Gnarly Bike Trail

What an amazing mountain bike trail! It’s more like a computer game but what a rush! (Bet the walk back up to the top is a pain though)

For me, it’s all about KFC

I’ll assume you’ve seen the psychologically disturbing Tom Cruise Scientology promo video (if not, stop and go watch a few seconds of it – that’s all you need to get an appreciation of how mentally damaged he is). Now go watch Jerry O’Connell’s parody – it’s very well done. He even managed to get an Aristocrats joke in there.
On a side note – is Scientology the only ‘religion’ that never mentions ‘god’? I’m a tolerant person but they’re a buncha freaks if you ask me.

How quickly can you tranq these sheep? I was 0.259 on my first go (and that included a sneeze half way through).

I can’t remember if we’ve posted the Millimetres Matter advert before but it’s worth a repost if we have – it’s basically a custard pie fight with insects.

Mini-me Thieves

In a burst of geniusosity (I’m gonna copyright that word), it seems that Swedish Dwarves are hiding in luggage on coaches and stealing from other cases en route then getting back into their bags before being unloaded by colleagues. Where’s Inch-High Private Eye when you need him?

Hula King Dies

Forgot to post this last week so thanks to Chris for remionding me that many of our readers will be saddened to hear that Richard Knerr who gave the world the Hula Hoop and the Frisbee has died at the ripe old age of 82. I’ll always remember him as the real life Norville Barnes – inventor of the Extruded Plastic Dingus – ‘You know, for kids!’

Remember a few months ago we posted the Daft Hands version of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger? Here’s Daft Bodies. Then there’s the team event and finally the drunken version.
thanks for all your hard work researching this post Steve

Urban Legend ER

Imagine a world where every urban legend comes true, it would make for a hard life at the Urban Legend ER. While you’re over at Collegehumor, why not also check out Roadie Hero (since Solomon, Carloz and myself all used to be roadies a long, long time ago) or the excellent underground tunnel prank (this had me in stitches!)

Infographics

The Yahoo! Design Innovation Team have some pretty funky (and indeed funky, pretty) projects up for your delectation. Check out the query bursts movie for a demo – this data is all out there already but the way of visualising it is very cool.

Slap Corey

Following on from the post a couple of days ago about the unrepentant party monster from Melbourne. I’ve been sent a link (worryingly from an Australian council employee who shall remain nameless) to the new Australian national past-time, the Slap Corey game.

Scrabbulous taken down – duh.

I know I’m in the minority in hating both myspace and facebook as phenomenal wastes of time and space – I think of them as lowest common denominator interwebs but are the users of facebook who use the scrabbulous app really surprised that Mattel/Hasbro are upset over the blatant rip-off of scrabble. Come on! Stop whining

To ‘B’ or not to ‘B’

Retrovision tv dedicates itself to finding and promoting old movies and tv shows and they’ve got a great page of classic B Movies to download and watch at your leisure. I’m off to watch Bela Lugosi in White Zombie.

mrs grom has frequently (too frequently if you ask me) stated that she wouldn’t hesitate to sleep with Johnny Depp given the chance but I can kinda understand since he is one of the good guys.

Overstream

Overstream is a great idea – it allows you to caption/subtitle videos from youtube, google, dailymotion and myspace. There are numerous serious uses for this (the most common usage at the moment seems to be straightforward translations) but I can see plenty of Pop-Up Video style p1ss-take videos like this rap translation. Lots of potential for this web 2.0 site if the big boys (youtube etc) don’t block it or try to shut it down, I’d say it’s ripe for a buyout by one of them instead.
Here’s my first attempt (done for a boingboing post today and apologies for the cruddiness – it took all of 10 mins)

You Gotta Fight For Your Right to Party

It’s the same old story – parents go away for a weekend, 16 yr old son throws huge party, inviting anyone who wants to come along. Party gets out of hand and causes a riot. The kid is amusingly unrepentant and then gives a hilarious interview on Oz tv. ‘I’ll say sorry but I won’t take off my sunglasses’.

Whilst we’re on an mp3 tip, Dr. Chlorophyll has a live UNKLE set (Vegas Oct ’07) and a live Portishead set (8th Dec ’07) up at the moment.
Please let me know if y’all want more mp3 posts, I’ve always been hesitant to do them in the past but I always seem to get quite postive feedback when I do so I’m happy to do more (mostly non-mainstream stuff though).

Los Straitjackets

You should all know by now that I’m a fan of many, many types of music and one area I love that is deeply unfashionable, never getting any press is garage punk, surf and anything with -billy on the end (rocka-, pyscho- etc). One band that cover a lot of these genres are Los Straitjackets, a purely instrumental combo who wear mexican wrestling masks (does it get any better than that?). Check them out joking about at a pre-show in Spain – skip to just after 2.5 mins in to see them do the Batman theme with all 3 guitarists playing behind their heads and even the drummer attempting to do the same with the snare!. More funny footage with synchronised head bopping here. You can pick up a lot of their stuff through the ever-marvellous Twilight Zone mp3 blog which has tons of highly obscure but very cool stuff.

Boxing Clever

Chess Boxing probably won’t make the next Olympic Games but it’s an interesting idea to say the least. One round of chess, followed by one round of boxing and so on until knockout or checkmate.
