Excellent viral video about Viral Videos from the Human Giant team (NSFW audio in places).

Don’t think I’ll be playing those to my kids!

Bad Baby Names
We can all laugh at Bad Baby Names but think of the poor parents trying to give their child a chance in life by standing out from the crowd (and thus ensuring years of beatings and public humiliation). Johnny Cash’s ‘A Boy Named Sue’ springs to mind here. I always think you should put yourself into the child’s shoes and imagine them having to spell their name out every time they phone a call centre – that’s why my children are called Whiskey Tango and Foxtrot.
Do’s and don’ts with babies
I think most of you will have seen the hilarious Do’s and don’ts with babies already but if not, here it is.
Quake Live
Coming to your browser soon is Quake Live. Yep, Quake, in your browser, for free (it’s ad-supported). You can sign up for the beta on the official site.
The World’s Greatest Music Collection
Not sure how accurate the description of the World’s Greatest Music Collection is but that’s what they’re calling it on eBay.
On a side note, does anyone know if Pandemonium is still around on Oxford Road in Manchester? That guy had an awesomely huge collection – he used to get two copies of everything, one for his collection and one to sell – he even used to sell ‘blank’ cassette tapes with individual tracks on it if you couldn’t afford the vinyl as long as he ‘approved’ of the track (which is how I got my first copy of Iggy and the Stooges ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’).

On a more serious note…
Nah, just kidding, we don’t do serious here often. So here’s some fuel for your next pub bore discussion, compare this graph of Women’s preferred pen1s size with the Wikipedia article on Human Pen1s Size. Or just settle for the fact that we’re all average (it’s just that some of us are more average than the rest).
Speak Lol Speak
For those who don’t get l0lcatz, you should peruse the Definitive Lolcats Glossary to learn to Speak Lol Speak. If you already ‘get it’ then how about the first l0lcat proposal.
It’s not Lupus, it’s never Lupus
Fans of House (or ‘Whatever happened to Doogie Howser MD‘ as mrs grom calls it) will appreciate the one trick pony that is the It’s not Lupus website. Everyone just need know it’s not lupus, it’s never lupus.
Many more single-serving websites listed on kottke.
Yo Gabba Gabba
We blogged about Yo Gabba Gabba, the awesome kids tv show about a year ago when it started in the US. It’s finally about to start in the UK (Feb 18th on NickJr channel). I’d highly recommend it to both parents and music lovers – what other show aimed at pre-schoolers would feature acts like Cornelius (a perennial pri.me.uk favourite), the Shins and Biz Markie? (Actually, Pancake Mountain would and we featured that at the same time as we first featured Yo Gabba Gabba – Pancake Mountain has had The Go! Team, Henry Rollins, Arcade Fire and George Clinton amongst others).
PicAnswers
PicAnswers is a site based on the principle that a picture is worth a thousand words. Upload or link to a picture and ask a question about it. Most common question seems to be ‘What IS this?’. It’s actually quite addictive.
Speech Recognition’s not quite there yet
Speech recognition has been around for years but as you can see from this funny video, it’s not quite workable yet. I think this guy got off lightly, at least the pc understood a lot of his accent, most of my friends have broad Yorkshire, Scottish or Irish accents and they have no hope at all.
TV Easel
I love the idea of the TV Easel, if for no other reason than it puts the tv at the right level for your eyes, I still don’t understand why so many people mount their flat screens on the wall like a painting when you sit down to watch them, you’re forever getting a sore neck from looking up instead of straight ahead.
Spore Spawns Soon
We’ve been waiting and waiting for Spore to come out for years now and it’s finally got a release date of Sept 5th 2008 (oddly, USA gets it 2 days later). If you can’t wait that much longer then they will be offshoots released prior to the full release such as the DS Spore Creatures. The official site is spore.com and has loads more movies and screenshots. I’m drooling here.
St Skeletor’s Day 2008
If Valentines Day is just too much for you then why not celebrate St Skeletor’s Day 2008 this year instead?
Whilst we’re on Skeletor check out the funnily re-dubbed Skeletor Show on youtube.
Eaten By Trees
I’ve been meaning to take a photo of a street sign near my old house that has been eaten by a tree but until then, here are some other great examples of things Eaten By Trees.
Mythbusters : Airplane on a Conveyor Belt
So there we were at the office watercooler a few days ago having the Airplane on a Conveyor Belt discussion/arguement. I then get home to find a mail waiting for me saying that Mythbusters have already covered this.
Part two is here
Wedding Photos We’ll All Remember
An excellent round-up of Wedding Photos We’ll All Remember.
Don’t miss parts 2 & 3.

The Cost of Happiness
Instead of wasting your money on a book telling you how to be happy, why not just read this blog post and save Yourself $40. It’s very good advice.

Color Pencils Reviewed
If you’ve ever wondered how colour pencils hold up against more modern communication tools then check out this thorough and highly comical review of Color Pencils. Along with the ambidextrous nature, the lack of even 8 bit colour schemes I would like to add the multilingual nature of these colo(u)r pencils.
Neil Gaiman’s Birthday Thing
As a birthday treat for his blog/journal, Harper Collins have given Neil Gaiman permission to post one of his books online, for free but he wants you to tell him which one. I voted for American Gods since I think it’s probably the best introduction to his written work but it’s not my favourite (that changes every time I read a new one of his).
Down With This Sort of Thing
In the ongoing war of anonymous vs scientology (or logic & reason vs the psycho nutcases as I prefer to know it), this weekend’s London protests against the Xenu-ists were a classic example of how to protest properly – everyone wore ‘V‘ masks, chanted sublimely ridiculous slogans (‘Horse’, ‘Cake’) and played Rick Astley very loudly. Genius.

Clever web dev trick
Here’s a nice little web developer trick for only showing the Social Networking submit buttons for sites that the user has previously visited by checking browser history. In other words, if you’ve been to dig and reddit, it’ll show those buttons but not deli.cio.us etc.
Pedantry Galore
For a committed pedant like myself (dumb people please note I said pedant, not paedo) resources such as the Guardian newspaper’s style guide are indispensable (n.b. you can download the whole thing as a pdf from that link if you look closely). It lays out very simply the proper usage of grammar, punctuation and style and is a great source for settling arguments with other pedants. The BBC also have a Pronunciation unit which follows the same lines and there’s also the editorial guidelines section of their site which has lots of useful info but needs to be waded through to get to what you want.
How did they get that name game
I was pretty chuffed to be scored as having the same amount of musical knowledge as John Peel when playing the How did they get that name? game. It’s another great game from b3tan monkeon. (Oh yeah, it’s worth playing the game several times as the questions change each time).
Chickipedia
I think we need to start another regular feature on pri.me for all of the wiki sites that seem to exist mostly because the name sounds vaguely like Wikipedia. Today’s is Chickipedia – The Wiki of Hot Women (apparently) (oh and some pages on the site are NSFW). We can now add this to the whiskypedia, mickeypedia and wookiepedias of the world.
Tribute Band(s) of the Week
Much as I’m not a fan of tribute bands, I do love the ingenuity of the names. Two funny ones this week – halfarsedhalfbiscuit (a Half Man Half Biscuit tribute act for our younger/foreign readers) and the Sex Patels (who sound truly awful but the poster made me giggle when I drove past it the other day).
Sola Rola
It’s a shame that the Sola Rola game is so easy, I’ve up to level 16 in aonly a few minutes and there hasn’t been anything to challenge me yet – nice idea around level 14 when the two blobs in the gravity maze get joined together by a bungee – I’ll give it another few levels and see it it gets harder.
OOTTINLTO – Handtekening
You could all probably guess that Handtekening is the Dutch word for ‘signature’ from these GIS results apart from the one ‘bum note’.
