Protest Crasher
A priceless Protest Crasher.
Kaossilator Touchpad Synthesizer
Ooh, I think I’m in love with the Korg Kaossilator Touchpad Synthesizer and even better, it’s, for once, the same cost in the US and the UK ($199 or £99) instead of the usual inflated price in the UK – I love the idea of having this on a train journey instead of an iPod. The only question is, do I buy one now or wait for the next, improved version ideally with the ability to save using memory instead of having to record out.
Rollerman
Another person to add to the certified nutter list. Jean Yves Blondeau looks like one of the Wheelers from Return to Oz (if you’ve ever had the mis/fortune to see that movie) as he wears his custom-made suit consisting of lots of inline skate wheels and then launching himself down Swiss roads. Make sure you also see parts 1 & 3 for more details about the suit and to see him attempt to go faster than a motorbike in the dark.
cheers Steve
jPod – The Series
This one caught me off guard – there’s a tv series screening in Canada of Dougles Coupland‘s jPod. Douglas Coupland is one of my favourite authors and jPod was the ‘sorta’ follow-up to the classic Microserfs. I’m intrigued to see if it works as a tv show, I’m hoping that Douglas’ involvement means it will. I can’t view the episodes on the CBC website which may be a region-locked thing but you can get the episodes from most friendly binaries sites (Easynews is my recommendation).
Smurfs left blue-faced
No, not more smurf pr0n – this itme it’s the Croatian world record attempt which failed miserably.
OOTTINLTO – 2001
Cool! Whilst looking for an image for the previous post, I found a perfect OOTTINLTO – 2001 space odyssey monolith (NSFW odd one out as usual).
The Future is High
The Medical Marijuana Vending Machine is here and it looks oddly familiar.
Takeawayshows
The guys behind the superb takeawayshows site make me so jealous. They get bands visiting PAris to play informal sessions in unusual places. Check out Arcade Fire playing in an elevator for a great example.
So I guess I got kicked off another My Little Pony Forum
So I guess I got kicked off another My Little Pony Forum. Trolling 101.
Google Bombing returns
Wow. I haven’t seen a Google Bomb for a long time now – I thought it was really hard to do these days so maybe google has finally admitted what everyone else already knew – dangerous cult = Scientology.
Smurf Pr0n
I wasn’t going to post this as I thought it might be a bit too much for some of our more delicate readers but I really want to post the two words Smurf Pr0n. You don’t need to know any more (apart from it’s obviously NSFW although I’ve not linked directly to it). You have been warned (but this IS what the interwebs were invented for).
Pixar’s Document Library
Ok, so this won’t be of interest to any but the most nerdy of nerds but then that’s probably about half of our audience here (& I’m especially looking at you Kaye!). Personally I spent about an hour browsing through the Pixar library looking at such papers as ‘Acting with Contact in Ratatouille – Cartoon Collision and Response’, ‘Virtual Tailoring for Ratatouille: Clothing the Fattest Man in the World’ and ‘ Volumetric Methods for Simulation and Rendering of Hair’.
I’m not saying I understood a word of any of them but there were some pretty pictures.
I need a screen wipe
Sheer, uncontrollable laughter combined with coffee made my monitor rather messy when I saw this.
Leaked UK gov’t doc reveals plan to “coerce” Brits into national ID register
Everyone at Prime Towers is strongly opposed to the idea of a national ID card so we’re more than happy to mirror this document which shamelessly writes about the idea of coercing Brits into national ID register – something we’ve long known about but consistently denied by governments in this country.
The iJoyRide
Oh Dear – is it just me or is the iJoyRide a decidedly dodgy looking machine. Maybe I just have a filthy mind but consensus in this office is that this is just a symbian machine without the ‘attachment’ (you’re probably best off not googling for symbian machine if you don’t know what it is – the results will undoubtedly be NSFW).
Sick Words
I think most of our site could be described as Witzelsucht, I know a few women who are unashamed Colpocoquettes and I’ve certainly been guilty of Krukolibidinousness on many occasions much to my shame.
cheers KD
What Difference Glasses Make
I stopped wearing specs a few years ago, which according to this now means I look more like a truck driver than a professor.
Kris Holm – Extreme Unicycle
Remember the exreme Mountain Bike track I posted about last week? – How about someone doing a very similar track on a unicycle? Kris Holm is that nutter – watch his Freeride video and then more of his extreme adventures. (I used to ride a unicycle (v.badly) and I can testify that he cannot has any cajones left but I still can’t work out how he manages to do some of these things on a unicycle, it shouldn’t be possible!)
tourettes machine
I’m going to try to see if I can sneak the Firefox extension tourettes machine onto as many of the corporate machines here at work without people noticing – it should lead to much hilarity, japes and losing of my job.
cheers Chris
You Cannot Remove Your Fingerprints With Pineapple
Thomas Scott is a certified mad genius scientist (he’s also extraordinarily intelligent and a thoroughly nice chap). Not only is he responsible for the UK’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, and is one of the organisers of BarCampLeeds, he’s been running an experiment to prove that you cannot remove your fingerprints with pineapple. The video is superb and even made the b3ta newsletter this week. We were all laughing at his attempts at Barcamp although I was rather concerned that he couldn’t actually use a keyboard and mouse without yelping with pain – Tom – I think the video makes it all worth it in the end though, it’s genius and so are you fella!
Carrot Caviar
I quite fancy the idea of making Carrot Caviar – seems simple enough and very impressive for a dinner party – the coffee version looks superb too. UK readers can buy the necessary kit from here (more links for equipment/chemicals here, here and here).
Moments Before Cup Chicks
Another great spoof video – this one details the Moments Before Cup Chicks aka 2 cups, one producer.
As usual, if you haven’t seen the video that this is parodying, I won’t help you out, you really don’t want to see it so don’t go looking (seriously) but this vid is safe and funny.
One step closer to Snowcrash
Every day we seem to take one step forwards (and the ocassional two steps backwards) to Neal Stephenson and William Gibson‘s visions of the future. I love this ‘mash-up’ of using the Quake game engine to monitor and interact with a network. L3dgeworld is a data visualisation utility – to see it in action (the only way to see why I like it) check out the videos.
Understanding art for geeks
Geeks have an image of being, let’s say, a little prepossessed with their specialities and managing to fail to appreciate the finer point of culture. The understanding art for geeks photoset should help somewhat.
iPhone PocketGuitar
Finally – a good use for an iPhone – the PocketGuitar – Virtual iPhone Guitar – looks really quite funky (but not very practical).
Blasphemy
Yep, Blasphemy’s never been funnier.
How Nosy are you?
If you’re a nosy person or just looking to do some mindless browsing then here are two new sites to check out. ReadBurner shows you the links being shared via Google Reader but includes some lovely RSS tools which allow you to ‘burn’ your own RSS feed based on the results (kind of aggregating an aggregator).
Second up is searchquilt which is a nice simple aggregator of Google trends, yahoo buzz, aol hot searches and a few others thrown in for good measure.
cheers, Tara
Boobik – Twitter with a purpose
If you’ve come across twitter then you’ll be aware how utterly mind-numbingly pointless and annoying it is. boobik solves that by being quite up-front about it’s purpose – it’s a pr0n version of twitter (and so is obviously NSFW) but is also unfortunately just as mindless (almost like those late-night chat line adverts on tv).
