Do the Gorilla Mash!
I’m sure I posted the Cadbury’s Gorilla advert a few weeks ago. Well, there’s a thriving mash-up scene sprung up around it – I’m loving the Cameo ‘Word Up’ Remix & this home-made one especially.

The longest list of the longest stuff at the longest domain name
Like a mini version of the Guiness Book of Records, the The longest list of the longest stuff at the longest domain name exists purely to try to have the longest domain name available. The trouble is, you can’t have the longest domain name, you can only tie for it as the specifications for internet domain names have 63 characters as a max.

Awesome Ubuntu/Linux Apps you might not know about…yet
If you use Ubuntu (and if not, why not) then check out these two lists of Awesome Ubuntu / Linux Apps you might not know about. I particularly love AptonCD (allows you to create a cd of all the packages that you’ve installed – amazingly useful for backup, creating master builds, sharing/installing onto your friends computers or integrating into a live cd), pixelize (mosaic image maker), dvddisaster (awesome program for recovering data from damagged dvds) and tilda (a funky drop-down terminal).
Products of dreams
Some excellent and some just bizarre Products. Design is not dead, it’s just dreaming.
disposableWebPage.com
Ok, so it’s not exactly hard to make your own webpage and webspace is simple to get hold of but I quite like the idea of disposableWebPage. It does what it says by allowing you to create temporary pages.
Manifold
Manifold is a very cool game, slick graphics, good learning curve, easy controls to master and deceptively simple. The only problem I had was that there aren’t many levels, the final level was the first one I had any problem with and then it finished. More levels soon please!
(For the final level, you need to use a property of the anomalies that you may have noticed if you aim the gravity in the direction of a wall.)
The Salmon Dance
Prime Towers has been resonating with The Chemical Brothers – The Salmon Dance for the past fortnight. It’s taken that long to work out if it was a really bad novelty track or a rather jolly good ditty. It seems so obvious now – it’s the latter – amazing beats, superb production guest vox from Fatlib (Pharcyde) and a cool video.
Family Star Guy Wars
If you haven’t had the nerdy pleasure of watching the hour long Family Guy – Star Wars special yet then here ya go.
Last Lecture
I must be getting old, I caught my eyes welling up slightly at the end of this exuberant ‘Last Lecture’ given by a a professor rapidly and prematurely dying of pancreatic cancer.
CustomReceipts
I’m not the sort of person who’s impressed by large amounts of money, I find it’s normally attached to an a55hat, so I can’t see any of my friends being wowed by someone waving a fake ATM Receipt under their noses. It’s not even a joke site – you can buy them in monthly or annual supplies. Is this supposed to be the paper equivalent of rohypnol?

Hear N’ Aid
Whoa! Dude! In a bout of random slurfing I just stumbled across the Hear N’ Aid video for ‘Stars’. Does that ring any bells? If you were a Kerrang reader back in the 80′s then it certainly will – it was the poodle-haired, lycra and spandex-wearing equivalent of Live Aid. Having a flashback – must resist temptation to go and get my old Dio records out (actually I swear they were Big grom’s Dio records – I think the Magnum collection was mine though).
Commenter Business Meeting 2
The Collegehumor crew return again for an return of the Commenter Business Meeting 2 (NSFW audio so use headphones at work unless you’re the boss).
Blogger Play
Blogger Play is an almost hypnotic slideshow of the images being uploaded to blogs on Blogger. I don’t think there’s any kind of control or filtering on the images so quality and SFW-edness isn’t guaranteed.
*Edit*For the best experience, slow it down to a reasonable rate and click on the ‘show info’ thing on the bottom right of the screen to see the accompanying blog post.
Let’s go to Zombie March
Perusing the list of the ‘World’s 15 Strangest Holidays‘ I nodded sagely at the
entries including such essentials as ‘The Chap Olympics’ and the ‘Redneck Games’ but then I got the Boston’s ‘Zombie March‘ – that’s my kinda good time.
Beat Blinds
I love the idea of interactive furniture, being an inveterant fiddler, so the Beat Blinds really appeal to me – check out Will Gurley’s other products/designs (shame it’s a flash site though – why do people still do that?).
Iron Man
The teenage fanboy in me (insert your own joke here) is very excited about the trailer for the Iron Man movie starring Robert Downey Jr. Looks superb to me.
Escape from Island
This time, instead of escaping from the room, you have to Escape from Island (sic).
lolsecretz
PostSecret has been LOLCat‘d – the result is lolsecretz. Loving Gamin Cat
Stephen Fry has a blog
My contender for one of the best all-time fantasy dinner guests Stephen Fry, has a new blog. I knew he was a bit of a gadget freak but he really does know his stuff on gizmos too.
You’ve got a dirty mind
Admit it, you were thinking exactly the same as me when you saw this, you filthy person. (erm, I guess this is actually NNSFW if you’ll excuse the double-negative).
New Uke Vids
Our love of Ukulele music is well-documented so I need no excuse to simply point you to the wonderful Gus And Fin. Their Blitzkrieg Bop works superbly but also check out their solo efforts such as Gus’ ‘below-fi’ (ie: lower than lo-fi) version of Go! Team’s ‘Panther Dash‘.
Ian Brown – Illegal Attacks
It’s certainly not his strongest song but no-one can accuse Ian Brown of mincing his words in his new song Illegal Attacks (feat. Sinead O’Connor just for that little bit of extra controversy).
Sir Freelancelot
The Sir Freelancelot t-shirt is dedicated to Solomon and all the other corporate refuseniks out there. (I’m not saying it looks like you though mate!). And why not mrs Solomon a Designerd one while you’re at it?
Ubuntu (Hardy Heron) Release Dates
Now that’s how you plan a release! I’m looking forward to April 24th 2008 – that’s the projected release date for Ubuntu 8.04 aka Hardy Heron. If you haven’t used it yet then Ubuntu is the flavour of Linux that you should be thinking of replacing your current Operating System with. Forget Vista, install Ubuntu – Hardy Heron is going to be the mainstream breakthrough for Linux judging by Feisty Fawn and Gutsy Gibbon (they really need to work on their naming scheme though) and Heron will be supported for a minimum of 3 yrs which should see a lot of corporations picking it up. (I’m writing this post on a previously unusable XP laptop which has now become one of my main machines since having Ubuntu installed on it).
The Future of Help Files?
Is Adobe’s knowhow the way of the future for help files in programs. It’s a Flash plugin for Creative Suite 3 which gives community/user-generated contextual advice (tool tips, shortcuts, tutorials) within each of the programs in the suite (like Photoshop). It’s a very intriguing idea and one I’ll try out just to see if it too intrusive or annoying.
The Universal Packing List
The Universal Packing List is a surprisingly handy and well-thought out aide memoire for people going away for a few days. It does what it says it is.
Robot Chicken: Star Wars Special
Take one of my favourite shows, Robot Chicken, combine it with one of mrs grom’s long-stranding obsessions, Star Wars, and you’ve got the Robot Chicken: Star Wars Special. See also the viewer-voted best 10 RC/SW sketches.
Colin McRae dies in helicopter crash
Sorry to hear that Colin McRae’s dead – it seems to be a helicopter crash which has also killed his son.
