FluffyLogic Beta

FluffyLogic Beta is a laboratory site for new game ideas. It will be used it to test new game designs and concepts. It’s a place where you can check out what new ideas are being worked on, playtest games and give feedback to help shape the next generation of FluffyLogic titles.
Two By Two is a simple flash game. Use your mouse to throw a net, rescuing the animals in pairs before the oncoming storm causes a flood.
cheers Dan

Cool Micro Video Camera

One of the guys at work just showed me this Mini DV MD80 Micro Video Camera and I’m gobsmacked. It’s tiny, good quality (both build and image) and so simple to use – just stick a micro-sd card in and press one of the buttons (there are only 3) and because it’s all solid state, there are no moving parts to get damaged. Clip it to your bike helmet, stick it in a room and turn on the sound activation to record intruders or stick it in your pocket when you go to your next protest to record the friendly policemen for youtube. Go to ebay and search for mini dv md80 and you’ll find them from Hong Kong for about £50 (they seem to be listed at over £200 from shops). I’m very, very impressed.

Shadow Physics Game

Here’s a demo of a new idea in gameplay based around Shadow Physics. It’s a very raw early-days demo but the idea and ingenuity looks fantastic – it’s a long way from completion but you can see how cool it will be.

LED Sundial Clock

Last year the Ironic Sans site posted an idea about a ‘bulbdial clock – like a sundial but reliant on LEDs instead of the sun. The geniuses (genii?) over at Evil Mad Scientist have made a prototype (looks better in the dark). The beauty of it coming out of the Evil Mad Labs is that they always give instructions, help advice or sell kits based on opensource so you can do it yourself.

Cheerleaders and Jello

Shot for an exhibition in France, this showreel demonstrates what happens when you film High Definition quality at 100frames per second (or 2500fps for the jelly). Stunning, especially the lighting and the blue smoke in the first clip and the pan/tilt effect on the pink flag at about 25seconds in.

Windows XP Mode for Windows 7

It’s been a long time since I’ve said this but Microsoft have had an idea made of win! Windows XP Mode for Windows 7. I already quite like Windows 7 but have no need for it at the moment – I’m happy mixing Windows XP and Ubuntu on my various machines but I’ve trialled Windows 7 and was quite impressed and this little feature might just helpt to bridge the gap created by the awful Vista – let’s hope.

If you don’t already own it then buy the Orange Box this weekend. For a mere $10 or £5.66 you get Half Life 2, Portal and my favourite Team Fortress 2 – in total 6 of the best pc games out there for ten buck or a fiver. I think the offer is only for this weekend so hurry up!

Gorillaz Go Bananaz

The ”’Gorillaz”’ Go Bananaz in this great documentary tracing Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s journey from two men entering middle age to conquerors of pop, dance, hip hop, reggae and Chinese opera. It’s an hour and a half long and free to watch online at the moment I think it’ll be taken down once the dvd is released in June but not sure so watch it now!.

Awesome Tapes from Africa

The blog Awesome Tapes from Africa is not a misnomer – there really are some great tracks on here covering a huge variety of musical styles from funk to hip hop to more traditional music and instrumentation. A must listen. Don’t forget to make your listening experience as simple as possible, use the playtagger browser button to play the mp3s directly from the page.

Enlist in the Book Army

I was sold on the idea of Book Army when I saw it described as like a Last.fm for books. It’s still in beta but the idea is that you tag books you’ve read, rate them and write a review (if you feel so inclined). The site will then start recommending other books you should like. I’ve found a few bugs so far and the site’s just gone down for maintenance but I have high hopes that, if they listen to feedback, find a better way of bulk importing your past reads (is there a secure way of getting your Amazon history output?) and get the right tech team behind them, it should be a winner (and make someone a tidy profit when they sell it to one of the major players).

Extreme Bullet Time

Just exactly how awe-inspiring is the Carousel advert for Philips’ new 21:9 ratio tvs? One two minute long tracking shot (actually coincidentally 2:19 to be precise) of frozen bullet time of a (very Dark Knight) Cops vs Clowns gun battle. Even better it loops perfectly – you can see the whole thing and some behind the scenes bits here.

Renault F1 Crash Dubai Autodrome

So, you’re Sheik Mohammad Bin Sulayem and your greatest wish is to drive a Formula 1 car. When the Team Renault F1 Roadshow comes to your country, the United Arab Emirates, you finally get that chance. Participating in a drag-style shootout against a Ford GT, you are ready to show everybody what you can do with a Formula 1 car.
When the lights go green, you put the pedal to the metal, only to crash the car into the pitwall 5 seconds later. The bill for the heavily damaged car? No more than $2,600,000.

Wolf Loves Pork

I daren’t guess how long the stop motion movie wolf and pig took to make. Photos of the action were taken, printed then laid out in Takeuchi Taijin’s room and rephotographed. This is a must-see.
