When Pet Owners Go Too Far
As much as it appals me, I just couldn’t help staring and laughing with my jaw agape at the pampaered and preened pooches.
RadioLina
Been loving listening to Manu Chao’s Hangover Playlist this morning.

CrunchBoard UK
The new revitalised Techcrunch UK site has just launched a jobsite especially for the tech crowd. The current listings on CrunchBoard UK are pretty much all London or Brighton based ones but you might well recognise some of the companies advertising on there – if the quality of jobs stays high then it could become a good source of job adverts for UK start-ups.
The 6 Most Terrifying Foods in the World
This list of the 6 Most Terrifying Foods in the World falls down in only one way, they don’t actually sample the food, unlike one of our old favourites, Steve, don’t eat it.
Launchpad
We’ve not had many good games for a while so please send me any you’ve seen around. In the meantime, have a go at Launchpad courtesy of the Science Museum. It’s a good little game with plenty of levels to keep you busy and you can save your progress. My only complaint is that the learning curve is very gentle but then it is classed as an educational game for children (so about the right level for someone as intellectually stunted as me).
The StupidFilter
I think the StupidFilter is what the internets needs. These guys are building a database of comments (primarily from that font of stupidity that is youtube comments) and identifying what stupid comments look like hopefully leading to a source to create things like Firefox plugins to filter this out – your brain will thank you one day.
Guys and Gurls with guitars in showers
It’s great fun proving that absolutely everything exists on the interweb. A month ago, xkcd posted this cartoon about rule 34 of the internet (‘If you can imagine it, there is pr0n of it’) and in response the wetriffs site was setup with a request for pictures of people in showers with electric guitars thus fulfilling rule 35 (‘if it doesn’t exist on the internet, it must be created’). Obviously the gallery is NSFW otherwise what would be the point?
The Internet Census
It’s been a long, long time since anyone pulled together a Census of the Internet Address Space and boy, has it changed. It’s a shame you can’t get a print out like the one they did at one pixel per address.
Q: What’s worse than geek humour?
A: Database Geek Humour (unfortunately this made me laugh too much – I really must get a life!)
Winger’s wanger in live exposé
Rugby players do tend to get stereotyped. It’s not that surprising really, bearing the image that most people have of them that doing an interview in the changing rooms after a match might lead to some penis-related horseplay which, might just, end up on youtube. There are so many small bits of this story that made me smile – a rugby team being called ‘Manly’ (that’s like having a politician called Mr Lying Bastard), the player being ‘highly embarrassed’ (I doubt he could even spell it) but most of all, the Australian press’ ability to cheer me up with their headlines – no-one writes headlines like an Oz journo.
cheers Byron
Speaking of Rainbows…
Since we’re on the subject of rainbows I was sent this by one of our readers recently. No comment other than it’s NSFW.
In Rainbows
Well, I’m sure you’ll all have heard about Radiohead’s new album by now. It’s had a ton of press for giving a boot up the backside of the music industry since the band have no record label at present and despite (or maybe because of) the fact that they are one of the biggest bands in the world, have decided that they don’t need a label and have released their new album today via their website. It’s a netheads dream – you pick the price that you want to pay (yep, even 1pence if you wish (plus 45p credit card charge) and you get an album of 160KBps DRM-free (that’s the clincher for me!) tracks. They’ve spent nothing at all on publicity, very little on recording it as they own their own studios so even if 3 million people buy it for a dime a piece, they’ve still made a handsome amount – sheer genius. There are several online polls at the moment asking how much you paid (I paid £5/$10 which I believe is a fair price for a bunch of mp3z) and I’m really intrigued to see what the average price paid was. Go to radiohead.com to get it yourself – from what I’ve heard so far (3 tracks) it’s a very good album.
Another Cadbury Gorilla mash-up
I’ll stop posting these Cadbury Gorilla mash-ups soon but I couldn’t resist this X Factor Audition one.
cheers Temerity
Stop! Hammer (Juggling) Time
Something about this setup is a little fishy – I hope it’s real. If it is then I’m extremely impressed by the Amazing Hammer Juggling in this video.
Not Supposed to be funny but…
I have to be very careful how I word this as people very close to me might take any snide comments personally (ie: I won’t be making any Irish jokes here – you can insert your own). As Big Grom (aka ‘our kid’) pointed out when he sent me this link, this is ‘not the funniest of stories until you read paragraph 5 – not exactly a criminal mastermind!
Ice Axis
I’d love to know how on earth they filmed this stunning climbing video – the bits where the cameraman goes 360 around the climber is so impressive.
cheers Steve
Wing Sings AC/DC
If it’s possible to cover your ears and still hear then I’d do just that when listening to Wing singing AC/DC. Wing Han Tsang is an *ahem* unique performer to say the least. Her vocal style is hard to describe although you may have heard her on an episode of South Park named after her.
The life of a bullet
(Apologies for all of the youtube links today.) The opening sequence of the film Lord of War is stunning (and unxpectedly hard-hitting) – it’s the life of a bullet and almost makes me want to see a Nicolas Cage movie that isn’t Raising Arizona.

*Edit* Link changed to original source but a little note to the commenter who pointed out that the original link was stolen – don’t leave anonymous comments if you wish me to act on them, at least leave a name/pseudonym, it’s only polite.
Who Do You Love
One of the all-time greatest garage-punk songs has to be Who do you love – this version is by Preachers from 1965 but was written and originally performed by Bo Diddley. The song’s been covered by so many bands I can’t start to name them (oh go on, Primal Scream, Jesus & Mary Chain).. From the opening lines of ‘I walked 47 miles of barbed wire, I use a cobra snake for a necktie…’ it’s one of the most low-down and dirty songs ever. Just look at the headbanging action and the ‘we’re all so constipated’ poses of the Preachers.
River Dance Monkeys
What better way to start the week than with some Monkeys doing Riverdance?
Where’s Porkins when you need him?
I hope when they do a test flight of this amazing fan-built replica of an X-Wing that actually flies, they don’t do it over the RAK Convention centre, they might get a bit carried away.
Amazon Super Saver Filler Items
Now I KNOW that I’ve posted this one before but I couldn’t find it just now in the archives. filleritem.com allows you to search for very low priced items on Amazon. Simply type in the amount that you need to make up to get the free Super Saver postage and optionally select the departments you want to search in and it’ll list all of the items that you can fill up your basket with. Amazingly handy. (Link goes to the UK version but remove the uk bit of the url to get the US version – .de, .jp and .ca also available)
‘Gay bomb’ scoops Ig Nobel award
The BBC site has a quick round-up of this year’s Ig Nobel award winners.
I Like Short Shorts
Perusing this massive site of Hot Pants of the 60′s and 70′s, I was astounded to find that I found something more interesting to look at than Catherine Bach (aka Daisy Duke) – if you scroll down the first page to about a third of the way down at the start of the girls on bikes section, you’ll see what was probably the coolest thing ever back then (and still is for some of us!) – a Raleigh Chopper bike fitted with a CB radio! Awesome!
Funny Sports Pics
I like the way that there is no explanation here, just a compilation of some great sporting images with some fantastic facial expressions – each one looks like a candidate for a fark photoshop competition.
Worst Album Covers re-re-dux
In amongst the many repeats on here are not only quite a few additions to the Worst Album Covers but also way too many that I used to own (I’m not proud of my 12yr old self for buying Manowar and the Scorpions but it was the 80′s and I was very young).
The Good Die Young video is finally out
Good friends of pri.me.uk, The Good Die Young made an excellent video for one of their best songs ‘Cut From’ a good few months ago but couldn’t release it due to a press embargo and issues with flashing, flickering images but they’ve finally managed to get it up on their myspace page (with numerous warnings now added). It’s a great song and a superb video and the band keep getting better and better. If you’re on myspace please add them, tell them I sent you and enjoy the vid. (It was directed by Adam Fair who also did The Cribs ‘You were always the one‘)

Stencilry
An unusual resource but a handy one for people wanting to make a t-shirt design is Stencilry a site full of silhouette stencils for download. Grab some ninjas, Hello Kitty or Audrey Hepburn or you can request your own custom one. Just one more reason for me to finally buy that screenprinting press I’ve been promising myself (pri.me.uk t-shirts to follow shortly afterwards!).
