Watchmen Movie Merchandise – Fail

Well, it seems that even if they’ve got the movie right, those corporate whores at the film company have still managed to miss the point entirely with the awful Watchmen Movie Merchandise – a blue glowing Dr Manhattan condom? At least I haven’t seen spy cams with the ‘Who Watches the Watchmen’ logo on them yet – perfect for Japanese up-skirt fanatics!

Flisghtsim Flight 1549

Fascinating re-enactment of the Hudson River aircrash of Flight 1549 with the flight recorder audio done on a flight simulator. you can see how amazing the pilot’s responses were in the timeframe he had and how utterly calm he was.

The Neo Cube

I shall be placing my order for a NeoCube tomorrow – see how cool it is here. There do seem to be a few places to buy them so I’ll check out where I can get the best deal. I wonder what size rail gun you could make with these?

Music That Makes You Dumb

Interesting graph showing US SAT scores against types of music favoured by people. Musicthatmakesyoudumb reckons thickos listen to jazz and brainboxes listen to Beethoven (and Ben Folds?!).

Hidden Cameras in Digiboxes – Hoax

Please don’t send me any more links to the video showing someone opening a digital set-top tv box and finding a camera and microphone inside – it’s clearly a hoax and even the guy who made the video has confirmed he faked it (unless he was ‘made’ to say that!).

Half Map Half Biscuit

Some rather insane soul with too much time on their hands has created a Google map of all (?) the locations mentioned in Half Man Half Biscuit songs. Possibly a good resource of places not to visit (although who can resist Lord Hereford’s Knob? I know I can’t!). There’s even an RSS feed.

Social Engineering Hacking

Ask anyone involved in computer security what the weakest point is and you should always get the same answer – ‘people’. Systems are only ever as strong as the weakest point and every system needs human intervention which is where Social Engineering comes in. It’s amazing what you can do with a box of cookies and a Cisco t-shirt.

Emiliana Torrini – Jungle Drum

Coming on like Bjork singing a rockabilly track, Emiliana Torrini‘s Jungle Drum is a track that I guess you won’t think much of on first listen – give it 2 or 3 listens and it won’t leave your head for a long time – a stealth earworm.
(It’s also been pointed out by two people so far that this sounds like the kind of track Tarantino would put on a soundtrack)

Scientific Attempt To Create Most Annoying Song Ever

Not sure if this is a repost, but it’s new to me… Some fellas back in the 90s set upon the task of researching what would make the most unwanted music, in terms of both instrumental arrangement and lyrical content. After much research they composed this epic piece of music. Everything is in here – bagpipes, oompah, tuneless kids, Christmas novelty, Walmart references, rapping opera singers… is it wrong that I actually quite like it?

And for the juxtaposition, here is the most wanted music created after a similar research process. Is it wrong that this type of music makes me want to leap into a grave purely so I can turn in it?

Flashing Blade/On The Waterfornt

Youth muddles the brain – I just went looking for The Flashing Blade thinking the English dubbed version had always been a spoof but it turns out that it was first shown on BBC as a straight serious dub of the original French series in the 60′s and 70′s but was later re-re-dubbed for the Saturday morning show On The Waterfront as the spoof version I so fondly remember.
Side note number one – apparently it was scripted by Russell T Davies.
Side note number two – why oh why aren’t there any good saturday morning children’s shows any more? The old mix of cartoons, music and silliness just doesn’t seem to exist any more, wither Banana Splits et al? I suspect that the sheer amount of channels available made them redundant.

Malaysia Landslide Footage

This is quite amazing footage of a Malaysian tin mine collapsing. It’s not great quality but you don’t get to see something like this happen often (hopefully never since it was caused by over-mining). I just wish the footage carried on for a few more seconds so you could see the sea creating a new lake.

Escape From City 17

I’m astounded by the quality of Escape From City 17. This is part one of a series of ‘fan movies’ (you’ll laugh at the use of the word ‘fan’ when you see the movie!) by the Purchase Brothers, an independent film-making duo. Based of ”’Half Life 2”’ and using a budget of only $500 (surely the bullets cost more than that?), it mixes in-game sound with cgi and real life action and looks astounding. I’d watch this in the cinema and buy the dvd if they make a full length movie of even half this quality!

Slavery & disco; why did no-one think of it before?

Visitors will be able to see the route their ancestors walked, shackled together as they were whipped toward the “point of no-return”. They can then retire to their five-star hotel to drink cocktails by the pool.
Visitors will be able to pay their respects at the site of a mass grave for those who died before boarding ships across the Atlantic Ocean. And then travel a few yards in a buggy to play a round of golf.
They can visit a replica slave ship to see the conditions Africans suffered, before visiting the world’s only museum dedicated to the memory of the Jackson Five.
