VLC for iPhone
Woo and indeed Yay! Just been playing with VLC for iPhone and it rocks! If you haven’t used VLC before, it works on most platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux etc) and you can throw pretty much any video made with any codec and it will play, even if the files are corrupted. It works beautifully on the iPhone too now, just allow the app to fileshare in iTunes and then drop any video onto it and it will play. No more having to convert movies to watch them on the go.
What to Wear?
I’m officially now a responsible adult – I must be, they’ve called me up for Jury duty. My old NWA t-shirt is long gone but I did find this most excellent t-shirt that I could take with me. Can anyone think of anything else more inappropriate to wear (not that I actually would).
Bernie Ecclestone – old man
Bernie didn’t seem to like his 80th birthday present from Red Bull Racing.
You Suck at Blue
Well, not all of you, mostly your eyes. They really suck at blue. An interesting article on colour perception and compression.

Got money burning a hole in your pocket? Got an incredibly minor ailment? Got no capacity for critical thinking? You need the Handy Alternative Therapy Flowchart by Crispian Jago.
Chain of Fire
And it burns, burns, burns, the Chain of Fire. An addictive and vindictive game.
The Art Gallery Problem
The Art gallery problem is fascinating application of maths in practise and is still highly relevant for things like cctv placement. If that all sounds a little dull then try this simple game based on the problem.
AmbiGrom
Custom Ambigram Design at FlipScript works well for Grom
Gangsta Lorem ippzle dummy text generator

Front 242 – Headhunter. For anyone who used to attend Asylum in Leeds in the early 90′s.
Curta Pepper Grinder Calculators
I’ve been absolutely fascinated by Curta Calculators for many years and would dearly love to get my hands on one. They’re marvels of engineering – no batteries, no electronics, just beautiful metal and gearing work which you can take apart with a modicum of know-how and yet the maths power is amazing. It’s a hand grenade shaped Difference Engine so you can see the appeal to anyone interested in code-breaking, cryptography and the history of computing. They were developed by a Prisoner of War and the Nazis wanted to give final product to the Fuhrer as a gift.
(If anyone ever spots one in a car boot sale please, please buy it and sell it to me – I would love one but until I win the lottery just can’t afford to buy one)
Jim’s Pancakes
Jim makes awesome Pancakes.
My little piece of privacy
It’s not just the ingenious nature of this simple curtain but the excellent 8bit music made this video make me smile the whole way through.
Crap Jazz covers
No, not Kenny G, we’re talking crap jazz album sleeves.

Banksy directs a Simpsons intro drawn by Korean animators about Korean animators making a Simpsons intro. Very meta.
Flabby Physics
Our US correspondent Kim writes to let us know of a perfect Monday morning game – Flabby Physics. why is it perfect for Monday mornings? It only needs one button to play – just hit the space bar. Even in my delicate state I can just about handle that.
Sigur Rós – Homage or Fromage?
Even non-music fans know sigur rós. They’ve been featured on hundreds of adverts. Right? Erm, nope. They’ve actually only ever had their music used on one advert for Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia. Every other request (and there have been hundreds of them) has been turned down and yet their music seems ubiquitous in advertising because, the ad agencies, on being refused permission, seem to continually pay homage or fromage. It’s so bad now that within a day of posting that list of rip-offs people ha sent them another list of insulting tributes. The sheer audacity of these agencies is quite breathtaking.
Federal Bureau of Ignorance
A few days ago, someone posted a thread on Reddit asking if the device he’d found on a friend’s car was an FBI GPS tracker. the answer was a resounding ‘Yes!’. Now it seems the FBI have been in contact to ask for their device back. And these people are responsible for the security of a whole country!
Grey Fluffy Clouds
I’ve been meaning to post this for ages. Everyone must know the classic ‘Little Fluffy Clouds‘ by The Orb but not everyone has heard Simon Munnery (aka Alan Parker – Urban Warrior/The League Against Tedium)’s more realistic version – Grey Clouds.

Cee-Lo on Jools
Loved the rendition of ‘Fcuk You’ on Later with Jools Holland a couple of days ago. Thank god they did do the censored version! (Has there ever been a worse song to censor?)
The Rest Is Propaganda
An old friend of mine Steve Pottinger (aka Spot the Poet) has finally finished working on ghost writing the autobiography of Steve Ignorant, founder and front man for seminal definitors of punk, Crass. You can buy a copy of The Rest Is Propaganda and I recommend you do so, even if you weren’t a Crass fan, Steve’s writing is as excellent as ever and it’s a very interesting story.
Pirelli – Cannot be Unseen
It seems that the tyre manufacturer Pirelli are not aware of a certain famous internet meme.
