, I’ve seen most of these before and there won’t be much new for regular readers but I did like the newsclip on finger moustaches which have always amused the 11 yr old boy inside me (boy did that ever come out wrong!). Anyway, here’s the ‘Ingenious’ Tattoo Designs.

Maps For Us

Need a map? Maps For Us has so many random maps that you might find the one you want but it’s doubtful, you’re more likely to spend 10 minutes bieng amused by the offerings on there.

Bo Diddley

I was sorry to hear that Bo Diddley had a heart attack yesterday so here’s a superb clip of him from Wembley Stadium in 1972 to remind everyone of how influential he still is – if you still don’t believe me listen to Bo Diddley’s Beach Party and see where grunge and rock music comes from as it gets more and more raucous towards the end. Amazing, classic stuff. Have a bonus Hey, Bo Diddley link just to see the Duchess play that guitar. Get well soon Bo.

Dinner with the band (again)

I know it was only a few weeks ago that I posted about Dinner with the Band but there’s something about the format that I find irresistible – live music and very unusual recipes are a definite winner for me – the two recipes that have grabbed me the most so far are the Miso Butterscotch Halibut and the newer Black Olive Cobbler (cobbler is better known as crumble to UK readers). I just wish I could find someone who’d cook these for me as I know I’d make a complete hash of them if I tried them myself.

Kameraflage

Making use of the fact that digital cameras can see a different field of the visible spectrum, kameraflage allows you to hide images so that they can only be seen when viewed through a digital camera or cameraphone. I’m not impressed with the applications they’ve used to demonstrate this technology but the theory is great and nicely subversive (remind anyone of ‘They Live‘?).

Star Wars Vs Transformers Toy Mash-ups

If you’re looking for soem of the geekiest toys ever then you’ll love the Darth Vader/Death Star Transformer. There’s also a Han/Chewie/Millenium Falcon Transformer too. UK price is £40 for the Vader one but it’s only $50 from the US so might be a lot cheaper to buy from Amazon.com if you’re getting one.

Innuendo

You’ll need to rewind and watch this several times before you even hope to find half of the sexual innuendo contained within this advert. If you do get most of them, even after a few views then you must have a filthy mind! (Like me)

Pocket Shots

A bit late for the UK festival season but I’ve been getting more and more annoyed with having drinks confiscated from me at outdoor concerts so Pocket Shots seem like a good idea (with the added bonus that you can probably fill them up again afterwards – either with more drink or as a portable toilet).

Lumerias Video Search

Lumerias is a new video search engine. It aggregates results from video sharing sites such as youtube and dailymotion which is quite funky but I would like some control over how the results are reported as it does seem to favour dailymotion above all other sites in my tests and I’ve not seen any results from google video which seems like an obvious omission. Nice idea though.

The Front Fell Off.

It’s almost a shame that this is a comedy sketch – I’ve known Australians who had cojones large enough to say everything in here with a straight face. It’s about an Australian Senator Discussing an Oil Spill and it’s very much like Eric Idle and John Cleese.

Recommend some blogs for us

I’m looking for some new regular reading material so here’s a shout out – what blogs are you reading (the only criteria is that they get updated regularly). I’ll start you off with some of my current regular reads;
Design-yNiceFuckingGraphics, SwissMiss, Retro To Go, Brandish.
empeefreezBorn in the Basement (mostly punk), Gimme Back my head (indie), Bad CD Version, RockArmy, Perfumed Garden (Peel Sessions), PunchDrunk, Press Random.
Gizmos & Gadgetswists, cribcandy, geekalerts, engadget.
Just a very small sample but all good sites – go on, recommend more to us – use the comments or mail us and I’ll post the best.

Bullet Proof Baby

Sod My Little Pony, I need to get a My First Riot Helmet from Bullet Proof Baby especially considering the despicable actions shown in this video from the recent Montebello protest in Canada. (See also here). This use of police provocateurs is appalling and I think Dave Coles deserves a medal for his restraint and control of the situation. Dave, I salute you sir.

BioPlop – followup

Following our post about the new Bioshock game, I’ve decided not to bother with it as they’ve made the atrocious decision to use Securerom for copy protection and set the install limit to 2. This means that you can only install the game twice (even onto the same machine if you ever reformat). I’m running XP on my main home machine but I also have a few other desktops and laptops knocking around – I only ever use one at a time and I’ll no doubt upgrade one of them to vista soon since I should be getting a free copy through work’s Microsoft deal. I won’t, however, be able to install bioshock to use on whichever machine I need. The game makers have even used Valve’s Steam to deliver the game which would allow me to install it on multiple machines but only run it on one at once (which is perfect) but then they’ve ruined this by using the cruddy Securerom protection as well! That’s one more sale lost to the developers.

Farking stupid Hackers

I’ve been following this story of how a journalist tried to hack fark for a few days now but this is the best summary of it so far. Very odd – I really want to know what the ‘journalist’ thought he’s achieve? Did he just want to beat all the other lazy journalists who rob stories directly from fark to the first post (or should I say b00bies?).

I seriously doubt that JackThompson mentally is fit but surely you can’t argue with his psychologist? Then again, if he’s not insane, it means he’s just a pr1ck. Plenty of backstory available on this legal time-waster.
