Theremin Hero

Rock Band sucks in one major way – no ”’theremin”’. This dude has fixed that and made it even geekier, if such a thing was possible, bu combining ”’Rock Band”’, with a theremin and Still Alive aka the Portal Song.
cheers Serenity

Mega Shark Infographic

I was happily surprised to see the awesome movie ”’Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus”’ featuring Debbie Deborah Gibson was on tv in the UK over Christmas so soon after it’s theatrical release. If you haven’t seen it then check out some of the highlights. Someone with far too much time on their hands has worked out the logistics behind the jumping of the shark (that must have been an in-joke surely ?).

Top Google Search Result for a Single Character

Admit it, it would be pretty cool (albeit very, very geeky) to be the Top Google Search Result for a single character – there must be an obscure unicode character that’s do-able.

Four Lions

Not only is there a ”’Banksy”’ movie coming out soon, ”’Chris Morris”” ”’Four Lions”’ is due out soon. Here’s an clip – it’s a ‘jihadist comedy’ and as you can see from the clip, it’s bound to be a) very funny indeed and b) absolutely guaranteed to get Daily FMail readers in a froth about it. Can’t wait.

Avatar Not Quite There

Despite the publicity to the contrary, Avatar is not the most popular movie ever…yet. It is the highest grossing but is only the 26th biggest movie based on bums-on-seats – just because the ticket price is higher doesn’t make it more popular.

Latin Shattoos

I love angery professors, they just make me laugh! I sympathise hugely with the person behind Tales of a Wayward Classicist – you can see what they have to put up with in this blog post about bad Latin translations in tattoos.

Who’s That Guy?

You’re sitting there watching your favourite movie and ‘that guy’ appears in a supporting role but for the life of you, you just cannot remember his name or what movies he’s been in. Fret ye not, he’s bound to be on this page of those guys.

Exit Through The Gift Shop

If you haven’t heard yet, ”’Banksy””s got a film coming out. It features ”’Rhys Ifans”’ and music by ”’Portishead””s Geoff Barrow. Here’s the first look at Exit Through The Gift Shop and it looks very funny indeed. Official Site.

YouTube Disco

Youtube have acknowledged that many people use the site as a jukebox for listening to music and they’ve just released a Music Discovery Project aka ‘Disco’. I just gave it a quick test using some pretty obscure bands and it came up trumps with good, ready-made playlists of videos – this is really rather cool indeed.

Drumming with NiN

Josh Freese has been playing with Nine Inch Nails recently and at the end of last year he decided to stick a few small video cameras onto his kit whilst on tour. You can see his footage of drumming with NiN and get a unique perspective of the live experience. Lovely audio straight from teh desk too.

Airbrushed for change

I drove past a poster the other day and almost crashed from staring at the oddness I saw – it was one of the new Conservative party posters featuring David Cameron and what astounded me was how blatantly it had been airbrushed – it was just unnatural. I wasn’t the only one to notice bya long way – a quick google will turn up lots of newspaper articles about this airbrushing but it did lead me to Airbrushed for change – MyDavidCameron.com. Some very funny stuff.

First-Person Tetris

I wanted to post First-Person Tetris a few days ago but it became quite a hit and the site was as flakey as a snowman’s dandruff. It looks like the site is more stable now so enjoy this great take on a classic game. This time, you don’t rotate the pieces, you rotate the entire board.

Ubuntu Funnel

I predicted a few years ago that something you’d see more of is aggregation of aggregators. I think I was too far ahead of the curve since it’s only recently started to become more commonplace. I have a pile of Linux/Ubuntu RSS feeds in my reader but I’ve found that Ubuntu Funnel is aggregating many of these together so I’ve removed a lot of them and replaced them with the feed from here instead. If anyone knows of other aggregators like this (on any topic) then feel free to post them in the comments.

OK Go Again

You should remember ”’OK Go”’ from their infamous one-shot treadmill video. Their new video This Too Shall Pass does the same one-shot trick just as well. As usual, the song isn’t quite my cup of tea but full marks for the video.

Code Fail Script

Everycoder (so that doesn’t include me!) has that moment when you compile/run/commit/merge your code and watch it fail. This sick individual has written a little python script that takes a webcam image at the moment when it fails – an amusing concept – can’t wait to see galleries of geeks slapping foreheads.
