Summer Heights High

I’ve just seen some highly depressing clips for the American remake of Kath & Kim. The Australian original was excellent and hilarious, the US version stars ”’Selma Blair”’. I won’t comment any further other that to stress that you should watch the original and NOT the US version (unlike ”’The Office”’ which did kinda work as a remake).
This also made me pray to any deity listening that no American tv executive ever watches Summer Heights High. ”’Summer Heights High”’ is one of the best series I’ve seen this year and I’d urge you all to watch it. It stars ”’Chris Lilley”’ in the 3 main roles (but not in an ”’Eddie Murphy”’ way!) as Jonah, a magnificently disruptive schoolboy, Ja’Mie, a spoilt schoolgirl and Mr G the misunderstood drama teacher. Check out the clips on the website and hopefully you’ll get a flavour of the show (just don’t tell any American TV execs – they’d only want to re-film it with name actors – something this perfect shouldn’t be touched).

Elizabethan Ruff Calculator

I’m pretty sure that the Elizabethan Ruff Calculator fulfills most of the criteria for our occasional series of ridiculously specific websites (the series is so occasional that I’ve forgotten the acronym we gave the series!).

Sudo buy me a t-shirt

T3m3r1ty has pointed out the awesomosity of the two new additions to the xkcd clothing range – the Linux cheat shirt and the Regex cheat skirt. Nerdy but cool (a bit like the comic itself).

50 Animals Squashed Against Glass

Do I really have to write a description for a page entitled 50 Animals Squashed Against Glass?

How Not To Shoot A Gun

Proving Darwin was almost right – How Not To Shoot A Gun should be a lesson to us all – I’ve no idea what the lesson is though apart from dubbing Yakkity Yak on top of any video makes it funnier.

The Long-Lost Buffy Cartoon

I must admit to not having heard of the Long-Lost Buffy Cartoon before but here it is. I’ll reserve judgement until I’m feeling a little less stressed as my first viewing of this didn’t impress me much. I can tell you that most of the voices are played by the original cast with the glaring exception of ”’Sarah Michelle Gellar”’ who was ‘busy’ and was replaced by ”’Giselle Loren”’ who played Buffy’s voice for the Buffy computer games.

Blobbing Out

I must confess to never having heard of ”’blobbing”’ before but from the looks of these three videos it looks like damn fine fun.

Nevermind the 40yr old virgin

Last year saw a movie entitled the ”’40yr old virgin”’ – that’s nothing, a rare reptile from New Zealand is due to become a dad at 111. ”’Blue balls”’ anyone?

Polymeme

Polymeme‘s a good idea for a news aggregator – it claims to be like ”’Digg”’ and ”’Reddit”’ but with a different set of algorithms – it seems to monitor and smaller set of sites each of which are more specific to individual topics so you should get more interesting articles which aren’t picked up by the other aggregators. It looks good so far and the previous Tom Waits link came from it so it can’t be too bad.

Glitter And Doom

Sorry for the lack of posts – busy at work and home pc has suffered a rather major breakdown.
To tide you over, have a totally free stream of an entire Tom Waits Concert recorded only a few weeks ago on his current ”’PEHDTSCKJMBA”’ courtesy of the ever-awesome ”’NPR”’. You can get to download it if you sign up for the newsletter too. They also have loads more concerts including recent ones from ”’Fleet Foxes”’, ”’Ting Tings”’, ”’Arcade Fire”’ and ”’Spiritualized”’. It’s all pant-wettingly good stuff.

Wonderland Expedition Kit

I’ve mentioned before about my little obsession with ”’Alice in Wonderland”’ (at last count I had around 27 copies of the book!). Imagine my complete and utter awe at the Wonderland Expedition Kit made as a birthday present. Stunningly gorgeous.

Instant Testosterone

Could a gadget get any more male? I think I did a little man wee when I saw the Kobalt toolchest that has a fridge, Pioneer sound system (iPod ready of course), LED lighting and integrated power strip as well as the usual drawers for your tools.
