Growing The Beard or Jumping the Shark?

I’ve long been aware of the phenomenon of ‘Jumping the Shark‘ (an event that neatly demonstrates the exact point that a tv show runs out of ideas) but I hadn’t heard of the opposite to it which apparently is known as Growing The Beard – when tv shows get better. Named for Star Trek TNG’s Commander Riker facial follicle follies.
