Help me please
Does anyone know anywhere that I can buy one of these Resistor lead forming tools in the UK? I’ve looked everywhere and can only find them for sale in the US which wouldn’t normally be a problem but they only cost $5-10 but the shipping is another $27 from most places and then I’ll get hit for another $10 import duty on top of that which is rather annoying. Unless popcorn’s is plurging out at Evil Mad Scienctist‘s shop again. I’m about to start a project that requires several hundred components and this tool would save me hours and hours of lead bending as well as making the finished product look much neater.

Hammertime!
San Juan de la Vega is a town in the state of ”’Guanajuato”’ and every year they have a carnival of which the Hammertime! ritual seems a regular part. These guys are certified nutters – watch to the end.
Thanks Mr Coo!
Astroboy Teaser Trailer
The ”’Astroboy”’ Teaser Trailer is out – I’ll add this to the ‘Please, please don’t suck’ pile along with ”’Watchmen”’.
Bettie Page RIP
It’s been a bad week – first ”’Ivor the Engine”’, ”’Bagpuss”’ and ”’The Clangers”’ creator Oliver Postgate died and now I hear that 50s pin-up queen Bettie Page has died. Bettie was the very embodiment of an icon – even if you don’t think you’ve heard of her I can guarantee that you’ll have seen her thousands of times in photos, stylised drawings or imitations of her unique style. Bettie’s image was about fun and happiness, she had the cheekiest smile you’ve ever seen and despite the image most people have of her, she was a very clean-cut, honest and innocent girl. Bettie dropped out of public view a long time ago and resisted all attempts to bring her back to fame – she was far happier being remembered as she was although it didn’t fit in with her beliefs later in life. She will be missed but her image will, undoubtedly remain strong for a long time. Click on this ”’Bettie Page”’ link to search on youtube, wikipedia etc for much more of her – the internet has been her home since it’s birth.
Must see Loser
This guy could not possibly be any more of a weiner – How Not to Fight a Speeding Ticket (you MUST watch to the end for the pay-off). Vernon has a bit of a track record as a Master of Fail.
Albert Einstein or Marilyn Monroe?
I thought everyone had seen the Albert Einstein or Marilyn Monroe? illusion but clearly not so here it is.

YouTube moments
For no reason other than I love them, have some footage from Johnny Cash at San Quentin and The Good Ship Venus version from this album (which we’ve blogged about before).
Yo Frankie!
Cast your mind back a month or two to when we posted the ‘Open-source’ cartoon Big Buck Bunny for which you could grab all of the wireframes, models and textures to make your own version – the same project has now delivered Yo Frankie! as free, open source game and as expected, it looks great and you can grab the source and all materials used to edit or make your own version. I’m grabbing it now but I’ve got high hopes. Oh, if I hadn’t mentioned it, it’s cross platform too so Linux and Mac users aren’t left out as usual. Check out the gameplay demo video for a sneak peek before you download it.
Obento!
Anna the Red makes some stunning bento boxes for her boyfriend (I assume it’s a boyfriend). I’m not kidding, these are brilliant.
Korg DS-10 + bendy straw
I’m so going to turn my DS into a vocoder using the Korg DS-10 + bendy straw as soon as I get home so I can torture mrs grom with my unique interpretation of ”’Cher””s ‘Believe’.
Type Trumps
I love the idea of Type Trumps but it would have made a far better online game (although harder to make money out of it!)

Am I the only one who saw these 6 vertigo-inducing viewing platforms and thought of ”’Tony Hawk”’?

Star Trek Steampunk
Some nice Star Trek Steampunk images here.
Real Life Mario Kart
What if Mario was real and what if he drove his kart around France? It would probably look something like Real Life Mario Kart.
thanks Paul
DNA database verdict
Excellent! The two men who had their DNA added to the DNA database even after being acquitted of crimes have won the right to be removed from the DNA database. This has wide implications – their defence was that if you are going to store the DNA of innocent people then you should be required to store everybody’s, not just the select few that you can get during an investigation. A sound verdict in my mind.
The Logitech Mice That Weren’t
I did laugh at the Logitech Mice That Weren’t – I’ve had mice that featured many of the selling points that they discarded (the fan, the glowing logo, the joystick) and most of these features were actually quite useful (but not worth paying more for though).
Cummingtonite?
Cummingtonite? It could be worse.
Pirates of the Amazon
I know it’s very naughty but I had to giggle when I saw the Pirates of the Amazon Firefox Add-on which adds links to ”’The Pirate Bay”’ on any Amazon pages that you visit.
The Specials on tour
Band revivals are not a favourite thing of mine but I’ve always said I’d make an exception for The Specials and they’ve just announced a tour. Not playing in Leeds so I’ll have to try to get to Manchester or Sheffield however, £35 a ticket!!!!
Tickets go on sale next Thursday.

Must Wash Hands
Another entrant to our occasional series of extraordinarily single minded blogs is the Must Wash Hands blog – a whole blog dedicated to the signage displayed above washbasins in employee toilets.
allRGB all the time
Ever wondered if you could make a picture using every colour in the ”’RGB”’ palette once only? No, me either but you can do as these examples at allRGB show – it’s actually a tricky problem once you exclude the traditional gradient used in Photoshop type programs and it’s an interesting programming problem – simple to program but hard to achieve a good result.
Simpsons do Apple
Ha-ha – assuming its not been taken down yet.
*Edit*It has but it’s still here for the time being
