36 goals from 36 football games
To sort of celebrate the launch of Fifa 11 here’s a compilation of historic videogame goals.
Best Red Bull Rampage crashes
Ouch! ouch! ouch! This video is guaranteed to make any cyclist cringe
Holy fibreglass replica Batmobiles Batman!
Yep, if you’ve got a spare £100k you too can now drive an officially licensed, road-legal Batmobile with propane flame thrower, Detect-a-scope and batbeam.
Site blaster
Use this very clever little Javascript bookmarklet open an Asteroids style game on your favourite (or least favourite) website and blow the page to bits. Such fun!
The Japanese Tradition
We posted this humourous video about Sushi a couple of years ago but Kim has mailed letting me know that there are many more videos of ‘Japanese Tradition’ up now. Here’s the one about Chopsticks. I love the way they start very straight and gradually build up the outlandishness until they’re quite ridiculous at the end.
Most Excellent!
I have a dirty little secret that it’s probably time for me to share – I love Bill and Ted. I’m a huge fan of Keanu and Alex Winter. there I’ve said it. I hope you don’t think any less of me now but even if you do, I don’t care. I am one of the few people on this planet who think Keanu is actually an amazing actor (he might only have one character but he does it so well!) and an amazing person and Alex Winter is an extremely talented director (if you don’t like Freaked then you’re no friend of mine). Imagine how happy, and disturbed, I am to hear that Bill & Ted 3 has been confirmed. Don’t fcuk it up lads.
Apple Peel
Here’s a game-changer – Fresh from China comes the Apple Peel 520 case for your iPod. Nothing special so far until you find out that the case contains a circuit board into which you can put a sim card and turn your iPod into an fully functioning iPhone. Expect Apple to already be attempting to outlaw them. They are on sale in the US for $60 already.
EBbra — The Emergency Bra
It must have seemed like a very sensible solution to an important problem . To someone. Somewhere. The EBbra is an ‘emergency’ bra which can separate and convert into two facemasks (I did call them gas masks but let’s face it, judging by the image accompanying this article, they’re not going to protect you from noxious fumes. Luckily the inventor does seem to have graciously accepted her ig-Nobel award.
Fakebook
I don’t Facebook. Mostly because it’s not as funny as it should be
Little Dot
Dot is probably the world’s most miniature stop motion animation created by Aardman animations as a promotion for the Nokia N8 phone. It’s rather beautiful.
12 footballers who look like famous women
I know I’m not supposed to mention the ‘F’ word here, but the likeness of Blanche from Coronation Street to Arsene Wenger did make me chuckle! Not that I’m bitter about the trashing Spurs got on Tuesday night from Arsenal, although Harry may not find this pic snapped after the game so amusing!
Installing iTunes 10 Without Bloatware
Now that my new work phone has arrived I have discovered something that won’t surprise anyone in teh world except me – apparently you need itunes installed to even get the f**king iphone working! I know you need it for apps and stuff but just to get the phone to make a call?!?! However, I have found the unofficial guide to installing iTunes 10 without bloatware so I don’t have to poison my system with Quicktime or any other sh1te I don’t need. Wonder if I can run it on linux?
Violin Cases
I’d never seen an actual mobster Tommy Gun in a violin case before – I thought they were a myth but it really is a thing of beauty. I love that it comes with it’s own toolkit.
White Knuckles
The insane work ethic and inventiveness of OK GO continues with aplomb with their latest one-shot video for the song White Knuckles. Much like Pomplamoose, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of the music but I still can’t get enough of the creativity of these people, neither of whom would have been able to do what they do without the internet.
What it Feels Like to be Drunk
I haven’t seen this sketch for ages and I think I’m posted it a few years ago but just saw it again and loved it as much as when I first saw it. Magnificent use of a tilted room.
Underground Leeds
I’ve been investigating doing a subterranean trek through Leeds for ages and, whilst I’m still a long way off from accomplishing this, I did want to give props to Phill Davison who has documented most of the hidden/underground/lost bits of Leeds on numerous sites. He’s active on Secret Leeds and Flickr and his Myspace page hosts some of his fascinating essays on things like forgotten air raid shelters in Leeds and even the ghost train station in Manchester that I visited backs in the late 80′s. He was featured on Culture Vulture. I just want to know when he’s going to put together a full multi-media show or at the very least a large coffe table book of his images and essays.
Here’s his video of the infamous (to many of my friends) ‘Ladybeck’ route that goes follows Meanwood Beck for a few miles right under Leeds and comes out near my work (by the Royal Armouries)
Hipster Hitler Gets a New Typewriter
The latest comic of Hipster Hitler really tickled me. Carloz will certainly appreciate the Heilvetica reference.
More Metal Than You’ll Ever Be
I was just looking up to see what Arc Attack have been up to and found that they’ve perfected the world’s first lightning proof midi electric guitar which they demonstrate with probably the most metal piece of music ever
and it turns out that they’ve just been on America’s Got Talent and got through to the semi-finals.
The Walking Dead
Yay! Here’s the trailer for the zombie graphic novel turned into TV series The Walking Dead. The series looks like a tv show of the <a href=”http://www.l4d.com/blog/”>Left4Dead</a> computer games and stars a plethora of Brit actors. It looks as though it’ll be shown at the same time in the US and the UK with it appearing on FX channel in the UK starting on Halloween (when else!)
Tenori-on Orange
We’ve featured Yamaha’s genius Tenori-on a few times before but I thought I’d highlight the new Yamaha Tenori-on Orange as an example of good marketing. First off, Yamaha give free ones to lots of highly credible musicians and filmed them using them for the first time, then after the buzz had been created and most people thought they could only dream of owning one due to the cost (about £900), they have just released the Orange version which, although about half the cost – a much more reasonable £499-ish, differs only in irrelevant details – no leds on the back, no batteries, plastic body, not aluminium. Time to get excited by it all over again.
Hope You’ve Got Your Sea Legs
I think this is one of the most unfortunate videos I’ve laughed so heartily at. It’s cctv footage from inside a cruise ship in very rough weather.
Watch out for the very painful looking face plant into the centre column (about 48 secs in)
Slight Misdefinition
I found this Microsoft Knowledge base article today which solves something that’s irritated me for years – apparently the fact that
PowerPoint Centimeters Different from Actual Centimeters is a ‘slight misdefinition’. F*ck you Microsoft, f*ck you.
Duke Nukem Forever Just Won’t Die
I mean come on, it’s no coincidence the game’s initials also stand for ‘Did Not Finish’ but it’s being claimed that Duke Nukem Forever, which is already 12 years old, will be out this year.
Headline Writer Quits
Whoever wrote this headline will undoubtedly have quit their job immediately after submitting it safe in the knowledge that they have reached the pinnacle of their career.
Minecrack
If you haven’t heard about Minecraft yet then you’re not one of the cool kids. It’s a stupidly addictive game. I mean that, it’s ridiculously addictive and equally hard to explain, it’s both very, very simple (mine for stuff and craft things together whilst avoiding zombies at night) and remarkably complex. If you buy it now, whilst it’s still in Alpha mode then it’s less than 10 euros to buy. I’ll stick a couple of videos below to try to demonstrate the game, I think the best one is ‘how to survive your first night in Minecraft’
and an example of one person’s nicely sculpted world
The game uses java so works on PC, Mac and Linux and you can join a multiplayer server for collaborative efforts.
