I think I can mostly understand any word shorter than 3 letters on the Retroencabulator information page. I’m hoping it’s a spoof .

Mugshot du jour

A superb mugshot of Matthew Gibeault, arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. He should be left off without charge for bringing joy to so many via this shot.

Recession? What recession? You can now apparently get, not only a $1,000 Sushi Roll but also Burger King are doing an £85 Kobe Beef Burger (~$170). I can see the chavs who go into our local BK buying those, honest!

Glad All Over

The next few posts are all reader submissions from the past two weeks when I’ve not been around. Many thanks to everyone who keeps sending us stuff to post, someday I’ll find a proper way to repay you all ;o).
First up, a joyful little movie featuring those odd inflatable advertising tube men, called Glad. It just makes me happy.

Insert ‘Trip’ Joke here

I think I must be one of the majority of people who thought that LSD Inventor Albert Hofmann was already dead but, no, apparently he died yesterday from a heart attack at the ripe old age of 102. Hope he sees some pretty colours in heaven.

Rimshot

Stop those filthy thoughts right now – this isn’t a dirty site, but a purely practical one that’s really starting to get on my work colleagues’ nerves about now. Every time someone says anything remotely funny and that could be an innuendo (or even just to shut boring people up), just have Instant Rimshot loaded, speakers on and click the red button, I’ve used it over 30 times today alone.

Humph gets the Hump

Sad news that all-round good guy, jazz legend and humourist Humphrey Lyttelton died this weekend. I had the pleasure of seeing him lead a couple of rounds of I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue last year and although frail, his mind was as sharp as ever. He’ll be seriously missed – they should have closed Mornington Crescent station for a day as a tribute.
(Did anyone else know he played on Radiohead’s Amnesiac album? I certainly didn’t).

Sorry

No posts for the past few days as I’ve been pretty ill and haven’t even been able to drag my poor body in front of the pc. Off to sunny (hopefully) Anglesey for a couple of days to join mrs grom and the kids so normal service will be resumed next week unless any of the other residents of prime towers steps up. If you’re bored then why not surf the archives, we’ve got over 6 years worth!

Pure Essence

Take a cult classic and strip it of everything but the important parts and you have something like these;
He’s Dead Jim
Lebowski’s Dudes
Fargo’s Yahs.
Or pick your own from Andy Baio’s list
I can’t believe no-one has done every Keanu Whoa yet.
thanks Kim

El Caminito del Ray

In 1901 it was obvious that the workers of the Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls needed a walkway to cross between the falls, to provide transport of materials, vigilance and maintenance of the channel. Construction of the walkway lasted four years. It was finished in 1905.

In 1921 the king Alfonso XIII had to cross the walkway for the inauguration of the dam Conde del Guadalhorce, and it became known by its present name.

The walkway has now gone many years without maintenance, and is in a highly deteriorated and dangerous state. It is one meter (3 ft) in width, and is over 700 feet (200 m) above the river. Nearly all of the path has no handrail. Some parts of the walkway have completely collapsed and have been replaced by a beam and a metallic wire on the wall. Many people have lost their lives on the walkway in recent years. After four people died in two accidents in 1999 and 2000, the local government closed the entrances. However, adventurous tourists still find their way into the walkway.

OOTTINLTO – Angela Merkel

You’ve got to feel slightly sorry for the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the victim of this odd one out. Not only is she mostly famous outside of Germany for having been very disconcertingly groped by Dubya, the odd one out is also a giant ass!.
good work Hugh

Ollie Johnston – 8 decades of ink

A sad RIP to Ollie Johnston who died last night. Mr Johnston worked on Disney animations spanning eight decades, counting virtually every one of Disney’s top-rated classic pieces as one of his as part of the Nine Old Men.

SecretLeeds

Why have I not come across the SecretLeeds website before? Dedicated to ‘investigating quirky, unusual or mysterious aspects of the city of Leeds’ it’s an ideal website for me and many of our more local readers (any suggestions for similar sites that our non-Yorkshire readers may have are also welcome). I have a feeling that this summer will consist of me trying to break into lots of bunkers and underground passages with a camera.

On my head – the hairstyles of Black Flag

Henry used to stay with my next door neighbours whenever he played in Leeds, and watching his band grind out a 2hr mind alteringly heavy blues jam for a soundcheck at Leeds Poly in 199X is one of the highlights of my life as a lowly stagehand. With this in mind, following the hairstyles of such punk supremos never really crossed my mind until today

Flickr Video

I’m quite surprised by this announcement that Flickr now has Video. Only Pro users can upload but anyone can view. Currently limited to 90 seconds so it’s no youtube but because it’s not youtube, you have more control over who can see the videos – a much better way of sharing, say, family vids.

For a proof of concept, creating a version of Super Mario in 14kb of Javascript is pretty damn impressive considering it makes no other outside calls, all graphics, music etc is done from the one tiny file.

Stranger Photos Have Happened

You all know that we love random acts here at Prime Towers so the Stranger Photos Have Happened page brought a smile to my face. They attached a camera to a bench with a sign that said ‘ I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I’ll be back later this evening to pick it up.’ The entire film was shot and he posted the images to the site. He got back a great set of photos of strangers living their lives.
