Radio Girl – Underground Melody
What a lovely piece of inspired insanity. Like a live version of one of those quasi-psychedelic 1930′s cartoons.
Futurama theorem
Futurama has been responsible for many head scratching moments but I’d not realised that it had also created it’s very own Futurama theorem – a mathematical, philosophical and meta-physical theorem. Great News Everybody!
Bad-Ass
Tony Benn – professional bad-ass mofo.
Retro handheld game archive
A rather impressive library of games from old school Japanese handheld consoles.
Kitten Block
Kitten Block is my new favourite Firefox add-on – it replaces any links from either sh1trag The Daily Mail or the Daily Express with images of kittens or cups of tea – my day is already 50% calmer.
How to Write a Manifesto
How to write a manifesto. Nailed it!
Star Wars PSAs
Some very funny Star Wars PSA posters.
Growing The Beard or Jumping the Shark?
I’ve long been aware of the phenomenon of ‘Jumping the Shark‘ (an event that neatly demonstrates the exact point that a tv show runs out of ideas) but I hadn’t heard of the opposite to it which apparently is known as Growing The Beard – when tv shows get better. Named for Star Trek TNG’s Commander Riker facial follicle follies.
Vader & I
I don’t know if anyone else still bothers with Popbitch anymore but it came up trumps last week with:
“Vader & I – Part II”
which is just about the most perfect mash-up ever. There’s also a not-quite-so-good
Part I
Office Space Desktop
I have a new favorite desktop image – this geeky Office Spacereference.
BBC Radio 4b
I think I’ve found my ultimate work soundtrack. Next time I have a document to write and need to concentrate I’ll stick BBC Radio 4b on. It’s a stream of short clips from Radio 4 played at random. It’s like a calming wash of normality.
The Beano
The Beano comic has been around in the UK since the 1930′s and is still going strong. Luckily they don’t run old favourites (?) such as Musso the Wop any longer.
cheers anistropia
retrofuturs
The Design Junkie in me just adores Cargo Collectives’ retrofuturs collection.
Pegg and Frost Remake Star Wars
On the set of their latest movie, ‘Paul’ Simon Pegg and Nick Frost attempted to remake the entire Star Wars: a New Hope. They only completed one scene. It seems that the the effort of making a single scene so funny left them with nothing to put into Paul.
Arthrobots Steampunk Insects
Tom Hardwidge makes some very cool steampunk insect sculptures.
Happy 30th Birthday ZX81
I was a mere 8 years old when the ZX81 became one of my first objects of desire. My brother and I were lucky enough to have one bought to us and despite assuring our parents that we’d try to use it for educational purposes it was useless for schoolwork. Interesting to note that we both work in IT now though (although neither of use do any form of coding) – I’d like to thank Sir Clive Sinclair for having a significant impact on my life (the C5 sucked though).
Radiohead Fan Speaks Out
I also like Creep and Pable Honey. I hope this guy will let me join his club.
Live From Jodrell Bank
I’m a very happy bunny this morning – mrs grom and I have just bought tickets to see the Flaming Lips play at Jodrell Bank – a huge radio dish in Cheshire in July. Good line up – British Sea Power and OK Go as well and huge projections onto the giant dishes.
Human Planet
I really hope you can see this link across the world as this audio slideshow of the BBC program Human Planet is breathtaking. The program itself is well worth searching out on torrents if you aren’t in the UK – it has everything you expect from the BBC’s Natural History dept but uses a lot of new technology – I can’t get enough of the last few minutes of each episode where they show how they got a lot of the shots.
Urban downhill racing headcam video
The Valparaiso Cerro Abajo race in Chile is a downhill mountain bike race through a hillside village. It’s famous for being one of the most insane urban downhill races in the world, and this year even though the course didn’t go through anyones houses this headcam footage really shows off what an amazing ride it is.
Famous Objects from Classic Movies
I really like the Famous Objects from Classic Movies quiz despite it being far too easy and there’s a problem with the same questions coming up repeatedly but all the same, it looks good and plays well.
