Buffalo Theory
No, I’m not starting the whole Buffalo Buffalo etc thing again, this is the Buffalo Theory and something to bear in mind if you’re going out to a Xmas party this year.
thanks kd
Emergency Games
Stuck at home, feeling bored, then maybe you need a manual for extreme physical experiences that can be enjoyed in the danger of your own home.
Crowd Dozen Xmas list
The CD crew have an eye for the finer things in life and their Christmas list is usually pretty tasty.
Highlights for me are the Hard Drive Docking station, the magnetic headphone jack and the ultra cute Wookie nesting dolls.
Geeky Xmas gift
Dear Santa, I’ve mostly been a good boy this year so please bring me lots of ggeky goodness including one of these hard drive mounts – they’re very useful.
30 Years of LucasFilm Christmas Cards
In American terms, I guess an original Lucasfilms Xmas card is an antique now! Some very nice cards in the 30 Years of LucasFilm Christmas Cards collection.
Porn For Girls By Girls
Porn For Girls By Girls is SFW and I guess that’s all you need to know about it.
Terry Pratchett diagnosed with Alzheimer’s
I’m sorry to report that Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with a rare form of ‘early onset Alzheimer’s disease. True to form though, his open letter, from which this news comes, is fine example of the good-natured humour that is evident in all of his many books. I wish him a long and fruitful life and may he continue to be the most-shop-lifted author in Britain.
Lost in Translation
I think something got a little Lost in Translation from Chinese to English (contains rude word).
Easycrypt – simple security
Have I really not posted about Easycrypt yet? I could have sworn I did since it’s IMHO, one of the best security tools out. I know I’m a bit biased since it’s written by a friend of mine and I have to be nice to him since he lurks on this site occasionally but still, don’t take my word for it, take the Ubuntu Guru‘s advice or if that’s not good enough for you, how about this – it’s been accepted into the next Ubuntu release – Hardy Heron. Based on Truecrypt, it adds an additional easy to use GUI and has some very cool features like being able to use keyfiles instead of passwords or being able to set custom mount points (mount it into /home/yournamehere/.mozilla and then run firefox and you have a brand spanking new Firefox portable instance that you can carry about with all your settings, cache, plugins etc but now it’s got military grade encryption (simply unmount it and your back to your old version of firefox)). A cracking little piece of software and a must if you value your privacy. (needs Ubuntu to create your crypt but the crypt itself will be accessible on any OS that works with Truecrypt).
Office Pranks
We’re all big fans of Office Pranks here at Prime Towers. I’ve personally pulled the cling-film a guy’s entire desk and individually wrap everything on it or in it as well as shrinkwrapping an entire car but I’ve not seen the jello mould ones before and it’s one I’m gonna do sometime soon.
Done a Poo
Deciding that the world was lacking a website of badly doctored images containing the words “Done a Poo!”, Scaryduck and friends made a new blog. Utterly pointless, which is what the web is for.
BJ gene helps male fish fake it
The male cichlid fish is a canny wee fellow – he basically fakes an egg on his ‘body’ in order to get free Oral sex from the female as she tried to suck it up back into her mouth where she incubates her eggs.
Tracking down Afunakwa
Also appearing at ROFLCon will be all-round good guy Matt from one of my all-time favourite websites, Where the Hell is Matt?. Checking his blog just now I came across a fascinating entry about tracking down Afunakwa. You may not recognise the name but sure as hell you’ll have heard her voice – she was a woman from the Solomon Islands who was recorded by a French (or Swiss, I’m not 100% sure) ethnomusicologist in 1970/71 singing a traditional lullaby which was later used in a worldwide hit, ‘Sweet Lullaby‘ by Deep Forest (and then used on Matt’s first video). It appears that she died over 10 yrs ago but Matt has tried to find her family and if possible pay back something to them for her contribution to his success – like I said, he’s an all-round good guy and it’s a fascinating interview even if the timings meant that there was no happy ending this time.
ROFLCon
ROFLCon has to be the ultimate in Geeky conferences. forget your cosplay or Trekkie/Trekker cons, ROFLCon 2008 is set to feature as many of your favourite internet memes as can be tracked down. So far they’ve got quite a few nerd-heroes such as Tron guy, Drew Curtis from Fark, Homestar Runer and the Bert is Evil guys amongst others.
Machine Girl
If you want to imagine the trailer for the forthcoming Japanese movie Machine Girl then picture Tetsuo (1 & 2) mixed with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers swirled with Battle Royale, a pinch of Kill Bill and a smidgen of Evil Dead. Damn it looks good (and very gory – so caution watching the trailer at work). Shame there’s no more info in its imdb entry.
Exploiting Second Life
I stopped playing with Second Life shortly after I started, I was very interested from a technical point of view and from a work perspective but it’s just not my thing. I have, however, been keeping a tag on it as the popularity of it still makes it highly relevant to me so I was intrigued to read about this Second Life hack (strictly speaking it’s a Quicktime hack) which allows you to completely control someone else’s avatar – in this proof of concept, you place a poisoned QT file on your land and when someone else walks past, (assuming they have ‘always play streaming audio/video when available’ ticked) it tries to play the poisoned file, freezes the character, gives you all of their money (don’t forget 2nd Life money is transferable into real money) and shouts ‘I’ve been hacked’.
Family Activity Planner
A FOAFOAF has just put this handy Family Activity Planner together which might be worth bookmarking.
Here Comes Another Bubble
I shouldn’t like this Billy Joel parody of web 2.0 but Here Comes Another Bubble does hit the nail on the head pretty damn well.
Topless Wii
Topless Wii is a (NSFW) feature on the site of British ‘lads’ mag’ Nuts in which two young females are filmed playing a Wii topless . The aim is to try to guess what game they’re playing. It’s really good. (Disclaimer: One of the previous statements is false).
Google Maps Prank
I doubt this college prank was done especially for Google Maps but it’s what the site was made for.
R2D2 Translator
I don’t know why I’ve been having so much fun with the R2D2 Translator but for some reason it realy tickles me.
Stunning scuba shots
Found on Fark, a stunning set of underwater shots taken mostly, I believe, at the Truk Lagoon in Micronesia.
Jerk Off with a twist(er)
Craigslist really does show that the world does accommodate all sorts of people. Check out this (NSFW) *ahem* unusual personal ad. I love the ‘straight guys only, no gay stuff’ – yeah, you keep kidding yourself fella!
LiveLeak.com – WW2 Bag Found In Desert.
A bag belonging to a World War II soldier from Lancashire has been discovered in the Egyptian desert after lying there for more than 60 years.
Alec Ross, from Burnley, lost the bag containing personal letters and photos, while serving with the 8th Army. Egyptian tour guide Kahled Makram found the bag in the Sahara desert and traced Mr Ross’s family through a BBC website on World War II. The bag is being sent to Burnley to Mr Ross’s sister, Irene Porter.

Japanese crazy obstacle course
Makoto Nagano is a 33 year old commercial fisherman. He is a very strong, agile, and attractive man. And he is a champion of the Japanese TV show. Ninja Warrior. In fact, he is the only contestant to successfully complete all the various obstacle courses since 1999!

Balloon Race Time Lapse
I wouldn’t want to be in charge of air traffic control during this Balloon Race!
(Does it remind anyone else of a Sony Bravia advert?)
Bunny Yawns – another unnecessarily exhaustive site
We’ve had another submission to our collection of unnecessarily exhaustive websites which have but one purpose and far too much detail about it. This time it’s Bunny Yawns a site full of images of, yep, rabbits yawning.
thanks again Serenity
Liquid Sculpture
Another rather beautiful collection of Liquid Sculptures (water drops).
Win a million
On the American “Who Want to be a Millionaire” this chap gets a crack at the biggy and he chooses to use a lifeline to speak to his dad. This is what I call keeping your cool.
World’s Most Effective Speed Bump
Firstly, apologies to our readers for the relative lack of posts over the past month or so – I’m neck-deep in what has turned out to be the worst project at work I’ve ever been involved in, Solomon is very busy at work and has just moved house and both Al and Carloz have recently started new jobs. Hopefully we’ll be back to normal amounts of posting any time soon – keep you suggestions coming in though.
Now back to the posts;
Great spoof ad from a German diy company – is this the World’s Most Effective Speed Bump?
cheers Serenity
