New Grow Island Game
Remember the Grow games – click the buttons in the right order and watch a story unfold. There’s a new Grow game out – Grow Island (and if you really want one, here’s a walkthrough if you feel the need for one.
Jumpy game
Make your jumpy chewing gum leap up the falling square things out of the way of the dangerous rising red stuff. Fun.
The CollegeHumor Prank Wars
Judging by the latest ‘Ballpark’ episode in the ongoing saga of the CollegeHumor Prank Wars, someone’s due to be arrested or murdered sometime soon.
I’m Happy with the Hat!
I’m a big fan of alternative comedians such as Monkey Magic, Dirty Tricks and Barry and Stuart. If you’re bored have a nosy around youtube for their stuff but don’t miss Barry & Stuart’s Woman giving birth to a rabbit! (NSFW)
My Neighborhood Speed Trap
In the midst of attempting to sleep last night I remember my mind wandering as it does and spewing out random (very) thoughts, one of which was – ‘I wonder what’s new on Cockeyed.com‘ – one of my all-time favourite websites. Obviously I finally fell asleep and promptly forgot all about it until I got into work this morning and clicke don a random link on reddit which took me unawares to My Neighborhood Speed Trap, the latest addition to the Cockeyed Science Club.
First Look at the ThreadLess Store in Chicago
Looking at the photos and description of the new (and first) ThreadLess Store in Chicago, I’m really impressed and if they ever want to open up in the UK then I’d be happy to discuss franchise terms with them.
Aping Around
As a public service I’d like to share this classic television advert with our non-UK readers.
A Single Sheet of Paper
These pieces of art made using only A Single Sheet of Paper are quite stunning. (Shame about the snotty attitude the site’s owner has with his linking policy – yes what he says is fair and common sense for any well-mannered blogger but it comes across fairly arrogantly).
War Of The Worlds eComic
Cool! Darkhorse have put up an ecomic of the War Of The Worlds.
Beardy Weirdy
We do love the World Beard Championships here at prime towers, here’s a gallery of the latest Contestants and Champions. The freestyle moustache of Memili Rustuoglu is stunning but MExican’s Eduardo’s sideburns scare me
The Secret of Invisibility
Ladies & Gentlemen, let me let you in on the Secret of Invisibility – it works too!
Google Earth Flight Simulator
Cool Google Earth Easter Egg! Along with the recent update to Google Earth to include Google Sky, there’s a hidden Google Earth Flight Simulator in there too.
Yamaha LED Music Drawing Tool
Although described as a LED Music Drawing Tool, Yamaha’s Tenori-On is simply a midi sequencer which you control by lighting up leds. This means that you get a pretty light display as you use it. It looks quite funky in the demo video and shold be fairly intuitive to use for anyone who’d ever done any sequencing.
*Update*
Dan’s pointed out in the comments that Yamaha might be regretting releasing this in the UK first judging by how it was being (ab)used on launch night. I suspect Solomon might have had something to do with it going on the sense of puerile humour involved.
Amazon Mechanical Turk – Help Find Steve Fossett
You can help to find missing adventurer Steve Fossett by taking part in one of the ‘Human Intelligence Tasks’ in Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. The satellite images for the area where they estimate him to be have been made available and this task involves looking at snippets of the areas and highlighting anything you think investigators should look into.
similicio.us
similicio.us follows the tradition of crappy-named sites that I have to mentally circumvent the name of when I hear it. It lets you search for similar sites to one you give it based on people’s del.icio.us bookmarks. It’s got handy browser extensions too.
The Impossible Quiz 2
Sorry to do this to you all on a Monday but I ‘ve just found ou that The Impossible Quiz 2 by =Splapp-me-do is out. If you ever saw the original then you’ll know how annoying and frustrating this is going to be and yet you’ll still waste a large amount of time playing it.
If Simpsons Was Star Wars
Everyone’s seen the If Simpsons Was Star Wars fan parody already haven’t they?
Street Fighter: The Later Years
I really like the idea of comedy net shorts Street Fighter: The Later Years but I’m not 100% sure about it’s execution, it’s just not that funny. Mind you it couldn’t be worse than the Kylie-starring movie.
STOP! Ninja time!
Genius! This Ninja Entry road sign looks like becoming this years Stop. Hammertime.
I want one I wont one I want one
Fully acknowledging I’d probably break my stupid neck on it but I really want a Magic Wheel. A large wheel hi-tech scooter that looks fab, especially as this video shows an old guy with a beard using one.
Death Eater Masks
Coming to a council estate/trailer park near you soon, the ASBO-tastic Harry Potter Death Eater Masks will soon be worn by any self-respecting mugger – seriously, they’re pretty freaky looking masks!
CoScripter
CoScripter is a firefox add-on created by a team at IBM which seems similar in principle to Greasemonkey in that it provides a simple way of scripting things. You can use other user-submitted scripts or write your own to automate things that you regularly do with your browser, kind of like a macro recorder for yoru browser, simply start recording, click away , stop it and use it to play those actions back whenever you want. It’s a nice simple way of saving yourself repetively logging into sites or changing user agents.
Skills with Kills Pay the Bills
Anyone else heard about Kwari? It’s a new game that’s in beta that I’m intrigued about more from a professional Internet dude point of view than as a gamer. It’s an FPS based game where you use real money to buy ammo from the developers and then basically gamble on your shooting skills to earn money (that’s real cash not virtual). You lose money every time you get damage and earn money for every piece of damage you inflict on others. Obviously this raises so many questions so I’ll be following Virtually Blind (a legal issues site based around virtual issues) to see what their take on this is.
I’ve been playing FPS games since Wolfenstein so I’m very conscious that gamers will use every possible thing that they can to get an advantage so the developers will have their work cut out scouting for hacks and monitoring for pseudo cheats like bunny hopping.
The beta does not involve real money so I’m tempted to sign up for that and see how well it plays out in theory. Let me know your thoughts.
Why you shouldn’t buy Electrical Adaptors from eBay
If you are considering buying a power supply from eBay then you might want to read this guys experience with a Dodgy AC Adapter. Quite scary.
Hi I’m a Mac
Which OS are you?
(caution Sun is NSFW, Amstrad is very NSFEyes)
Added to the list of Airlines I will never fly with
It seems that some goats have recently been sacrificed to fix a Nepalese jet. Nepal Airlines have not said what the problem was, but reports in local media have blamed an electrical fault. I’d guess it was goats chewing on the cables.
(Solomon – should it be Nepal Aerolines? ;p)
Chipwrapper
I’m loving the new search engine for UK Newspapers especially for the name alone – Chipwrapper.
How To Hide An Airplane Factory
During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from a Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting and trompe l’oeil to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.
cheers KD
Startup Schwag is now Live
Startup Schwag is now live! Pop over, sign up and start to receive a new t-shirt (and occasionally an extra wee marketing gimmick) every month. Yes, this is like the old, now defunct, Valleyschwag idea but they overstretched themselves and couldn’t keep up with demand and the rigours of shipping so many packages every month and freely admit to being code monkeys not t-shirt sellers. Roddy, who runs this new venture, assures me that he’s looked at why Valleyschwag failed and is confident that he can pull this off. I actually like his idea of getting startups to license their logos to him and he’ll print the shirts to their specs on demand, thus alleviating the issue of not enough stock. The rates are very reasonable too – working out at about £13 a month for a new t-shirt and he’s even managed to get a good write-up in Techcrunch in which one of the original Valleyschwaggers gives his blessing. If you’ve got a startup and want some good, cheap advertising then drop Roddy a message but you’d better have a cool logo!
Blurred Visions
It’s all gone a bit blurry in these cool photos
