How to Avoid Huge Ships
Judging from the Title and comments about this book, it seems like essential reading. I’m also tickled by the ‘Customers who bought this also bought; ‘Lois Lenz, Lebian Secretary’, ‘Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America’ and ‘The Big Book of Lesbian Horse Stories”. The mind boggles.
Taters of the Lost Ark
Another movie, another Mr Potato Head tie-in. As much as I want to like the Taters of the Lost Ark one, I was disturbed to see the ‘Press and release the hat to hear three short segments from the “Indiana Jones” theme song’ blurb – Mr Potato HEad shouldn’t have any electronics in it IMHO.
Happy Birthday to Me
I spent a highly enjoyable night out this weekend. Nah – fsck it – it was awesome. Especially from my VIP viewpoint from the side of stage. If you’ve not seen Gogol Bordello live yet then make the effort – best live band around at the moment.
thanks for the pass Noo
The Specials Reform!!
I never thought I’d see the day – The Specials are going to reform! I’m not a fan of comebacks at all but I’m very excited about this one.
Geek Toy – SATA USB Hub
I like the idea of the SATA HDD Dock with 4-Port USB Hub for making data backup and recovery stupidly easy.
How Many Cops Does It Take…
Question: How Many Cops Does It Take to Bust a Ring of Cellphone Thieves?
Answer: 600 apparently.
BennyLava
A very funny sub-dub brought to my attention by this week’s Holy Moly newsletter – Benny Lava.
Photoshop Express
Holy Poop! Adobe have launched Photoshop Express – an free online version of their famous image editing software. Click on the ‘Take a test drive’ button to see for yourselves how cool this is.
Bacon Skins
I’ve come across many odd forms of rolling papers in my time (I worked in a hippy/head shop for 4 yrs on and off when I was a student) but I hadn’t seen Bacon papers before – love the ‘suitable for vegetarians’ comment. Many other flavours including absinthe and tequila (am I right in thinking that Absinthe is still illegal in the US?). This all reminds me of a customer who tried so hard to impress by using liquorice papers and a mixture of menthol and cherry tobacco – I’ve never smelt or tasted anything quite as gross!
Competition Marshmallow Eating
Another ridiculous Japanese game show, this time featuring competitive marshmallow eating. As inventive as ever.
Rick on Rollin’
Rick Astley on Rickrolling.
Cobain
The past few weeks have seen a rise in buzz around Kurt Cobain (there must be an anniversary coming up). We have the Kurt Cobain Action Figure, this cartoon, the Cobain Converse kicks and on a related tip, Courtney Love claiming that her daughter by Kurt is a ‘she’s a gay man trapped in a woman’s body‘ (she must be so proud of her mom!) and finally the Nevermind Baby is now 17 (& I feel old!).
YouTube Awards 2007
In case you missed it a week or so ago, the first Annual YouTube Awards were announced last week. Most of our readers will have seen the entries before but there are some worth chceking out if you haven’t already, especially ‘The Guild’ series.
btracs
If you use torrents a lot but get frustrated that so much junk is out there then you’re bound to be using public trackers. If you want the good stuff then you need to get in on community trackers – many of which are closed and either require you to be invited or have a maximum number of members (you get dropped off if your ratio of uploads/downloads isn’t balanced to stop leechers). To keep an eye on which ones are accepting new members at any point in time, keep track with BTRACS aka the Bittorrent TRackers Automatic Checking System.
Where’s Darwin?
Proving that evolution takes a long time to filter stupidity out is this person asking why his girlfriend hasn’t had a period since she got pregnant. It’s a cover-up clearly, your girlfriend is being used as a vampire-making clone machine by the military. Numpty!
*Edit* try the Google Cache for the page if it’s been taken down.
7 Shades of Wrongness
How many things can you find just plain wrong with this picture? The first thing I noticed was the awful lamp in the corner.
Art in The Simpsons
The obsessives guys at the Simpsons Park site have a very indepth round-up of famous paintings featured in The Simpsons.
Telling Tales with Google Maps
Penguin have, what will unfortunately probably be described using words like web 2.0 and mash-up, had a good idea of publishing a story told using Google Maps – The 21 Steps by Charles Cumming is part of the 6 stories, 6 authors, 6 weeks series.
Guitar Hero DS Style
I wasn’t expecting a version of Guitar Hero for the DS but they’ve come up with a workable peripheral that looks workable. 4 buttons only instead of 5 so the uber mode will be a little easier I guess.
Cute Lip Dub
A very cute lip dub of Build Me Up Buttercup fresh from SXSW.
Oddest Mash-up yet
This has to be the oddest mash-up I’ve come across so far. Enter your last.fm username and the lets play ukulele site will show you the ukulele tabs/chrods for the tunes you like and listen to. (That should pay you back for the HMHB tip-off earlier Al!).
Wikihistory
Here’s a fantastic new short story by an apparent first-timer called Desmond Warzel Wikihistory takes an unusual format of a wiki discussion page and I think it’s superb. I’d like to read more of this guy’s work.
Changing chords
This is probably going to be the most revolutionary tool for musicians since the sampler was invented. A beardy German chap has developed a piece of software that creates editable notes inside samples. This basically means that you can grab the intro chord from “A hard days night” and then have the ability to edit every single note in the chord to make a whole new song. Watch this video to see what I mean (about the beard and the cool software)
CSI: Ambleside
Al – thanks you for making my day by pointing out that the next Half Man Half Biscuit album ‘CSI:Ambleside‘ is due out in just over a months time.
SordoMusic
Sordo is a great resource for music if you can work out how to get in (hint – look up).
KP3 Touchpad Dynamic Effect Sampler
Me want. The KP3 Touchpad Dynamic Effect Sampler is the big brother (or bastard offspring) of the mini-Kaos and the Kaossilator that we’ve previously featured. In the other models I complained about the lack of save and midi – this module lets you save onto SD card and has midiin/out. More info here.
Loving the Alien
You’d have to be several stages down the freaky line to start pondering how you could improve on your normal, run of the mill, inflate-a-mate but what on earth could lead you to decide to design an Area 51 Love Doll complete with ‘ pussy-shaped mouth, 3 supples breasts, suction cup fingers and ass-shaped ears. Yep, I just typed ‘ass-shaped ears’! I also dread to think what the ‘Alien Lu8e’ would be like – glow in the dark? (Site NSFW).
cheers, I think, KD
Possible OOTTINLTO
Ok, bit of controversy here – is this GIS for banana, a OOTTINLTO or not – there’s the requisite NSFW result but two images feature humans and bananas, all the others just have bananas, it’s just funny that one is the usual rude one.
cheers Nik
Buffering….
LOL. Excellent piece of graphic vandalism.
