The Singapore Grand Prix

It was a fantastic race and these are some great pictures of the first night-time Singapore Grand Prix.

Adobe – Boo Hiss

Why do they keep on doing this? It’s been going on for years but has never made sense to me – Adobe’s new CS4 Master Collection is so much cheaper in the USA that I could fly there, buy a copy, spend the night in a hotel, fly back and still have change in my pocket instead of buying it from the UK. There’s no excuse – and they wonder why Photoshop is one of the most, if not the most pirated software.

Scoville Death

An amateur cook died last week after taking part in a dare to make and eat the hottest chilli sauce they could. Interestingly the chillis were home grown and they didn’t seem to use any of the sauces you can buy.
As T3m3rity points out, it’s worth posting this for the comment below the article;”If they can blame Amy Winehouse for a kid’s heroin overdose shouldn’t they be blaming Gordon Ramsey for this poor blighter’s demise?

He’s Turned Emo

I think we featured the Lancashire Hot Pots a while back but this lego remake of their He’s Turned Emo video is great and has been going round the office all day. (The original video is here).

Chainsaw Carving

I’m really happy this morning, I’ve just been given a fantastic chainsaw carving done by Tim Burgess (no, not that one). By a very bizarre coincidence, the tree that the carving came from was provided by my old boss from way back when I was a lumberjack (and yes, I’ve heard all the jokes).
I’m really impressed with Tim’s work and I’d love to get some lessons from him someday.

Reverse OOTTINLTO

In a neat twist, ted has found a reverse OOTTINLTO – if you GIS for drilled then the results are all very NSFW apart from one solitary result. Good work that man, I think.

OOTTINLTO – Yello

It’s long overdue so I’m ecstatic to be able to bring you another of the long line of elusive OOTTINLTO Google Image Searches, this time for the band Yello – the One of These Things That Is Not Like The Others is, of course, NSFW as all true ones should be.
many, many thanks, Pricey

Nice Vid – shame about the song

David Ford’s Go To Hell is a fantastic one-shot video that’s right up my street technically (much like a pair of my favourite ever live performances by KT Tunstall and Liam Finn) but I’m not a fan of the song itself – sub David Gray/James Blunt-y cr4p.

IT was a long time coming (and it ain’t over yet) but Jack Thompson has been Disbarred. Of course, he’ll fight it and prolong the agony.

SFW Pr0n

They say it’s SFW pr0n but the new ad from Diesel probably won’t be shown on tv. (and it’s nicked directly – but probably with permission, you’d hope, from the guys at SFW-Pr0n.
I’d still class both links as NSFW unless you work in an office like mine (or maybe Carloz, Solomon and Olz – in fact most people I know could get away with this!)

National Stereotypes

Less than a day ago this appeared on the interwebs. A matter of hours later this response appeared, swiftly followed by this and just now this cropped up – any bets on which country will wade in next?

Cisco home page FAIL

I was on Cisco’s site this morning and noticed this home page FAIL – I thought it was my browser being weird to start with so I’m glad I found the explanation – it was funny though, like reading an Irish webpage!

A Shattering Wii Experience

I know I’m just doing their marketing job for them but I am really impressed with the experiencewii/Youtbue tie-in. It’s a great idea done really well (except it didn’t work in ”’Google Chrome”’ for me earlier).

Z-Rox

I like this idea and luckily it works well. Z-Rox is a 1D game. Yep, less than 8bit and with none of your fancy 3d graphics here, you simply have to identify the symbol from a ’1D’ view of it. The first one was hard then I rattled through the next pile until we hit symbols which threw me for a bit as did the move to using words as the answers but the learning ramp is pretty good. It’s addictive enough to keep me playing for ‘just one more level’.

Rank? Gross? Skank? Repulsive? or Home, Sweet(Lord!)Home. I’ve been in some bad houses but they’ve all stopped short of this disaster zone.

Once you’ve turned the irritating music off, Light Bot‘s not a bad game at all and as a bonus it forces you to think with a kind of programming logic.

Why You Should Never Ask for Help on teh Interwebs

I’ve been laughing about this thread for ages as one of the main protagonists is a friend of mine (Hey Jimbo!). What I didn’t realise is that it’s been one of the biggest hits on Digg and Reddit this year!. So without further ado, Ladies and Genitalmen, Why you shouldn’t ask for help on the internet.

Feeling a bit Hue-y

If you fancy sending your eyes a bit skwiffy on a Monday morning then try the Colour IQ Hue Test, it’s pretty tricky. Dan scored 12 on his first go, I scored 23 so I was feeling pretty smug until I realised that a lower score is better although in my defence my work monitor is awful but at home I have properly colour calibrated monitors thanks to one of these so I hope I’d score higher at home. (yeah, right!)
thanks Dan

Kim’s Links

I’m in a rush and I have a feeling that I might have already posted the first two of these links before but here are three links from loyal reader/submitter Kim;
Double Guitar (I still don’t see the point apart from p1ssing off your roadie who has to carry it about)
Strapless Panties (probably NSFW (that’s both Not Safe for Work and Not Safe for Your Wife) and finally
Bill Gates last keynote speech (actually surprisingly funny – certainly better than the new spots with ”’Seinfeld”’)
Cheers KD!

Here’s this week’s playlist – I got a lot of good feedback from the last one – mostly to the email address, are you lot afraid of using the comments? We thrive on comments, it lets us know that we’re loved and/or hated.
Suggestions for tracks of styles for the next playlist are welcomed.

Canon Hacking with the DS

This is my kind of hack – we’ve already covered alternative camera firmwares and cheap remote shutters made from cell phone hands-free kits but Steve Chapman has made a »Nintendo DS Canon camera controller and it’s a thing of beauty. Making use of the DS is a stroke of genius since it has a microphone built-in which will allow it to do high-speed photography (like this kit but with less hassle) and shutter bracketing for making ”’HDR”’ shots. I want to know more about the physical connector so I can build one and get hold of his software.

Mona Lisa in 80 Milliseconds!

If anyone ever asks why you need a decent graphics card to render graphics quickly, Adam and Jamie from the ever-excellent ”’Mythbusters”’ have the ultimate demonstration for you. Watch them draw a MONA LISA in 80 milliseconds and demonstrate the difference between CPU processing and GPU parallel processing. If you don’t want geeky then they fire 1100 paint guns at the same time which would be cool regardless.

Pencil Rebel

I’m hugely impressed with the work of Grzegorz Kozakiewicz, the brains behind Pencil Rebel. go and play the game and tell me that you’re not blown away by the amount of work and variety of skills that went into it – true mixed media. If you still aren’t that impressed then check out the production video to see how it was made. Grzegorz is an ex-colleague of one of my friends and is available for work – he’s wasted in his current job so if anyone wants to hire him then let me know.

EepyBird’s Sticky Note experiment

Oh eepybird, how we love you and your Sticky Note experiment. If it wasn’t already an advert for office supplies I think Sony would be banging down your door for the next Bravia adverts.
cheers Steve
