We Are The Sexy People
A blog full of the Sexy People (in their minds maybe).
PMSL at PMSBuddy
In these politically correct times, it’s good to know that some people can still get away with programs like the PMSBuddy reminder service which alerts men when to tread carefully around their female partners.
Perfect Balance
Try as I might to achieve a state of utter zen whilst playing Perfect Balance, it’s just too frustrating. Fun though.
Frozen Frogs
Humans have been attempting to crack ”’cryonics”’ for a long time but apparently these Frozen Frogs do it every year by contracting their internal organs, surrounding them with blood sugar and filling the space with absorbed water which they use to freeze them solid.
I would like to welcome our new amphibian overlords.
Amanda Palmer – Leeds United (again)
I know I keep banging on about her but I find something wonderfully incongruous about seeing a combination of beautiful people, ”’Busby Berkeley”’ dancing, drag queens and my local football team hooligans in the excellent video for Amanda Palmer’s Leeds United – this was easily in my top 5 songs of last year and it’s great to see a video to match.
An Ax to Grind
Probably of no interest to anyone but me but I do love the booklet An Ax to Grind: A Practical Ax Manual published by the US Dept of Agriculture (also available in pdf). It’s a superb resource for anyone who uses axes. I’m not sure if there is a special name for an axe geek but if there is, consider me one – I’ve got 3 axes at the moment and use them at least twice a week for cutting down trees and chopping logs, I much prefer them to chainsaws mostly as I was taught how to use them properly when I was a teenage lumberjack (& yes, I’ve heard all the jokes already).
PWN! YouTube
There have been youtube downloaders around since it’s inception but none have been as simple as PWN! YouTube. If you want to grab a youtube video in FLV or high quality MP4 (if available) format then simply add the letters pwn inbetween the ‘www.’ and the ‘youtube.com…..’ to give ‘www.pwnyoutube.com/…’ and you can grab the files. It’s intended for ”’fair use”’ only and I’ll be interested to see how long it stays up for so use it while you can.
Pushpin Mario
The guys behind the Pushpin Mario picture must have waaaaaayyy too much free time.
Superuseless Superpowers
I love this blog! superuseless Superpowers is just that, a series of posts around utterly useless superpowers such as 99% Opacity aka the Slightly Invisible Man and 13th Bullet Bulletproof Guy who has ‘Eventual Kevlar Skin’.
Andy Sheppard’s Saxophone Massive
FUSELEEDS is a very well-regarded, innovative annual music festival. This year they’re curating ”’Andy Sheppard””s Saxophone Massive – a composition by Andy, one of the world’s best jazz musicians, which requires about 200 saxophones to take part. If you’re a budding Lisa Simpson and want to join in then drop me a mail and I’ll send you an application form.
Also of note at this year’s FUSE is ”’David Gedge”’ playing many of his hits(& I presume ”’The Wedding Present””s too) rearranged with the BBC Big Band which should be very interesting.

ZOMBIE ZOMBIE – It’s a GI Thing
Enjoy this rather brilliant fan-made stop motion video for a tune by French electro duo Zombie Zombie. Featuring G.I. Joe dolls and based on John Carpenter’s film and score of The Thing, it’s tres magnifique.
cheers Kim
1981 primitive Internet report
Reading the newspapers from theprimitive Internet – I like the no-ads bits, shame that didn’t stay.
Google and Friends Release Net Neutrality Measuring Tools
“Google and a group of partners have released a set of tools designed to help broadband customers and researchers measure performance of Internet connections. The set of tools, at MeasurementLab.net, includes a network diagnostic tool, a network path diagnostic tool and a tool to measure whether the user’s broadband provider is slowing BitTorrent peer-to-peer (P-to-P) traffic. Coming soon to the M-Lab applications is a tool to determine whether a broadband provider is giving some traffic a lower priority than other traffic, and a tool to determine whether a provider is degrading certain users or applications. ‘Transparency is our goal,’ said Vint Cerf, chief Internet evangelist at Google and a co-developer of TCP/IP. ‘Our intent is to make more [information] visible for all who are interested in the way the network is functioning at all layers.’”

The Ubiquitousity of Vocoders
Every single new ‘pop’, rap or soul track seems to have swamped in auto-tune vocoders disguising how bad at singing the artists actually are. I feel T-pain’s pain as he tries to switch off his self-aware ”’vocoder”’.
Neil Gaiman Round-up
Big congratulations to ”’Neil Gaiman”’ on winning the Newbury Medal, a major award for children’s literature for The Graveyard Book – it’s a damn fine book and an unusual choice for such a major award. What with ”’Cory Doctorow””s Little Brother and ”’Charlie Higson””s Young Bond series, a lot of my recent favourite books have been classed as ‘young fiction’. Speaking of Neil, the trailer for ”’Coraline”’ is up in HD on youtube and looks stunning. He also announced in this interview that ”’Neil Jordan”’ has signed up to film The Graveyard Book.
Finally, if you’re in Dublin on the 16/17th February then you can go along and see two of my favourite people, Neil and ”’Amanda Palmer”’.
The Damned United
The trailer for The Damned United is out. I’ve a personal interest in this as, not only do I live in Leeds and know most of the filming locations but they almost used my house as Brian Clough’s house in the movie but in the end apparently it just wasn’t cheesy 70′s enough as we’d already started to do it up after moving in when they contacted mrs grom.
I’m not a football fan but ”’The Damned United”’ is still a very good book and the screenplay and cast bode well for this to be a big hit at the cinema too.
Aw Mum!
Guess this little one isn’t mummy’s favourite today.
You Can Shave The Baby
WTF?! No, seriously, WTF?
Twitterfall
Twitterfall is rather hypnotic.
Watchmen Buzz starts in Earnest
The viral buzz around the Watchmen movie has started and if it’s all as good as this then they might have actually cracked filming this unfilmable movie.
The Ondes Martenot
The ”’Ondes Martenot”’ was a very early electronic musical instrument similar-ish to a ”’theremin”’. By very early I mean 1920′s. Watch an absolute master Jean Laurendeau explain and play it in the video. Beautiful.
Space Shuttle Cockpit
I was quite fascinated by this image of the Space Shuttle Cockpit.
Genius Protest Group of the Day
AS much as I hate Facebook (which is just slightly more then MySpace), I was tickled by the ‘cc all your emails to Jacqui Smith’ protest. On a day to be announced in the near future they’re asking everyone in the group to forward all mails they send and receive for that day to Jacqui. More background here.
A Time of Firsts
It’s been a while since I really did spit coffee over my monitor but this b3ta image did it again. Genius.
Bizarre Obama Doll
check out this very odd Obama doll – keep scrolling down and you’ll see what I mean!
Defining Pwned
Some people are just too dumb to be allowed to live, but Karma usually gets them.
We Do It For The Honey
I know this isn’t the sexiest topic but I’m very, very happy that the UK government have agreed to stump up £4.3m for bee health research. They previously only gave £200k over 5 yrs to pay for a study into the nation’s bees which are a hugely vital part of the ecosystem, not just for honey but more importantly for pollination.
The Obamas like to do WHAT?!
The Obamas like to do WHAT?!
Speechless.
It’s Getting Bigger All the Time
Yay! After quite a break, there’s a new Grow Game – this one is Grow Tower. Enjoy.
