The Tea Stain Cup
I love the Stain Tea Cup which actually looks better the more you use it as the design is slowly revealed over time. The design is by Bethan Wood and you can contact her directly for ordering info.
No Pants 2k9
Welcome to the 8th annual No Pants subway ride from the ever-awesome Improv Everywhere, this year featuring 1,200 bottomless folk. Some of the faces of the by-standers are as hilarious as usual especially one guy who looks deeply threatened by people with no trousers on. Sorry UK readers, ‘no pants’ is the US name and they quite clearly are all wearing underpants so don’t get too excited.
Where the Hell is my Sandvich?
You all know we love Where the Hell is Matt videos and most of you know I love ”’Team Fortress 2”’ so I was rather chuffed to see the Where the Hell is Matt? – Team Fortress 2 Style video where our friends the Heavy, the Doctor and the Spy from TF2 visit many other gaming realms and, you know, dance.
When You Shouldn’t Hyphenate Your Names
When NOT to hyphenate your name. Some old, some new ones.
Illustrator!
If you read yesterday that I’d decided to start learning how to use Illustrator finally then here’s what you can do in a couple of hours. Firstly, based on the vector ninja tutorial I blogged yesterday I did this first attempt and then I went a little further today with this.
Hope you like – I’m rather proud of these!
Idapting the Charger
Most of us now have an abundance of devices that need constant charging and I’ve tried many solutions to the cable spaghetti that ensues with little success so far. The Idapt is the latest hopeful in this market for all-in-one chargers and on first glance it looks pretty good. The price is reasonable, not cheap but not stupidly expensive and it does seem to cover most of my devices. Most importantly it looks pretty good and is modular, so if it doesn’t support your device then you will probably be able to get a new ‘tip’ to fit. It comes in 2 or 3 port versions for around £35 and about £5 for extra charging tips. I’m very tempted but I’d like to have a play with one to test it first – anyone else used one and care to comment?
Olly Moss
We’ve featured some of Olly Moss‘ designs on here before without knowing it was all the work on the same guy. I’m wearing his Now Panic and Freak Out t-shirt as I type this and his Spoiler, AV and Food Chain tees are all instant classics. I’m quite stunned by the quality and variety of his work – especially from a 21yr old (currently unemployed – someone rectify that this instant!). Check out his site and his gorgeous re-imaginings of classic movie posters. I can only be thankful that he doesn’t have a shop on his site or I’d had spent more money than I can afford on a set of those film posters.
Street Fighter II Youtube Edition
This is impressive. Just using Youtube, PatrickBoivin has come up with a method of playing Street Fighter II. You click a hotspot at certain times to make a move and the video skips to a predetermined time. Very clever.
French Prints
These beautiful French Prints from 1910 depict what they expected life to be like in the year 2000. I like the Heating with Radium and At School ones and the Correspondence Cinema is very much like web cams.
RazorShite
Band spoofs aren’t usually that funny especially when the targets are so obvious but Jonni Music’s Preoccupied by the War take on Razorlight is spot on – Borrell’s an obnoxious tw@t indeed.
80 Best-Of Adobe Illustrator Tutorials
I’m posting this to try to kick myself into learning to love Illustrator – for years I’ve used and loved Photoshop but I have never ‘got’ vector graphics programs – bezier curves just don’t seem to be something I can get my head round. So, much as how I learnt to use photshop many years ago, I’m going to force myself to wade through some of these 80 Best-Of Adobe Illustrator Tutorials and see if I can get it. Prime candidate number one looks like the vector ninjas tut.
Ikea Napkin Ring Wi-Fi Hack
Lots of people know the Pringles Cantenna Wifi booster hack but here’s a similar one based on an Ikea napkin ring which is much better looking.
World’s Smallest Postal Service
I think the World’s Smallest Postal Service is such a cute idea! Here’s one happy recipient. Perfect if you’re looking for that extra special birthday card or romantic letter.
New Darwin Entry
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new entrant for the ”’Darwin Awards”’ with this teenage parkour attempt.
Photoshopped billboards
Nice bit of stick up deviancy going on in Berlin where Epoxy, Mr Talion, Baveux & Kone have pasted images of Photoshop windows exposing the amount of hard work that goes into making ‘artists’ such as Britney look good on a metro billboard.
Grinding defined
As well as two straight boys demonstrating the Intricacies of Grind Dancing to a school principal, they also give a good demonstration of ”’chutzpah”’. Hilarious stuff.
Star Wars: Retold (by someone who hasn’t seen it)
Excellent retelling of Star Wars by someone who hasn’t seen it.
Little Boots
Loads of people are talking about little boots at the moment (quite rightly so). If you need to know why you should be watching her, check out her vids on Youtube – her cover of Ready For The Floor by ”’Hot chip”’ which demonstrates her skills and the awesomeness of Yamaha’s ”’Tenori-On”’ too. Check also her inaugural Later with Jools performance which we blogged about a few months ago (we’re always early to the party).
FAG Detector
*smirk* I know, I know, I’m very immature.
The MacBook Wheel
I’ve got to get myself one of these!
The Wunder Boner
The Wunder Boner – ‘My wife would like that’!?!
Princess Bride DVD ambigram
As if you should need any excuse to buy a copy (or even another copy) of The Princess Bride – one of the greatest films ever made (and that’s not just my humble opinion, it’s fact!) – the new 20th anniversary Princess Bride DVD features a marvellous cover with a great ”’ambigram”’ on it.
Now you can play Desert Bus!
We’ve posted about the greatest computer gaem of all time quite a few times previously here – it’s called ”’Desert Bus”’ and was made for ”’Penn & Teller””s Smoke and Mirrors on the ”’Sega CD”’. It’s famous for taking 8 hours to play one level in realtime and cannot be paused as you drive a bus from Tuscon to Las Vegas to earn one point – you then have a couple of seconds to choose to drive back to earn another point – the high score is 6 points! The good news is that you don’t have to have a Sega Cd to play the game now, some enterprisinginsane genius has coded it up in less than 4k as an entry to this year’s java 4k competition to produce a game in less than 4k of code. What are you waiting for, climb on and drive the Desert Bus but bring matchsticks for your eyes and you’ll probably need a ”’stadium buddy”’.
Computer Games aid Learning
Who says that computer games don’t teach you anything? a 6yr old boy in America, took his parent’s car keys after he missed the school bus and drove to school (well, some of the way at least). He finally crashed into a utility pole after managing 6 miles and said he learnt how to drive from Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam.
cheers Kim
Abandoned Russian Nuclear Lighthouses
Also from ”’William Gibson””s blog is a link to the kind of thing that you’d expect to see mentioned in one of his books (which you HAVE to read if you haven’t already – along with ”’Neal Stephenson”’ he is one of the world’s greatest living authors IMHO). Apparently in the pre-GPS days, Russia decided that, to guide their ships in the polar circle, they would build lighthouses. The were not manned so they stuck an atomic reactor in each of them and made them effectively autonomous. Not a bad idea until they became Abandoned Nuclear Lighthouses and people started trying to loot them (looting an atomic reactor can’t be a good idea can it?) Extreme non-urban exploration!
Wir Tanzen Im 4-Eck
I saw the video for Stereo Total’s Wir Tanzen Im 4-Eck on William Gibson‘s blog and thought it was hilarious – I had pretty much come up with this theory about the Japanese school girl panties.
Bastard Tetris
Have you ever played Tetris and thought that the computer was deliberately denying you the piece that you need? In proper Tetris it’s not, or at least it shouldn’t be, but in Bastard Tetris that’s precisely what it’s doing! The code is designed to help the computer work out which piece you want and deny it to you. It’s a challenge to make even one row but that makes it all the more satisfying when you do get one.
