Gin & Titonic
The Gin and Titonic ice cube tray made me laugh.
Steampunk Wallpaper
I’m loving the concept of Steampunk Wallpaper.com – let’s hope that they can keep up with the aim of one new desktop wallpaper a day.
Surfing a Volcano
When I hear about volcanoes erupting, I must admit that surfing the volcano does not appear on my mental list of associations.
cheers Steve
Banksy Revealed<
The goddawful UK ‘newspaper’ the Mail on Sunday claims to have discovered the identity of Banksy. Being the tedious and odious paper it is, it tries to spin that he went went to a posh school and that this is somehow something we should care about but quite frankly, I don’t care who he is, I like his work. I’ve got many pieces of artwork in my house by artists about which I know little and it doesn’t make any difference to my enjoyment of the pieces.
Return of the Living Goo
Bung some custard or cornstarch-rich liquid on a metal tray and stick it on a bass bin – you’ve got yourself some Dancing Liquid thanks to the non-newtonian properties.
Don’t mess with the Gaylords
Let’s face it, you’d have to be pretty tough to admit to being a member of the Almighty Gaylords – a street gang from Chicago. I can only presume that it doesn’t mean the same as it does over here.
Gaylords.
Good Old Games
Just came across an interesting teaser site – GOG.com claims to be launching in September with the aim of giving instant gaming gratification. GOG stands for Good Old Gaming and says it’s a download site for lots of old games for your pc. No DRM/copy protection and cheap prices. Games look like including Colin McRae Rally, TOCA racing, Sacrifice, MDK and all claim to be XP & Vista compatible. I’d like to try a few old games out on a much better pc than I ever had back then and of course, if they have Kingpin then I’ll be downloading it immediately!
The Cassette Tape Skeleton
Wondering what to do with your old cassette tapes? Check out the Cassette Tape Skeleton at the International Museum of Surgical Science.
How to get Fired
Erstwhile Top Gear presenter, James May was fired, back in 1992, from his journalism job on Autocar magazine when it was discovered that the raised caps for his stories spelled out an interesting message. Good on ya James. Approved.
Flickr user gets hit by lightning
Flickr user SlowLoris was filming a storm from here window when she was hit by lightning through her camera. No lasting harm done it seems but it makes for a scary video that reminded me a bit of Blair Witch Project when she screams – it’s that kind of unnerving natural fear. If you don’t want to hear the scream then have the edited version instead.
BarCamp Leeds {2008}
The only conference self-respecting geek need attend this year has just been announced – BarCamp Leeds {2008} is returning to Old Broadcasting House on August 16th & 17th. Seriously, do sign up quickly, there have been 55 signups in the past few hours already and the venue can only hold double that so get clicking. You’ll thank me later.
The Complete Led Zeppelin for $9.99
How do you fancy the Complete Led Zeppelin for $9.99? Rhapsody can sort you out with high quality, legal, DRM free mp3s – yep, every Led Zep track for 9.99!
The iPhone 3G
This Joy of Tech comic pretty much sums up the attitude of the Apple fanboys I work with. I stand by my description of the iPhone as a great Flickr/photo viewer but a rubbish phone.
Star Fighter
Star Fighter looks like your typical scrolling retro space shooter but there are a lot of new touches that elevate it above the usual games – give it a try but do read the help page for instructions first though.
Forficula auricularia – the lucky, lucky bug
yada, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah…last sentence – Wha?!?!?!!.
Coincidence Photography
If you ignore the photoshopped one withthe rabbit and the obvious advert (afro bus shselter) then the rest of these Coincidence Photographs are pretty cool. (but they didn’t make me laugh as much as Eda Cherry’s jetpack photos.
I Met The Walrus
In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation.
thanks Kim
Circle of Life
To my mind, you can’t get a better feature for your garden than the Zombie sculpture. You see, this is what happens if you use 2-4-5 Trioxin as a weedkiller.
Human Mirror
Yay – another great improv everwhere – the Human Mirror prank involved a large amount of pairs of twins in a train carriage mimicing each others’ moves.
More4′s Kubrick season promo
UK tv channel More4 are starting a Kubrick season and they’ve done a superb promo tribute to the Shining. There’s a lot of love and attention to detail in this – I watched it 3 times and was still spotting new bits in the background.
Bubble Calender
Could you resist the temptation to pop more than one bubble every day? I know I couldn’t.
Pixar – officially nice guys
The best marketing is that which you don’t pay for or try to get. Pixar know this. At the tail end of last year, the trailer for the new Wall-E movie came out. A girl called Courtney saw it and burst into tears. Since this happened every time she watched it, she decided to film herself crying and posted it on her blog. It’s quite funny and touching and she was rightly embarrassed by it. She started getting a few emails from the team at Pixar, this was followed by a crew jacket and a mail saying thanks for inspiring them that they were doing the right thing. Next thing she knows, she’s invited to Pixar to attend the employee screening of the movie and gets a standing ovation from teh team. Pixar haven’t made any mention about this, it wasn’t a marketing ploy, just a nice company doing a nice thing.
New Chess Boxing Champ
We posted about Chess Boxing a couple of years ago and I’m pleased that Nikolai Sazhin, a 19yr old Russian, is the new Chess boxing champion of the world.
Next week the Ju-Jitsu Freecell finals.
Today is the Day
Very odd and unexpected series of photos telling a rather touching story – Today is the Day.
Letter From God To Man
Letter From God To Man is the latest video by Dan Le Sac VS. Scroobius Pip. Nice.
Hereamug, Thereamug, Everywhereamug
A Theremin made out of a cup of tea? That’ll be the Thereamug. Awesome.
Why Grandma, what a big … you have
It’s Grandma’s birthday, what shall we get her? Hmm, I know!
GreenScreen Fun
Regular contributor Kim is back suggesting this highly inappropriate green screen video featuring Bobby Lee.
