The Morgan Freeman Chain of Command
I hope ”’Morgan Freeman”’ puts a copy of his chain of command up in his bathroom.
Coldplay End of Decade Sale
I’m not a fan but full marks anyway to ”’Coldplay”’ for their End of Decade eBay auction. They’re auctioning off a huge stack of kit for charity – gold discs, instruments, stage sets, clothes, amps, mics etc. Very nice idea.
The whole Rage against the machine thing
I’d just like to say a big thanks to Jon Morter who started this anti xfactor xmas number 1 campaign on Facebook for nudging me into listening to Rage Against the Machine’s incredible 1992 debut album again. It’s hard for a collection of songs to escape the gravity of a track as iconic as ‘Killing in the name’, but 17 years on the whole RATM LP still sounds stunningly good and is without a doubt a landmark album of the 90′s. So, if you loved this LP back in the day, you might just love it even more now. Buy the whole album, not just ‘the’ track.
YouTube Piano Lessons
I’ve not checked these out yet, they’re more of a reminder to me to watch later and see if theuy’re any good but I like the idea of taking YouTube Piano lessons.
Anonymous Bestman Tweet
Never have a geek as a best man – Anon Bestman on Twitter has rigged up a pressure switch on his newly-married friends bed so that it automagically tweets whenever the young lovers make the beast with two backs.
My (Star Wars) Adidas
There have been many sneak peek close-ups of the much anticipated Adidas Star Wars trainers/sneakers but here’s the first full shots of them. Some are butt-ugly, some actually quite decent (mock me if you want but I quite like the look of the orange Skywalkers).
Obey The Game
You must Obey The Game.
Jeremy Clarkson on Mandelson
Clarkson at full steam before the Times’s sub editor transformed his article on how dreadful life in the UK is into something approaching printable.
PDF Database
The PDF Database might be a bit dull but it’s still very useful
thanks ted
Worm Tea
I like unusual teas and coffees – I’ve had my Monkey Picked Tea (which isn’t really picked by monkeys) and my Civet Coffee (made from coffee beans that have been pooed out by weasels) but I’ve never come across Worm Tea before! I’m not sure I actually want to try it since it’s not really tea at all but apparently the faeces of two moth larvae, one of which eats the leaves of this plant and the other eats a form of crabapple. Even I’ll pass on this one I think.
Google Goggles
I’d say that Google Goggles is the first killer app for the ”’android phone”’. It’s seriously cool – just point your phone camera at anything – book, landmark, building etc and it will do a google search for info on it.
How to make your own Super Car
Don’t have the money for a large penis super car? If you can get your hands on a job lot of expanding foam and a scrap car then why not follow this Lithuanians example and build your won? Bonus points for the coat he’s wearing in the first photo of him.
Ten Thousand Cents
Ten Thousand Cents is an ‘art’piece where people were paid one cent to draw a section of of a one hundred dollar bill that had been divided into 10,000 pieces. Quite cool really despite the use of phrases such as ‘crowd-sourcing’ and ‘virtual economies’.
Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra (MoPhO)
On Thursday, December 3rd, a small group of students and faculty performed as the Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra (MoPhO). Wearing gloves that act as speakers and only wielding iPhones as instruments, the orchestra put on a show to a packed room. Part 1, Part 2
Emerald cockroach wasp – Groo!
Ewww! The details of the reproductive cycle of the Emerald cockroach wasp are morbidly fascinating. Thank $deity that there’s no human equivalent.
Rammstein VS Cookie Monster
Short, silly and very funny – Rammstein VS Cookie Monster.
TestTube
If you’ve ever what you can expect to see included in the future on Youtube then check in regularly with TestTube, it’s their version of GoogleLabs. TestTube is where I first heard of their new ‘Feather‘ feature to allow YouTube to work on even the most basic computer.
Ghost Images
I think we might have posted these before but they’re definitely worth posting again even if we have. Chameleon Man is like Where’s Wally/Waldo but for real.
Keith Vaz ‘as it large
Keith Vaz is taking 12 of his Parliamentary mates clubbing in London so he can witness ‘everything’ in action, but insists it’s not a ‘Christmas party’. A police source felt they might be in for a bit of a shock as things have moved on a bit since the 70′s, but hopefully they’ll do it properly and rather than go home at 3am, hunt out a decent afterparty (preferably under a railway arch) with a bunch of moody gangsters bugging out to grimy dubstep.
Must Be Santa
Now, I’m not a Bob Dylan fan – I think he’s a genius songwriter but should be banned from actually performing his own songs. Just my opinion which I’m now gonna blow by posting Must Be Santa from his new Christmas album. I’ll skip straight past the bizarreness of a Robert Zimmerman Christmas album and just say that this song is like he’s channelling ”’The Pogues”’ – great song, great vibe, great video too.
Google Public DNS
I’m not going to go into what DNS is or what it’s used for but if you already know then you’ll like to know that Google have launched Google Public DNS today with the express aim of being the fastest, most reliable public DNS servers on the web. They’ve even made sure they’re easily memorable – 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Oh crap my parents just joined Facebook
18 – 24′s have been abandoning Facebook in droves for 3 straight months now, and when you see how teachers and parents interact with kids on the network it’s really not so surprising.
Dear Richard
Superb complaint letter to Richard Branson bemoaning the terrible quality of food on a Virgin Mumbai to Heathrow flight.
Someone’s Going Straight to Heck
One major difference between British humour and American humor is subtlety as evidenced by ”’Louis CK””s Catholic Church skit. It’s utterly NSFW and lacking in any subtlety whatsoever but it still made me laugh since the offensiveness is so completely over the top. If you’re catholic or easily offended you might want to skip this one
Oh, and he’s so going straight to heck for this one!
The rotating kitchen
The act of turning your kitchen ‘upside down’ whilst looking for the can opener is brought to life in this slow destruction installation.
Don’t tag me in this photo
Tshirt available here
Re-enactors
Fantastic photo set of actors recreating their famous scenes in their normal clothes.
American Psycho billboard
This billboard advertising the American Psycho film is way to geeky for anyone who hasn’t read the book, but it’s good.
Continuity
Continuity is a cool web game which mixes sliding block puzzles with a platformer. Nice idea well executed.
Wear your old band tshirt to work day 2009
Don’t forget you’ve only got 1 day left to get your old band tshirts ready for work on Friday.
